3 sisters + 2 worlds=5 days of Orlando fun! An Aug. '10 TR...final thoughts p. 45

Wow, I hope I still have some readers, I have been a major slacker on this TR lately. I had these next two updates ready a couple days ago but never got around to posting them. So here we go again (finally!)...

Monday, August 9, 2010 cont’d (part 5)

This update is going to be mostly pictures but I’m sure you won’t mind that. Our plan for the evening was to go back to the Magic Kingdom to see the Main Street Electrical Parade and the Summer Nightastic fireworks. We didn’t want to save it for later in the week and risk the possibility of there being rain. The weather looked like it was going to be decent for that night so it was off to the MK again.

When we got there, it was around 7:00 or maybe a little after and people were already starting to stake out spots for the parade. Now, if it was Spectromagic we wouldn’t have bothered since we’ve seen it and don’t mind standing but since we have never seen the MSEP we wanted to be closer to the street. But first we went over to Tomorrowland so I could grab something to eat. Any guesses as to what I got? Yes, one of those cream cheese pretzels! Mmmm, so good! That served as my dinner that night along with orange soda. For some reason I ALWAYS get orange soda in Disney World. Seriously I’d take an orange soda over an alcoholic beverage any day. Maybe that makes me strange but I love it! LOL.

Once we were back on Main Street we found a spot and just waited for the parade. We enjoyed people watching and seeing all the lights go on on all the buildings. There's just something about the MK at night that is so magical! I love all the lights, seeing families head out for the night, and all of the vendors getting ready for the parade.

The parade was scheduled to start at 9:00 so about 10 minutes before they did the typical warning announcements saying it would be starting shortly. This is where I thought we weren’t going to get to see the parade. A few minutes later, like when they would typically do the five minute warning, an another announcement came on. Well, instead of it being the five minute announcement, it said “This evening’s performance of the Main Street Electrical Parade has been delayed.” WHAT?! I nearly started freaking out because we had waited an hour and a half for a parade that might not even get off? I was wondering if there were rain showers in the area that they had to wait for. The good news was it was just DELAYED not cancelled. So we sat and waited a few more minutes when yet another announcement came on. I was half expecting it to say the performance was cancelled but it was still saying it was delayed. Then finally some important looking people came walking down Main Street so I was hoping that meant it was going to be starting. I also noticed one of the “crowd controlling” cast members was looking down toward the end of Main Street near the train station like the floats were pulling out. Sure enough, we could see the lights go out ahead and then the colorful lights. YAY!

One of my favorite parts of Spectromagic is when they turn off the street lamps so I wanted to capture that on video. You can tell everyone was pretty excited that it was starting (even though it only ended up being delayed about 15 minutes).

You can also hear part of the MSEP music, the Baroque Hoedown. I have read a lot of TRs where people say they can’t stand the music because it’s so repetitive but honestly I kind of liked it! Seriously, knowing it is such classic Disney, how could I not enjoy it?

And now I’ll let the pictures do the talking…

Tinkerbell kicked off the start of the parade which was awesome!

Some of the details on the Tink float...sorry for the blurriness.

Also at the beginning was the train float. This is where I really started thinking, WOW, this is such a classic because I had seen/read so much about the train at the beginning. I am slightly disappointed the picture didn't turn out better. Oh well.

And then the famous To Honor America ending which I had also read/heard about.

For some reason this part really made me think about Walt Disney and all the amazing things he did. What would we have done without him?! Aww, Walt. :goodvibes

Overall I really enjoyed the Main Street Electrical Parade. It was fun seeing something new to me, yet like I said, something that is a classic in Disney parks.

Continued in next post…

Orange soda sounds so good right now

I really need to remember to try one of those pretzels! I always mean to but then I always forget!

The MK looks packed! It was very crowded both nights we went there too! Must be the MSEP :confused3

Oh I just loved watching that parade! From close up and from the Noodle Station seating area it was like watching two different parades! There are just so many details to see on those floats :lovestruc

Great update!

Is the MSEP different from the Spectromagic???? It looks like the parade I've seen but it must have been MSEP and I thought it was Spectromagic??:confused3

nice pics! My parade pics were blurry too!! I have to ask, which do you like better now having seen both..Spectro or MSEP?? Mine is Spectro. After MSEP was over, I was kind of like..that's it? I don't know, I guess I thought it would be longer maybe?? I remember seeing it when I was a kid but back then parades were the most horrible part about WDW so I of course didn't enjoy it..haha

I'm curious about this, too. I absolutely love Spectro. I watched the MSEP on youtube, courtesy of Jack Spence from allears, and I wasn't crazy about it. Granted, it was also the soundtrack from the Disneyland version, so I don't know if that made a difference. The song just kind of annoys me-after about 3 minutes I wanted to turn the sound off. So which do you prefer?

Hi Sarah!

Getting all caught up again!

Awww.your pix of MSEP totally took me back to the night we were there. :goodvibes The music was a little repetitive but we enjoyed it, we loved the parade overall - very cool!

Good job being brave enough to try Beverly!!! I guess us Wisconsites are just tough like that!!! :thumbsup2 I tried it too - it wasn't that bad - just a little bitter. I confess I only took a small sip but it was enough to get the flavor!

And to most people Wisconsin = cheese. No way to avoid those conversations! I guess the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board is doing their job pretty successfully! :lmao:

Loving the Main Street Electrical parade pictures. So sad we missed it last time we were there - they're not doing it every day anymore. Booo :sad2: I wanted to see DH's reaction to it

So glad you weren't rained out.

Love your MSE parade pictures. I was smiling as I went through them, all the floats were so cute!

I'm all goosebumpy from your video!!! I LOVE that part! We got it on video too. :yay:

It is a wonderful parade, I personally like the music!! I didn't really notice the repetitiveness of it because the parade was so interactive with Alice and Pete talking to the crowd, the floats making noise/steam, etc. The "To Honor America" part made me tear up instantly. It was beautiful.

People were lining up at 7:00 for the 9pm parade  It must have been really crowded!

Glad you enjoyed the parade! We thought it was fun too :)

LOL, I love orange soda especially in WDW.

You should try those pretzels. They are so good! I never would've known about them if it weren't for Lady Lallie's TR a while ago.

I don't know what the rest of the park was like since we pretty much just waited for the parade the whole time. But there were a ton of people on Main Street.

Hmm, honestly I don't really have a preference. I enjoyed both parades. Too hard to choose!

I am pretty sure the soundtrack is the same, unless they made some reference to Disneyland in the video you watched. I think that was kind of the point of bringing it to WDW...I could be wrong though. Again, I liked both parades. I don't know which one I'd pick.

So they still have the MSEP, it's just not every night? I wonder when they will be going back to Spectromagic.

I am glad we weren't rained out and it didn't get cancelled! Turns out it was good we went that night just in case it would've been called.

I love when the lights go out. I remember seeing on one of those WDW Travel Channel shows they talk about Spectromagic and how a lot of people just gasp when they turn the lights off because it's such a big area that goes out all at once. I think that's kind of why it's so cool.

Glad I am not the only one who liked the music! I think it was cute!

Yeah, I don't know if it was because that was the last week they were going to do it (before they announced they were extending it) or what. But I wasn't expecting so many people to be waiting that early.

That's great that you got to see the parade after all. What a classic. :thumbsup2

Love all of the parade pics! I have a special place in my heart for the MSEP. First Disney parade I ever saw way back 30 years ago in Disneyland:goodvibes Gotta love it!

Love the MSEP! It is the only parade that my entire family has seen together, we saw it a couple of years ago when we went to DL. I enjoy the music too, it's fun and catchy, makes me smile :thumbsup2

Hi there! :wave2:
I just found your report, and I'm in! I know I'm late joining, but better late than never, right!?

Okay...I have to admit..your pics from Main St. has made me very "homesick" for the MK. :guilty:

All caught up!!! I agree with you about MSEP... Yes it was nice to see something else, but I say bring back Spectro now!!! :goodvibes

Love the dinner of orange soda and a cream cheese pretzel, that sounds great! Although I wasn't impressed by the cream cheese pretzel in May, I thought it would be so good after hearing about it here on the DISboards, but I didn't really like it when I tried it! :confused3

I love the MSEP pics! I can't wait to see it!

I know, right? I wish I was there now. :sad2:

LOL, I think it's funny how they still have the MSEP. I wonder when Spectro will come back.

Yeah, it wasn't exactly the most nutritious dinner but OH WELL! We were in Disney World after all. Bummer you didn't like the pretzel when you had it. It's funny because I was never really a fan of cream cheese but I loved those pretzels!

Oops, I meant to post this the other day (hence the "continued in next post" in my last update) but never got around to it since Dad and I went to order my new laptop which I am enjoying right now. It's kind of a short update to just finish up our evening at the MK.

Monday, August 9, 2010 cont'd (part 6)

After the MSEP we stuck around Main Street so we could see the fireworks show. To kill some time we just sort of wandered/browsed some of the shops. We didn’t buy anything but it’s always fun looking at all of the stuff they have.

Whenever we see the fireworks we always like to find a spot near the end of Main Street so it’s easier to get out/beat the crowds. We originally were by the train station but the flag pole would’ve been blocking our view like it did in April, so I suggested we go out in front of that. I couldn’t wait to see the fireworks display since I had read in my AP Mickey Monitor that it was the same show they did at the Pirate and Princess Party, which we went to a couple years ago. I just love how they synchronize the soundtrack to the fireworks. It’s amazing. And in all honesty, I might prefer those fireworks to Wishes—they are that good. Since Emma wasn’t with us on that trip, I was curious to see how she’d react to them.

Because the MSEP was delayed, the fireworks were also delayed a bit. But soon they lit up the Magic Kingdom sky. Again I’ll let the pictures do the talking though I apologize for the blurriness. I stink at taking nighttime/firework pictures so they really don’t do them justice!

Seeing the show again reminded me why I loved them so much at the Pirate and Princess Party. My favorite parts are when the couple of fairies from Sleeping Beauty are arguing over which color fireworks they should have (Pink! Blue! Pink! Blue!) and the castle/fireworks will alternate between those two colors, and also the pirate part where they play music from the POTC movie. We all agreed it was a great show.

So, with a successful first day, we said good-bye to the Magic Kingdom and headed back to SSR for some rest. We still had four days ahead of us!

Up next: A rootin’ tootin’ good time at Hollywood Studios
