3 surgeries in 6 days and only 24 more days til trip!

Thanks for coming over. It’s nice to have you here.

Thanks for the info on the “firework” design. I really liked how you made the “ears” the same color instead of 2 different colors like she showed on her web site. I love Frou Frou’s designs. I have bought a ton of them and I have never had one sew out bad.

I always like to hear when someone likes their DIL. My mother and father-in-law absolutely HATE me. They hated me the second I walked into their son’s life and they haven’t changed since. They have made my life miserable. My hubby and I have been HAPPILY married for 28 ½ years. You’d think that after that long of a time, they’d be tired of being such meanies!

I like your philosophy on getting things done. My hubby keeps telling me the same thing. I've always done TONS of things for everyone when we go on trips and it’s hard not living up to “my standards”!

I hope you get to do a cruise soon!

I chose to do the firework design in red and blue on a white shirt because I knew we were doing the dessert party on 9/11 and I just felt it was appropriate.

My 2nd son is engaged to a wonderful young woman too (even if she is a Yankees fan - lol). She is the perfect choice for him also. They haven't set a date yet, but it will probably be late next summer.

I hope you are feeling better.

I'm joining in! I just sent you a PM, if you need any help over the next few weeks getting stuff done let me know, I'd love to help out if I can. Hopefully everything works out with all your reservations and you find the missing luggage.

Sounds like you had a busy day and you were able to get a lot accomplished.

Too funny about the chain - glad dgd is happier at it now. LOL

I hope you are feeling better soon.

D~

It was really funny about the countdown chain. DGD was actually yelling at the chain. She called it “stupid” for not staying on the railing. She is definitely happier now. She doesn't think it is ‘stupid’ anymore!

I think I am feeling a little bit better. Thanks.

That was very appropriate to have that design in red and blue. Good choice.

That is so awesome that you are going to have another wonderful DIL! My unmarried son is very worried that we won’t like whomever he chooses for a wife as much as we love our first DIL. I told him that there is a simple solution to that – let me pick who he marries!;)

I think I am feeling a bit better. Thanks.

Thanks for coming over Princessmickey. Thanks also for your offer of help. It was very sweet of you. I’ll be sure to let you know if I need anything.

So far, I haven’t found that stupid suitcase. I just don’t know what possibly could have happened to it!

Sent you a PM too:)

I really needed to get myself to both Target and Kohl’s today. I didn't find any clothing at Target but I did buy a lot of paper products and cleaning products that we were low on.

At Kohl’s, I found a real cute nightgown for DGD. I bought her a nice dress that she can wear on semi-formal night. It was on sale for 30% off. I bought 6 pairs of shorts for DH. The shorts were originally between $40 and $55 each. They were on clearance for between $5 and $7 – SCORE!:cool1: I found only 1 pair of shorts and a pair of capris for me. I didn't get as good of a deal on my clothing as I got for DH, but I still got about 50% off the original price. (Actually, I always find better deals at Kohl’s for men than for women.) I was hoping to find more shorts as I don’t have any shorts that I can wear anymore – I've been working real hard and I've recently lost over 20 pounds and I don’t fit in any of my old clothing!!! Mind you, I am NOT complaining! I looked at suitcases but I really didn't find anything I liked. I am still giving it a few more days for the suitcase to show up before I buy one anyway.

Both sons and DIL came over. Hubby made a nice dinner of gnocchi. He also made meatballs and sausage but I couldn't eat those.:sad1: We made homemade ice cream. TDF! That is my ALL TIME FAVORITE dessert. I was very proud of myself because I didn't eat too much - like I usually do with homemade ice cream. (I don’t want to gain back those 20 pounds!)

I gave everyone gifts for the cruise that I had already made. They each got luggage tags that were made from Perry the Platypus fabric. I gave them each a suitcase handle cover that I made from Monsters University fabric. I gave each of them 2 T-shirts that I made with the iron-on transfers. I gave each of them a neck cooler and a rain coat. They each got a neck holder passport/boarding pass pouch thingy I made a month ago. They all seemed to enjoy their gifts. We finalized plans for all of us to get to the airport. We decided on our last shore excursions for Castaway Cay. We double checked all our other shore excursions and everything seemed to be in order. We even had a little time to play the game Rumikub. (We are taking that game with us on the cruise because we all like to play it.) I always enjoy time with my sons. I really miss them living in my home. They really do grow up way to fast!

Have a Magical week everyone!

:offtopic: As I've already told you, I have legal custody of my granddaughter. I've had her since the day she was born so although technically, I am her “grandma”, she considers me her mother, and she, my daughter. I feel the same way. I've been referring to her as “DGD” but that just doesn't seem right, so for now on, I am going to refer to her as “DD”. I hope this doesn't create confusion, it just feels that ‘daughter’ is a more correct term for the sweet little girl I am raising.

I had an appointment with my surgeon today. Still not healing the way he would like – I still have a pretty good infection so he is extending my time on antibiotics. :( I am also healing extremely slowly, but I’m not surprised. That’s always the way it is with me. He said as long as the infection doesn’t get any worse, I shouldn’t have to have any more surgeries! Here’s keeping my fingers crossed the infection stays in check! He won’t give me the “OK” to go on our cruise – YET. He wants to wait at least another week or so before he says it will be all right for me to go.

No school today for DD. I decided we needed to do something to help pass the time. A new Disney store opened up in our area a few months ago and we haven’t made it out there yet so we drove 28 miles to get there. It was nice, but I must say that is the smallest Disney store I've ever seen! I bought DD a real cute nightgown that has Ariel on it. I also got her a Perry the Platypus t-shirt. I also snuck an adorable necklace into our purchases that she never saw me do. I am planning on giving it to her on the airplane. I figured I couldn't go to the Disney store and not get something for myself so I splurged and I bought a Mickey Mouse night shirt for myself.

Two days ago, a chunk of the rubber on the bottom of DD tennis shoe just fell off. We went to the shoe store to buy new tennis shoes. I found her a really cute pair that had Minnie on it, but she wanted some with peace signs on so those are the ones we bought. (I’m sorry – I must not be raising that girl right if she passes on something Disney!)

On the way home, we stopped at Dairy Queen. She had a hot fudge sundae but I was very good, I passed on the ice cream. Why is it that everything that is SOOOO good must have a TON of calories?

Still no sign of the suitcase. I'm beginning to think it’s a lost cause and I’m going to have to buy a new one.

It is after 11:30 PM now. I am going to try to go to the sewing room for a little while and get a little bit done.

Have a fabulous day everyone!

Soooo hooked on this PTR already. Sending you good vibes to be cleared to go on your cruise!!!!!

You are amazing. I cannot believe you making all of those things. How fabulous.

I think it's very appropriate that you refer to DGD to DD. :thumbsup2

Sounds like you got some great deals at Kohls - I love shopping there! Especially when I get my extra 30% LOL.

Such a bummer about the suitcase - I sure hope it shows up soon. Did you borrow it to someone?

Great job keeping your eating under control... It's so hard to be vigilent all the time... I've been trying very hard to eat as naturally as I can - I am not perfect - but it sure helps me stay away from items like DQ, just because I am not sure what is in it. That doesn't mean I don't indulge occasionally though. LOL Our local "DQ" (which isn't a DQ) has "kiddie cones" - so they are about half the size of a small... Perfect for a taste, but doesn't blow the diet either. Not sure if the regular DQ has those or not?

Your trip is approaching fast!

D~

Welcome! I’m glad you are enjoying it. Thanks so much for the good vibes – it helps!

Don’t you just love that extra 30% off at Kohl’s? Kohl’s cash is pretty cool too!

We didn't loan out our suitcase to anyone so I am really stumped as to where it could be.

I am really trying to eat well. I do fall off the wagon once in a while, but usually, I'm pretty good. I've been a ‘sugar fiend’ for a LONG time and I’m pre-diabetic so I really need to watch that. It’s been very hard staying away from sweets. I will have to see if DQ has a “kiddie” size cone. It would have been nice to have just a taste. As it was, I felt so deprived and when I feel that way, that’s when I usually go overboard and totally kill the diet.

In some ways, I feel like our trip will never get here, but in other ways, it seems like my trip is coming up WAAAAAAY too fast and I'm not ready for it!

Last night I went up to my sewing room. I completed the embroidered castle jacket for DD. I was able to get the autograph pillowcase almost completed. I've got one more seam to sew up and it will be done. I got 6 T-shirts embroidered (these will be the only ones I embroider – the rest will have iron-on transfers.) I also got a couple of pieces of my DIL hipster quilted.

No school for DD. We spent a part of the day finishing up our Fish Extender gifts and getting them all packaged up. I’m still not positive of the address where I need to ship this to.

DD is such a girl - she wanted to make sure everything she was taking on the trip was going to fit so she spent the rest of the morning and a good chunk of the afternoon trying on EVERYTHING she was planning on taking with her on the cruise (mind you, she is planning on taking enough clothing to last at least two months!).

In the late afternoon, we went to the Halloween store to look for pirate costumes. I found one that was perfect for DH. I didn't buy it because I want him to try it on to make sure it fits before we buy it so they put it on hold for him. I couldn't believe how inappropriate the pirate costumes are for females. Even in little girl sizes they are, shall we say, “revealing”. I can’t believe any parent would allow their child to dress up in that type of clothing. Here’s a News flash: My 7 year old daughter is not floozy! I am not one either! There are some women who want their dresses longer than 1 inch below their rear-ends! Some of us don’t want shirts cut half way down to our bellybuttons either! I am far from a prude, but seriously, there wasn't even ONE costume for either DD or myself that wasn't inappropriate.

We finally got around to actually booking our final shore excursions today for Castaway Cay. DS and DIL will go off by themselves for a while. Other DS and DH will be going off together in the morning. DD and I will stay aboard the ship in the morning. We will all meet up in the afternoon and everyone will go snorkeling. Don’t know if I will be able to do it or not – we are just going to play that by ear.

It's 11:15 now so I'm headed up to the sewing room to finish the pillowcase and also hopefully get the rest of the pieces of DIL hipster quilted so I can start putting it together tomorrow or the next day.

Have a GREAT day everyone!

Last night I went up to my sewing room and I was able to get DIL embroidered castle jacket done and the autograph pillowcase totally completed. I got all the pieces quilted for DIL’s hipster. I also remembered DD needed a hat for the cruise so I made her a reversible bucket hat with Tinkerbell on one side and the Princesses on the other. All in all, it was a good sewing night.

No school again. More than half way through the break now.

While DD was playing today, I worked on getting an activity book completed for her to work on at the airport and on the plane. I got 150 pages of mazes, dot-to-dots, word searches, crosswords, miscellaneous puzzles and coloring pages done. It’s amazing how many of these puzzles you can find online. All I had to do was copy and paste them into a Word document, re-size and voila! :thumbsup2

DD is getting SO excited for the trip. I admit, I’m not sure who is more excited – her or me!

Hubby went to the Halloween store and liked the pirate costume I picked out for him. He found a real cool pirate hat too. He found a parrot that sits on your shoulder for a couple of bucks and he figured DD would get a kick out of having that so he bought it for her. He is going to surprise her with it on Pirate Night on the cruise. DD wants me to buy her a pair of boots but any boots I can find that look “pirate – like” that she wants is well over $50. I refuse to spend that much for me, much less for a costume that DD would wear once. Yea, I know, I’m a horrible mother because I won’t give my kid everything she wants ;)

I’m off to the sewing room now. I’ll have to look at my list to figure out what I’m sewing next.

Have a grand day everyone!

Ha ha!!! I hear you on the reveal ness on the Halloween costumes. I saw a tweet/fbupdate/some social media quote last year say something like "I wonder what prostitutes dress up like for Halloween". Lol.

I am not sure I ever really noticed before I saw that quote. But then again I now have 2 DDs. One almost 2 and the other 11 weeks so I pay more attention now.

Your family is so lucky to have such a generous and gifted seamstress as you. You MUST come back and show us the pics!!!

Wow, you've really done a bunch of sewing these last few days! I agree on the costumes and how revealing they are. I don't have girls but I have 2 nieces and the last time I went shopping with them I was surprised at how short and revealing regular clothes are too. It was a challenge to find shorts that weren't too short and appropriate shirts for them. I really feel for all you having to dress girls.

I remember having problems finding appropriate clothing for my dds when they were kids. Why do clothing manufacturers think we want our little girls to dress like they were 18? I hated shopping for clothing then too. How about we let our little girls be little girls? Ok rant over.

Sounds like you are busy, busy, busy preparing for a fun trip!

I LOVE that media quote! It’s so funny!

Thank you for the compliment. I am planning on showing pictures on my TR after I come back home.

You’re right – even ‘regular’ clothing for girls are - more times than not – too revealing. I've also seen so many inappropriate words written on girl’s clothing. It is quite sad, really.

I agree – let’s let our little girls be little girls. They already grow up too fast, let’s not rush the process!

How is your niece? I've been thinking about her all day long. I hope everything went well with her surgery.

2 weeks from today we will be in Florida!

I am so excited. We are already on page 3 of my report!

Last night I got the front panel of DIL hipster embroidered. I wanted to do “hand embroidery” on it but I don’t have time for that so I used a stock design and my embroidery machine. I got about ½ of it assembled. I also got 6 more t-shirts done with the transfers. I finished my castle embroidered jacket.

Today, I double checked (or is it triple or quadruple checked by now?) all of our reservations. Except for the hotel, everything seems to be in order. The hotel still isn't helping us so we have decided we don’t have a choice - we will have to stay in 2 different hotels :headache: :sad2:

My doorbell rang today. It was UPS - EXCITING! (Who doesn't love when UPS comes? You always get some sort of “goodies”!) It was a whole bunch of fabric! WOO HOO! I got my Hawaiian fabric for our matching outfits. I ordered the fabric about 3 weeks ago. I don’t know if I will get the outfits completed, but I certainly hope so – especially since I already paid for the fabric!

No school today so DD and I just had a fun day. We went with her friend to a park and we were there for several hours. We went to the library and went to “story time” and we both picked out a couple of books. We came home and then we baked some cookies. It was a really fun day. I have such a good time with her. I relish every second with her (okay, not every second, but mostly every second). She is the light of my and DH life.

I had to alter DD’s Halloween costume. I wanted to sew it from scratch but I felt I wouldn't have time so I bought it from Disney. She is going to be Jasmine from Aladdin. With the way it was designed, it was difficult to alter – I had to do most of it by hand. I got it half way altered though so it's coming along.

Off to sew.

Have a splendid day everyone!

Wow~! I can't believe how much you've accomplished in the last few days!

I sure hope you are able to get everything done.

I agree - it's so hard to dress girls... Shorts are too short, tops are too low... It's crazy!

Sounds like you had a great day too... my girls have been off of school for a few days due to MEA (Minnesota's fall break)... It's been nice having them around. :)

Have a great day!

D~

I am happy with how much I've gotten sewn. I just hope I can get the rest finished in time! It does help that I only sleep 1 - 3 hours a night. I get so much accomplished at 3:00 in the morning!

Glad it's been nice having your girls around.

Last night I was able to finish DIL hipster. I got all the pieces cut out for DD and my hipsters and I got a couple of pieces quilted. Around 3:30 in the morning, I was embroidering my DH’s Haunted Mansion jacket when I did something really stupid. I was not paying attention (I know better!) and the embroidery machine sewed through my finger. (I think his jacket might be destroyed because I got blood all over it.) I drove myself to the emergency room. There was still a piece of the broken needle left in my finger. It took a while, but the doctor was able to get it out and I needed 2 stitches. I will get the stitches out the day before we leave. Thankfully, except for handwriting, I am ambidextrous so I’m not too limited in what I can’t do.

Of course, I messed up my embroidery machine. I took it into the shop this morning and he looked at it and thankfully, he doesn't think it’s too badly messed up. He said he will probably need a couple of days to fix it and I should be able to get it back soon. It is time to do a complete tune up on it and he wanted to do that now since it was already in the shop but I told him I didn't have the time for him to do that now and anyway, I am planning on taking it in to have a total overhaul during our trip.

DD and I went to a different Halloween store today. Although they also had several inappropriate pirate costumes, at least there were a couple that were descent. I bought DD a cute outfit that has a matching hat. I found an outfit for me too.:cool1: I originally wanted all of us to have pirate outfits that matched but since we had to buy them, that won’t happen, but that’s okay. The costumes look good on their own – they just don’t coordinate with each other.

After the Halloween store, DD and I stopped by Hobby Lobby and JoAnn’s. Of course, I HAD to buy some fabric. I bought DD some of that fabric that is already shirred with elastic and all you have to do is sew up one seam and add some sort of straps. Normally I like to make all her dresses from start to finish, but I figured this would save me some time and I really need some extra time right now!

I am heading upstairs to do some sewing – and this time, I will pay attention!

Have an incredible weekend everyone!

Last night I was able to get all the men’s Hawaiian shirt pieces cut out. I was also able to quilt a couple of pieces of DD hipster. And this time, I didn't sew through my finger! :thumbsup2

WEEKEND! Hurrah for the weekend! DH, DD and I went to the swimming pool. I am so spoiled by this pool. They keep the temperature around 93 degrees. It is so nice to not have that “shock” when you first go into a cold pool. There is a lazy river and they have several waterfalls and a really cool water slide too. DD isn’t quite tall enough to go on it so only DH went. We had DD practice her snorkeling. It’s taken a long time, but she is finally starting to get the hang of the snorkel.

After swimming, we went to Target and looked for a suitcase. There was one or two that we figured would work but we want to look other places before we actually purchase one.

This evening, we watched some Disney movies to help get us in the mood for our trip – not that we need any help getting in the mood! We watched Tangled and several Mickey Mouse shorts. We talked about all the characters we are going to see. We looked online to see pictures of the islands we are going to. Can’t wait!

Can you guess where I’m heading? Right! The sewing room!

Have an excellent day everyone!

Sounds like you had a fantastic day!!!

I hope you are able to find a decent suitcase at a decent price! I hate luggage shopping. I may have to splurge before our next trip and upgrade the girls to bigger luggage - currently they have the size smaller than the biggest and their clothes are nearly as big as mine... It might be time?

Yay - I love watching Disney movies... Especially Tangled... It's my favorite Disney princess movie ever!

I hope you had a great nigth in your sewing room!

D~
