32 + 24 + 20 + 4 = 5 Fantasmic Days in the World --4/2 update

Looks like you had a very nice Christmas:thumbsup2 Katie looks very happy with her new toys.

I love the picture of Thor after the excitement. We had dog toy stuffing all over the place that morning too.

I'm looking forward to hearing how Sanaa goes. I think I would like it, but I might be the only one. However I am hoping to stay at Kidani one day and how can you stay there and not eat there?

You are definitely challenged with picking new dining venues Diane :) But I think Sanaa does have steak and chicken so hopefully DH and DD can find something.

My SIL gave Thor a present that took him a full 8 days for him to destroy. that is nearly a record!

Wow you know you’ve been away from your own PTR for a while when you have to re read the last page.

This morning my hubby came home and started telling me about a youtube video he was watching about Pizzafari, Yak & Yeti, and Jiko. AAA I love starting the day talking Disney. sigh. we looked at a few more things, talked about rides and restaurants, looked over the Sanaa menu again, then Jiko. Seeing the prices at Jiko sortof reminded me how I picked Sanaa over Jiko. I’m glad that I checked my PTR – I saw MEK’s comments about Sanaa and thought “ok, that’s a keeper.”

SO, Animal Kingdom closes at 7, and we have dinner reservations at Sanaa at 7:40 – plenty of time to catch the bus from the park to the resort, and hopefully some time to wander around. (I have borrowed a few image links to things I am hoping to see in person)

ani2.jpg

I get that the basic architecture of the AK is the same as the WLR – I love that big open concept, and really want to see the African style décor and the ways that Disney has chosen to make it stand out from its twin resort.

I am hoping to wander around and check out the pools and the upper floors from the Lobby. I definitely need to check out the store – last year Katie found this adorable pink tee with a leopard print Mickey silhouette and she loves it but is already outgrowing it. I spied one in blue green on KatMark’s PTR, and light blue and blue green are up high on Katie’s list of favorite colors. This is something we already know we want to bring home to Katie. I wouldn’t mind finding one for me too if they have it in my size.

I am guessing that dinner at Sanaa is going to take at least an hour, possibly more. That means most of the parks will be closed or closing when we are done.

Epcot has EMH till midnight this evening, so if we are looking for adventure, we will take the bus from AK to Epcot, and then wander our way through. Joe would be thrilled if we catch Illuminations again -
232323232%7Ffp539%3B5%3Enu%3D3253%3E495%3E7%3B8%3EWSNRCG%3D363%3A%3A4%3A57632%3Bnu0mrj
it is probably his favorite fireworks show at Disney.

With luck, we will be able to take a ride on Nemo and have a visit with Crush. With lots of luck we will be able to take a ride on Soarin’! -- that could be pushing it but we will check it out before moving on to Canada. I still have never seen the Martin Short movie at this pavilion, so maybe this will be the night. I think we will head over to England, and very likely stop for an ale. I have the phone numbers programmed into my phone for the red phone booths. I think we would all get a few giggles calling the number and talking to strangers on the phone thirty feet away.

After entertaining ourselves we will be able to browse through the little shops in the England pavilion
3312548699_0617684b9c.jpg
http://static.flickr.com/3606/3312548699_0617684b9c.jpg – again, something I can’t really thoroughly enjoy when being barraged with “Mommy can I …” “Mommy I want…” “Mommy can you buy me …”. Maybe we can even catch a band here – I have never seen them but the write ups here on the DIS have me hoping…

I am sure that we will be feeling very thirsty again, and ready to indulge in a Grand or a grey goose slushy.

Depending on how much energy we have, and how late it is, it would be nice to catch some entertainment at the Morocco Pavilion,
bellydancer.jpg
(the boys will like that :lmao:!) but in all honesty we will likely get our slushies and head back through our special “back door” entrance to Epcot and make our way back to the Yacht Club.

Late nights at Disney are made for a soak in the hot tub, right? Rest those weary tootsies in the jets. This is a favorite thing of mine to do, even if I just soak my feet and legs in the hot water. I fully expect that this night will be no exception. Some relaxation in the hot tub is just the thing to wind down after a fun day at Disney!

I have to ask ... what exactly is a Grand or Grey Goose - and which one is the picture of? I'm not much of a drinker, but this is the year. I feel it! I shall have a tasty adult beverage! And if you had to pick just one beverage in WSC, which would it be and where do I get it? :goodvibes

Loving your updates! popcorn:: I've not seen the Canada show either. It's on my list for March. And I need to get the phone numbers to the red booths! We won't hang around waiting to see if anyone is in them, but it would be awesome if our timing was right! I loved the old band... the name of them escapes me, but haven't heard much about the new one.

Your nightly plans to soak in the hot tub sound divine! :cloud9:

ooohhh Grand Marnier and Grey Goose...mmm a little taste of ice heaven. Grand Marnier is an alcoholic beverage with a bit of an orange taste; Grey Goose is a lemon vodka -- there is a kiosk in the France area near the water that sells alcoholic beverages and has these slushies in big machines like they have a seven eleven (but soo much better). Joe and I each had one - he had grey goose, I had grand mariner. both were very tasty and well worth the OOP expense. While I totally enjoy adult refreshments, I confess that I have not sampled all there is to sample in Epcot so I am not the expert in each country's specialty. I will tell you that Joe and I thoroughly enjoyed these slushies, they were icey cold on a hot day, had wonderful flavor, and were not "knock your socks off" type of drinks--I do think that if I could have only one adult beverage at WSC, this would be my choice. Both were yummy so it depends on if you are in an orange or a lemon sort of mood.:goodvibes

My cell phone is dead -- that is where I have stored the phone numbers for the red phone booths in England in Epcot. I found them online: (407) 827-9861
(407) 827-9862
(407) 827-9863

I can't remember the name of the group either but have read several TRs and it sounds like a fun show. Listening to groups like this is one of the reasons I am so excited to be going sans Katie. I love my girl but am really really looking forward to grown up time!:yay:

Thanks! I'm not big on lemon, but I love orange! So that answers that! :goodvibes

Thanks for the phone #'s!

I loved the last group they had ... just not sure if I'll enjoy this new group. Guess we'll see! :goodvibes

OK--I thought I was so far behind...but I'm not. :lmao: When Mark and I went for our fifth anniversary it was a lovely trip. Just like Mary Ellen mentioned, you will feel like royalty. On Valentine's Day, we had an ADR at California Grill. When I had first called to make the ADR, a very nice CM suggested that I make the ADR to conincide with Wishes, which I hadn't given much though to, although I knew that you could see the show from there. When we were walked over to our table, it was covered in Mickeyhead confetti and we scored a table directly in front of the giant plate glass windows, complete with a bird's eye view of the castle. I cried. No. I'm serious. I cried. Tears of joy..but stilll...I cried. :rotfl:

So, yes...you will be treated well pretty much everywhere you go. :thumbsup2

I was going to comment on your ADR plans, but you seem pretty set on those. We're eating at Kona the first time on this trip and I'm really lookihg forward to it. There and Sanaa seem to be two of the TS places that stand out in my mind for constantly getting great reviews here.

My only suggestion would be this...are you and Joe having your anniversary dinner alone? If so, I might consider doing OOP for dinner at a signature. That said, I know that they aren't for everyone. But...if there was a menu that appealed to you, and you're not on the DDP, you can do some fun things with ordering, for example, if I were to go to California Grill again, I think I'd order two small plates, rather than one of their entress. Just a suggestion.

I have heard great things about Captain's Grille, too. :goodvibes

And I"m with Joe on Illuminations... Its my favorite, too! Too bad Max has quite "gotten" fireworks yet. Silly boy. :rotfl:

Oh your anniversary sounds wonderful!!! I am hoping for some pixie dust pixiedust: though not mentioning any of it to Joe. No expectations = no disappointment.

Hmm California Grill looks really good, I might consider different reservations. We are aiming to do the Wishes Dessert party -- I called the concierge desk and asked if they can make the reservations, so its "on his list" for when they open the reservations for that night.

I made all of our ADRs for 4 -- its easier to downsize than upsize I figure -- and we will really enjoy having our friends with us.

I cannot even tell you how very tempted I am to upgrade to deluxe so that we can try more table service places. With Katie we end up doing lots of buffets and there are so very many restaurants to try. I can't really justify the extra $ - we normally just don't eat that much, and our friends definitely don't eat that much - but its OH so tempting!!

Joe and I both agree that our next trip with Katie will not be on the Dining Plan so we will have more flexibility then. see, always something to look forward to for the next trip!:goodvibes:goodvibes

This past Saturday, I took my sister in to New York City to see Momma Mia! She hit a landmark birthday in December, and truly she is just so darned generous with everything and helps me so much with Katie that I wanted to do something special for her birthday.

If you have a sister, and kids, (ok really just kids!!!) then you just know how wonderful it is to have a few hours to spend being able to talk :chat:about whatever you want, or not talk at all, without regular interruptions. As annoying and offensive as I find the show, the Family Guy commercial is so true: Mom. Mom. Mom. Mom. Mom. Mom.Mom.Mom…you get it.

I had not realized that my sister had not been to a Broadway show before, so was really glad and excited that I had picked a very fun show. My BFF Yvonne met up with us in NY (she lives in Queens). We had a beautiful drive in, no traffic YAY, and parked with ease.

Jean and I stopped at Dallas BBQ for a quick salad. No pictures, I was hungry! But I had a lovely spinach salad with mushrooms, and Jean had a Caesar salad. The salads were yummy and we finished them quickly so we could head up to the theater. Dallas BBQ had a nice menu, and while we ate downstairs, where it was drafty every time someone opened the door, the upstairs, was big, warm, open and has a fun Dallas/Wild West theme going. I would go back there again.

We headed up through Times Square – sunny but cold day. lots of people out in the city! Pretty soon we saw the sign for the Winter Garden Theater.
There was already a line to the corner, so I called Yvonne to see if she was in the line or still having coffee – she was not in line, so we joined the fray & she joined us a minute later. We actually got in very quickly, and headed right to our seats. We had great seats – we were pretty close, maybe 10-11 rows back. I quickly snapped a photo with my phone just to show how close we were to the stage,
closetostate.jpg
but did not take any pictures during the show. I only had my phone, which does not take great dark pictures, and the ushers were absolutely watching for phone glows, as I saw later in the show.

I had not seen the movie, just knew that the play had really good reviews, and who wouldn’t love a play based on Abba songs?

If you have not seen it, its an awesome show. The basic story line is a 20 year old girl is getting married, and invites the three men who could have been her father all to the wedding, without telling her mother. We saw some young kids there – not so sure I would want to answer questions based on a few of the lines in the play, but we, and the audience in whole, loved the lines, character interactions, and of course, Abba songs!

After the show, we walked a few blocks to a long time favorite restaurant of Joe and I, St. Andrews.

It’s a Scottish restaurant and bar – their new location has two floors, with the main dining area upstairs. We were seated in a room that faced the street, and we were the only people there at first, so I could take a picture of the décor a bit

with my phone before our server came. Across the street from our window, we could see Mickey and Minnie headed into a building for a break. There were characters all over Times Square Saturday night – it was odd. I took a picture but it didn’t turn out (my phone is not great for dark pictures, and it does not zoom.)

We ordered traditional Scottish fare: beet and wild greens salad with goat cheese, I had wild thistle-honey chicken with mashed potatoes and spinach , my sister Jean had surf and turf: a huge roasted pork chop, shrimp, mashed potatoes and asparagus

Yvonne had lamb with a thyme and rosemary seasoning, sweet potatoes, and asparagus. We shared a side of “bubble and squeak” which is sautéed cabbage, potatoes, and ayreshire bacon. Very tasty (though be warned: the bubble and squeak part comes later, when the cabbage kicks in LOL)

After dinner we started down through Time Square,

and found ourselves in front of the Disney Store. OF COURSE I had to go in! I am so sure that Yvonne was thinking I have lost my mind – She’s been to Disney several times but mostly because her aunt and uncle live in Orlando, and her cousin & his wife work for Disney. She would probably not go again. Anyway, back to the NYC Disney Store. It was really nice, I had not been to the new Times Square store—I had been to the Disney Store in 2007 or 2008 before it closed and they moved. Lots of unique NYC Disney items.

They had a fun muppets section – my nephew would have loved this guy:

and Jean and I both enjoyed the Bambi section

and of course with Mary Poppins on broadway they had a decent variety of items – I thought these guys were cute:

We headed upstairs, where there were a lot of toys for boys, Marvel items, and pixar movies
Jean liked the Jesse hat--too bad the glittery boots were kid sized only.

Heading back down stairs, there is a pretty mural with Mickey & Minnie

downescator_011412.jpg

We headed back out into the cold and continued a block – stopping to see the huge ferris wheel in Toys R Us.

toysrys_011412.jpg

Right outside of Times Square, we saw Mickey and Minnie, and yeah, I had to stop. I made Jean join the zaniness with me. It was funny because these characters of course had no qualms about talking, or asking for tips (I obliged).

We headed back toward our car & Yvonne headed off to catch a train. Jean and I made one more stop, a store we’d seen on our way to the theater: Hello Kitty! I found it surprising when I visited the Japan Pavilion in Epcot last year and saw so much Hello Kitty everywhere. I had no idea the little kitty was popular with adults, and this store totally proved it. There was your usual selections of tees and toys, but the purses

and shoes
show that this is NOT just for little girls!

Girls day out over, we headed home, but not before we splurged on Sonic Sundae’s (no car pics but they were yummy – I had caramel and Jean had hot fudge).

LOL true to real life, Sunday was spent nursing Katie who is at the tail end of a wicked cold, taking down the inside Christmas decorations, vacuuming, laundry, dishes, dinner, homework – the 10 hour vacation is over for sure!!!

More real Disney planning coming up soon!

I love Sanaa, yummy yummy yummy! A perfect dinner choice if you ask me and I like the idea of walking back through the WS. Mamma Mia would be so fun to see. I was bummed, I was supposed to see Cinderella in Dec and ended up with a conflict.

I hope you love Sanaa. I think I am going to add it to my June ADR list. I'm actually thinking about doing it as a late lunch on our last day. I can't be in Disney a whole week and NOT see the AKL. Those pictures are gorgeous.

As far as that slushy picture - it has to be the best I've seen on the boards. That slush looks like heaven in a glass! :worship:

Your trip to NYC looks like so much fun! Nothing like a play, dinner and a trip to the Disney store to make the perfect day!

As I was looking for a few photos to add to my PTR I realized that I just have to post a few from our first trip to Disney in 2007. This truly was THE most magical trip ever. It just was. I’m sure part of it is because it was a first trip for all of us, and because 2006 was an AWFUL year and so we went in January 2007 to, well, make ourselves feel better.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Katie in the airport, 7 am or so, watching them de ice the plane for take off:

The view from our door at the Coronado Springs

Yes, Kathy it IS one of the most beautiful resorts. Absolutely! This will probably be our 2013 destination

Aw, what great pictures:thumbsup2 Thanks for sharing your first trip.

Katie was so small and just adorable:goodvibes

I love the pictures of Katie...she is so cute. I agree about CSR...it is beautiful. We are torn for our September trip over there or OKW. You must try AKL; you will be in awe

I cannot wait to visit AKL in June. I LOVE animals, and so does DD but DH is well, eeehhh. though he did love the safari last May when we went first thing in the morning.

I am pretty sure (as sure as any Dis'er is 16 months out:rotfl2:) that we will do CSR with Katie in 2013 (assuming she puts sassy girl away ). We have a free 7 day park pass for each of us (but not park hopper)that we will use for that trip.

Happy anniversary happy anniversary happy anniversary HAPPY ANNIVERSARY.

Twenty years ago on this day I married my Mr. Right in an old fashioned church wedding—three years and two days after our first date.

6692_weddingcandle.jpg

6692_in-park.jpg

Much like our wedding itself, our life has had its ups and downs, filled with magical loving moments, moments of utter silliness, problems that could have stopped us in our tracks if we’d let them, and most of all lots of love and support and friends, family, and each other. I was still in college when we married, and we had lots going on – a big far far away honeymoon was not in the plans for us so we spent a few days in the Poconos – a short 40 minute drive from home. We said we’d go away for our fifth wedding anniversary. But in ’97 we were new home owners, with a puppy. I think we went to the mountains for a few days with our puppy. We’ll do something awesome for our tenth anniversary! So in 2002 we moved into a new house. No trip that year. … though we did manage to start on a new addition :goodvibes and Katie came along in 2003. We did not even kid ourselves that we’d go away for our 15th ….. I think we went on a fun camping trip with Katie, Thor and our friends. 20 would be the year.

So last summer we started talking about what we could do to celebrate 20 years. Alaska is just too far out of our budget. It’s not just the cruise itself, but adding in the cross country flight from PA. We toyed with a few other spots, but nothing had the magic like Disney. We’d just gotten back from a trip last May, and really Joe was a bit disappointed in the lack of birthday WOW that he was hoping for, so I was not sure he’d go for it.

It did not take long for him to agree to go, and then to be just as excited as I am for our trip. We invited my BFF Lesley, who was in our wedding as well, and her hubby to go with us for an adults only trip. My sister offered to take Katie for the week, the dog sitter was booked last fall, and here we are, planning away! We figured we will have lots to celebrate in those five day: 23 years from our first date and 20 years of marriage for us. Colin just retired after 23 years in the US Army, and Lesley & Colin have finally moved into their very own house after 20+ years of military housing. Finally, isn’t always good to celebrate a lifelong friendship? Lesley & I have been friends for 32 years!(HAHAHA I just realized my title is wrong – I put 24 in it! Let’s see who notices! )

So, on to Disney!

So, this day we will wake up early and likely once again enjoy fruit, yogurt and pastries in the concierge lounge. Not sure if Joe will be sticking to his early morning runs this day.

My goal is Hollywood Studios – early! The park opens at 8 a.m. I plan on us getting there right on time, earlier if possible. We have been to DHS at opening in the past and have never witnessed a “rope drop” type show or anything here – maybe one does not exist for DHS?

I would love to take the ferry over, though no doubt Joe will torment me for waiting longer for transportation than it takes to walk there. We shall see.

First up at HS: fast passes for TSM!

That is one ride that I know we will all enjoy. If Joe is game, I may send him back with our passes—the man walks faster than many of us run! Presuming he gets our fast passes, we will need to check the schedule of shows. Seeing the Indiana Jones show is a MUST on this day ….. Indiana Jones was our first date movie :lovestruc
I think also that Colin will really enjoy the Lights!Motors!Action! show,

and this WILL be the trip where I get to see the Beauty and the Beast show.

Honestly, we will be working rides in around the shows here.

Rides that we will all enjoy:
TSM (of course!)

Lesley will not ride this one, but the rest of us will have a blast. We will try for FPs and maybe ride twice if it works.

Rock n Roller Coaster – I may pass on this one, but Joe, Colin and Lesley will probably ride

Great Movie Ride …c’mon, it’s a classic!

Animation Tour – a must! we will try our best to get into a drawing class as well.

One Man’s Dream – Joe and I have never seen this. I think Lesley may have seen it at Disneyland, but not sure and I have no idea if Colin has seen it or not.

Backlot Tour –

I think this is fun and love seeing the behind the scenes of the park.

MuppetVision 3D – Lesley and I will absolutely ride this, but Joe and Colin will likely pass.
Star Tours
232323232%7Ffp43%3A%3Enu%3D3264%3E876%3E6%3A4%3EWSNRCG%3D323556%3C4%3A3748nu0mrj

– I could pass on this, reading a few other TR’s has me sure that I would be queasy after its over.

I hope that we can see Phineaus and Ferb while we are in the park. I don’t think I’ll be collecting autographs but I will stop for photos with characters. I don’t think I’ll have a problem getting Lesley to join in with me, and the guys may just for giggles and black mail later on.

We won’t be going here:
232323232%7Ffp373%3Enu%3D3264%3E876%3E6%3A4%3EWSNRCG%3D323556%3C4%3A37%3A%3Bnu0mrj
though I will miss it because it’s a fun playground!

At some point we will be hungry….and I made 12:30 lunch reservations at 50’s Prime Time.:cool1: I have been wanting to try this for some time, and we ended up canceling our ADR here last May – Star Wars Weekend made it too crazy. so we will enter a time warp and head back to the 50’s for a good old fashioned lunch. I am really hoping for a great in-character server here.

I really don’t have a solid breakdown of the day – I want to see the show schedule, and work our way around the park accordingly. HS is open till 7 and we will stay for almost the whole day here. We have dinner reservations back at the Yacht Club in the Captain’s Grille at 7 p.m. We will have to head out of the park around 5:30 or so to give us time to head back and freshen up for a nice anniversary dinner.

After dinner, we will stroll around the lake and visit the resorts.

My TA told me about JellyRolls at the Boardwalk, and that sounds like a lot of fun. At this point, none of the parks have an especially late close – the MK is open the longest, till 10 p.m., so the chances of heading back out to a park is slim to none. Entertainment at Jelly Rolls followed by drinks by the pool sounds like a nice night.

Mary Ellen, the plans sound great for the day. You will LOVE Beauty & The Beast (one of my favorite shows at all of the parks). We cancelled 50's Prime Time in September too and hope to fit it in this trip.

I think you and Joe will really like One Man's Dream; we try to catch it at least every other trip.

The rest of the plans sound terrific.

I am so happy you are finally getting away for a real anniversary trip. We never had a real honeymoon or big trips together but finally managed to get away for our 10th on the Dream.

That is so cute that you can see the Indiana Jones show since it was your first date movie:goodvibes
