I see on the website it says to purchase and activate by 4/18. What exactly do they mean by activate?

We weren't planning on going until after the 18th, but I guess we could just stop by and "activate" if this is something you have to do in person...if it means an extra 3 months. Thank you!

activate = actually entering a park by scanning your AP at the entrance turnstile (TMs at the parking toll plaza also can do this, it's not publicly advertised but it saved me the parking fee on our first preferred AP visit.)

it also means your 12 months validity starts when you activate the pass.
if you didn't plan on visiting before 3 months, then the 3 months free is of no use. It may even shorten your AP validity
