Saturday 19th May
We grabbed a quick breakfast in the coffee shop on the corner, lemon blueberry muffin for DH and a chocolate croissant for me. The hotel was pretty much in the middle of city so we headed as far east as possible arriving at the new stadium and then walked all along the harbour/front. It was a lovely day and lots of people were out walking their tiny little dogs.
We then walked to the New Oxford pub which i'd found on the internet through the Vancouver Chelsea Supporters Club to watch the Champions League final. I got the last stool in the place as it was already packed with people and we made friends with the couple sat next to us, a Canadian girl and English boy. I tried to order some food before HT in the hope it would arrive during the break but they said they weren't taking any orders for the next 30 mins. After 30 mins I asked again and he said he'd check with the kitchen, the answer was I could order but would take at least an hour so I left it. What a game, 0-0 at half time, 8 mins before FT Bayern Munich scored and the place went silent, then 4 mins later and Chelsea equalised and the pub errupted with noise. Extra time saw Chelsea save a penalty and then the whistle went which meant a penalty shoot out to find winner. Chelsea missed their first penalty but somehow won in the end and the place went mental, streamers were thrown, everyone was hugging, jumping up and down and cheering. After the presentation of the cup we paid are bill which was very low so we left a big tip as the barman had done really well and said goodbye to our friends.
We walked west right accross Vancouver to the other side of the city and to Stanley Park. On the way as we were starving we ended up at McDonalds to get a late lunch. We weren't really dressed for a walk in the park as it had turned out to be very hot today so we stuck mainly to the inside of the park which had shade from the trees. The park was beautiful and full of people including a load of people dressed up in various outfits including some pokemon, we also saw a raccoon.
We headed back to the hotel where we rested, my feet were rather tired as we'd crossed Vancouver twice that day and even after a rest I was pretty knackered so we just went down to the hotel restaurant to eat. I had a metropolitan cocktail and butter chicken and DH got a steak, the meals were ok but nothing special then back to our room for a bit of TV and bed.
