Wow, I hope I still have some readers, I have been a major slacker on this TR lately. I had these next two updates ready a couple days ago but never got around to posting them. So here we go again (finally!)...
Monday, August 9, 2010 contd (part 5)
This update is going to be mostly pictures but Im sure you wont mind that. Our plan for the evening was to go back to the Magic Kingdom to see the Main Street Electrical Parade and the Summer Nightastic fireworks. We didnt want to save it for later in the week and risk the possibility of there being rain. The weather looked like it was going to be decent for that night so it was off to the MK again.
When we got there, it was around 7:00 or maybe a little after and people were already starting to stake out spots for the parade. Now, if it was Spectromagic we wouldnt have bothered since weve seen it and dont mind standing but since we have never seen the MSEP we wanted to be closer to the street. But first we went over to Tomorrowland so I could grab something to eat. Any guesses as to what I got? Yes, one of those cream cheese pretzels! Mmmm, so good! That served as my dinner that night along with orange soda. For some reason I ALWAYS get orange soda in Disney World. Seriously Id take an orange soda over an alcoholic beverage any day. Maybe that makes me strange but I love it! LOL.
Once we were back on Main Street we found a spot and just waited for the parade. We enjoyed people watching and seeing all the lights go on on all the buildings. There's just something about the MK at night that is so magical! I love all the lights, seeing families head out for the night, and all of the vendors getting ready for the parade.
Pretty colors on the castle!
The parade was scheduled to start at 9:00 so about 10 minutes before they did the typical warning announcements saying it would be starting shortly. This is where I thought we werent going to get to see the parade. A few minutes later, like when they would typically do the five minute warning, an another announcement came on. Well, instead of it being the five minute announcement, it said This evenings performance of the Main Street Electrical Parade has been delayed. WHAT?! I nearly started freaking out because we had waited an hour and a half for a parade that might not even get off? I was wondering if there were rain showers in the area that they had to wait for. The good news was it was just DELAYED not cancelled. So we sat and waited a few more minutes when yet another announcement came on. I was half expecting it to say the performance was cancelled but it was still saying it was delayed. Then finally some important looking people came walking down Main Street so I was hoping that meant it was going to be starting. I also noticed one of the crowd controlling cast members was looking down toward the end of Main Street near the train station like the floats were pulling out. Sure enough, we could see the lights go out ahead and then the colorful lights. YAY!
One of my favorite parts of Spectromagic is when they turn off the street lamps so I wanted to capture that on video. You can tell everyone was pretty excited that it was starting (even though it only ended up being delayed about 15 minutes).

You can also hear part of the MSEP music, the Baroque Hoedown. I have read a lot of TRs where people say they cant stand the music because its so repetitive but honestly I kind of liked it! Seriously, knowing it is such classic Disney, how could I not enjoy it?
And now Ill let the pictures do the talking
Tinkerbell kicked off the start of the parade which was awesome!
Some of the details on the Tink float...sorry for the blurriness.
Also at the beginning was the train float. This is where I really started thinking, WOW, this is such a classic because I had seen/read so much about the train at the beginning. I am slightly disappointed the picture didn't turn out better. Oh well.
Then the mice from Cinderella paved the way for some royalty...

Peter Pan
Dopey!
Pete's dragon! I also really liked this part. Pete would talk to the crowd and everything. Loved it!
And then the famous To Honor America ending which I had also read/heard about.
For some reason this part really made me think about Walt Disney and all the amazing things he did. What would we have done without him?! Aww, Walt.
Overall I really enjoyed the Main Street Electrical Parade. It was fun seeing something new to me, yet like I said, something that is a classic in Disney parks.
