3-year-old meals: can a 5-year-old order them?

I have a five-year-old daughter who eats next to nothing-- because of some medical problems that affect her chewing and swallowing, she receives most of her nutrition through a g-tube in her belly. She will eventually outgrow this, but it's a long, hard process. To encourage eating, though, we always offer her regular food at every meal, most of which goes to waste. I've seen reference to several dining locations that offer small meals for three-year-olds and under with 'cheesy macaroni' and stuff like that. Does your kid HAVE to be under three to order this, or is anybody free to order it? It seems like a good option for us since the portion would be smaller and mac & cheese is one of the few things she's usually successful at eating.

I do have a toddler, but I'm usually standing in line alone ordering food for my family while they wait at a table. I've never been questioned. I think the main reason they specify age is that it just wouldn't be enough to fill up a typical older kid. I really don't think they police it.

I am not a big eater so sometimes a kid's meal is plenty for me.
I have ordered the macaroni & cheese kid's meal several times and never been questioned.

Yeah they won't check if you have a kid. I agree that it's most likely so you can guess how your kid will eat. My 8 year old ate like a 3 year old until last year LOL This year I'm wondering if we'll have to get him an adult meal *gulp*

Anyway, You totally won't have a problem getting your kiddo a small meal :)

The only place where you're "forced" to order from the adult menu is at a table service restaurant with a kids' menu. And that cutoff is 10, which is the age Disney considers one to be an "adult" and pay adult prices. At counter service, anyone can order any type of meal.

If you did a character meal, or a WOC meal...those are set prices for kids (3-9) and adults (10 and up).

I was going to say...sometimes I get a kids meal for myself if I've not too hungry. I don't see why you couldn't get a 3 y/o meal for a 5 y/o. Maybe at a buffet or a sit down meal they may require you to order the age appropriate meal.

I've ordered myself the "snack pack" and a kids meal at CS places. At TS you won't be allowed to do this. However, if you have a note from your dr it is possible they will make an exception for you at TS places, it's actually very likely. I know people who have gastric bypass can bring a note and they are allowed to order from the kids menus.

You would hope that the Parks would care more about people ordering food that they'll eat instead of ordering food that will go to waste.
If I don't eat what I've purchased and I leave a lot behind I feel guilty, I'd much rather order a smaller portion that I will finish.

You would think, however this has not been the case IME.

My DD (14) generally prefers kids meals and orders them all the time (CS and TS). The only time it makes a difference is if it is a buffet (set pricing adult vs child). But for example, when we eat at Cafe Orleans or Blue Bayou, she orders from the kid's menu every time.

Even at Club 33 she was able to order off the kids menu. Of course we had to pay the minimum price as if she were an adult there (pricing based on age). They just brought her a double order of her food (which of course, she couldn't finish).

Thanks, everyone-- I figured it probably wouldn't be an issue, but a little extra re-assurance is always a good thing. :)
