As we all know, the nearer you leave things before you go, the Law of Murphy states they wont be available.

We leave for WDW in 3 months and need to know the following:

1) Suitcases and locks:

Where can you buy the special locks for your suitcases that allow security to open them?:goofy:

Where can you buy the straps to put around your suitcases to use the locks with?:mickeyjum

2) Animal Kingdom:

Is there a new map showing the location of Everest available anywhere?

:simba:

Many thanks in advance.

be carefull with the locks my tsa locks were broken off this year (even though they are the ones that the airport can open)

you can get disney straps off ebay, or most asda or tescos sell straps

Richard

I bought my TSA approved locks from Ebay, they were about £8.00 for 2 brand new. As long as they have the TSA logo on whch is a red diamond, you should have no problems. One of our suitcases was opened and a letter popped inside to say that they had opened it, but the locks were still in perfect condition and relocked.

You should also find straps on there as well.

I havent come across an up to date(featuring EE) Animal Kingdom park map yet, but will keep looking. :goodvibes

I've been 4 times and locked my suitcases both ways, and touch wood they have never been opened or searched.

We got TSA locks and luggage straps from the site listed above with no problems :)

On the AK maps we got in December the site of Everest is marked. You can get to Everest two ways:

1. From Dinoland USA.

Head to Discovery Island, turn right into Dinoland USA and follow the path round to the left as if going to the Tarzan Rocks theatre. Go past the theatre over the bridge and Everest is there on your right (entrance is straight on).

2. From Asia.

From Discovery Island head towards Asia. Keep to the right as you come into Asia and follow the river round until you get to Everest.

I bought my TSA locks from Homebase and they were only about £5 for two. :)

Get the TSA locks. 3 years ago I picked up my brand new Delsey at Gatwick and all the locks were broken and the case was held together with tape! There was a "nice" note inside explaining it was my fault for locking the suitcase. The first I knew about US security having the right to access of your luggage was when I went to the Virgin desk to report the damaged case and they then told me it was US policy. I asked why Virgin hadn't informed me in advance of this new travel policy, but they couldn't give me an answer. :furious:

Richard, this map has a note saying "Future Site of Expedition Everest" where the ride is - this should give you some idea of location and how to get there. :) Oh, and if you find the map is too small to read, open it in Paint or similar (Open MS Paint, select File > Open from the menu and paste the web address into the field).

Hope that helps,

Charlotte

Many thanks, I now have it printed at A3. pluto:

Although everywhere recommends TSA locks, I find it strange and annoying that people who use them are still getting damaged/broken cases and locks when they return home. :sad2: This must be laziness on the part of the person checking the cases!

We were actually told NOT to put any form of locks on our luggage back in December 2004, but having to go through 4 airports before seeing our cases again, we chose to ignore the recommendations and lock our valuable souvenirs safely away. :teeth:

My DSIL asked a customs guy at MCO if he would need her keys to open her cases when she handed them in. He smiled politely and said "No thanks, ma'am" and extended his arm. When DSIL reached out to shake his hand, he gave her one of her padlocks! He explained that he had used his "magic key" while they were chatting - she didn't even notice what he was doing!

The look on her face was priceless! :rotfl:

Got my TSA locking straps on order as well! :mickeyjum

Many thanks to all of you for your help. :thumbsup2

I'll be getting my order in for those TSA straps as well. :thumbsup2

However, another quick question. All my suitcases are Delsey and Samsonite. They have combination locks on them, so of course, I'll have to leave the combination on the "unlocked" number. How do you stop the dials from being accidently turned whilst they are being loaded/unloaded etc.? The last thing I'll want is my cases becoming locked whilst in transit, ,and then being broken open by US security. :confused3

We have 3 hard Delsey suitcases too, to be honest we always leave ours locked.
In the past whenever I have asked this at check-in the Virgin staff have always suggested we lock them.

That's a damn good question. How do you ensure your cases don't become accidently locked in transit?

We didn't lock ares or use any locks last time we only used luggage straps.
We had no problems, dont even think they were looked at.
Best thing to do is not to put anything in the case of value, all that was in mine was clothes.

Just a thought on this; would insulating tape over the combination wheels do the trick? :scratchin

I don't lock mine, just tie the up with the strap and a piece of string through the eyes of the zip. Mine are soft side so if anyone wants to get in them, they'll just slit them open.
