3 month old in August Heat

I think how the trip would turn out would depend on how you go into it. If you look at Disney and think commando, then going with one that little wouldn't be easy. If you're prepared to concentrate on air conditioned places and take it easy, the heat shouldn't be much of a concern.

We are going at the end of August. :cool1: My DSil and DBil are meeting us. Their DD will be 4 mo old. princess: They have no concern bringing her with. They know we're planning on going at a slow pace and taking our cues from the kids.

I'm a major heat wimp and have a feeling that I'll be ready to get out of the heat before any one else. :p

Go with what feels comfortable to you. You know your child best and what they can handle.

We took our DD at 4 months of age in the august heat! We had a blast! That said, she has always traveled well and we went with realistic expectations. We nursed often to keep her hydrated, gave her extra water/juice from a bottle. If a line for an attraction was not inside or shaded, we skipped it! I didn't know about the clip on stroller fans at the time but I tied the carry strap of a handheld mister fan around the stroller tray and left it running all day. (Bring extra batteries!) We did not even go back to our resort midday. She slept fine reclined in her stroller with the fan on. Also, anytime I had the option I would travel through the giftshops to get to where I was going. You can walk the length of mainstreet in the airconditioning this way! Just use some common sense, may sure your child's needs are your number one priority and enjoy!

Oh yeah!!! 9 more days until our next WDW trip and yes! we are taking our now DD age 3 and our DS age 4 months!

:flower:

Another manageable way to handle it would be to only take her to parks after dark. Unless it is really late in August, the parks (esp. MK) should be open pretty late, so you should be able to take her to parks only once the sun is down or nearly so.

I see nothing wrong with taking a 3 month old to the parks in
Aug. Go to the parks in the morning, take a break and go back to the parks in the evening. I've taken my baby to the park at that age and in Aug. and had no problem with the heat. However, I'm from the south. If I was from the north I might have a big problem bringing a 3 month old out in the cold.

Actually, when we lived in Miami we did NOT take our kids outdoors until around 5pm because the sun is just so intense. All the parks were like ghost towns until sunset, then they came alive with children. It was like living in a vampire movie, haha. The worst sunburn I ever got was on the day after Christmas ( forgot to wear sunscreen!)

Parents get to decide whether to take their kids out in the heat and sun. I have on child who doesn't regulate his temperature well(he has brain damage.) He has suffered heat exhaustion several times, in spite of my best efforts. It's just not worth the risk, IMO>
Well you didn't live in my area of Miami because we have kids out at all times of the day and sometimes night. My kids didn't stay inside during the day. they were out playing, in the kiddie poo, over at the swimming pool, riding bikes. I took my youngest to Disney at 3 weeks in August. She was an August baby. She nursed on demand and I just made sure I kept well hydrated so she would be. We would go out in the morning take a break at lunch and chill in a sit down restaurant or go back to the cabin and nap and then go back out in time for the parade. No stroller. Just a Snuggli for her to ridde in.

yep -our ac is right about at 68!! it IS hot here...something all of us who live here have to deal with..........but once you get used to it..
nah.....there is no getting used ot it!!!
Nah, 68 degrees. I don't want to pay that kind of electric bills. Mine is set at 78 and I am perfectly fine. And you are better able to deal with the outside temperature when you don't have such a sharp contrast in temperature inside and out. Guess after 30 years here I am used to it.

I would personally try to wait until the baby was a little older. We took my DS to the beach in NJ for 3 hours when he was 3 months old and we tried to be so careful but he ended up with sunburn all over his face so bad that it blistered. We had one of those pop-up tents for babies but it got so hot we couldn't keep him in it so we sat with him under the umbrella. Apparently the reflective rays still got him. I still feel horrible to this day for allowing that to happen.

Also, there is a big difference between a 3 month old and a 6 or 7 month old as far as how they can regulate their body temps. Plus at 6 months they can wear sunscreen.

If you do decide to take your 3 month old, do NOT use your infant carseat/carrier in the parks. I saw quite a few people using them in the heat last year and those things just trap the heat in. They stay much cooler just laying in the stroller.

Good luck in whatever you decide!

I grew up in the heat & humidity of east Texas, of course people take their infants outside in the summer, but that is everyday life. There is a big difference between everyday life and a vacation in WDW! We were there last month and it was hot, we did not complain but I saw a lot of infants in strollers who seemed to be complaining! They were beet red and screaming, I am sure they were hot, tired and over stimulated. Not much fun for baby or baby's mom & dad! I think you can take a baby, but it needs to be a much slower paced trip. My doctor visits WDW at least 3 times a year and he will not take his grandchildren until they are at least 18 months old. He agrees that the heat is just too much for a baby - and he grew up in the Philippines!

I would and have taken a baby to WDW. My youngest son was 5 months old his first trip. It was Aug but it was Sept--equally as hot and humid. We made sure we had a stroller with a canopy to shade him. Put him in lightweight closes and clipped a small fan to the stroller that blew on him. I also nursed many times throughout the day.
There is a way to take infants to WDW in the hot times and still have a good time and be safe. Our trip was fun for our family because we were all there. I could not have gone, taken the other boys and left the baby at home.
We also took advantage of the babycare centers. A great place to nurse and cool off.
