I took me 3 hours to get home tonight - a 10 mile journey!!

I even left work at 4:30pm to beat the rush LOL

Thats terrible Tim:(

How will you get on getting back to work tomorrow?

Put it this way - I won't be in any rush to make it into work tomorrow, especially if it freezes tonight :smooth:

..sounds like my sort of day, Tim! I got in on time to find 2 other people hadn't rolled up and I had to do their appointments as well as my own!! Got very fed up by 400pm, so binned it and came home. I like snow at weekend when I can go stomping around the lake district in it, but I can't stand it when i've gotta wear a suit!

Bring on the rain!

poor you, Tim! Mark left work at 5 and was offered a lift...BIG mistake! Took them 45 minutes to just get off their estate, then another hour and half to get home..........he'd have been better off on the train I think!:(

OMG Tim!

Luckily I managed to get a train home last night with no real problem.

That's unusual on ANY day! - LOL

Well I played beat the blizzard and lost!! Arrived at the supermarket in the blizzard and took my time thinking that maybe it would stop - when it didn't I had to locate which mound of snow it was and then thought, I'd go and collect my sons rather than take the shopping home first.
Crawled along with everyone else, turned into the side road (which is a hill) where I'd be meeting the boys which was by now deep in snow burt worse than that ice too - saw a car stuck with hazards on and my only recourse was to keep going and get passed him rather than stop. That was the theory!

I got stuck on an icy speed bump..... what was worse was the car lost traction and started a gentle slide back ...... towards the car that was stuck  I was in horror ...... some of the boys from the school came straight down to me and pushed me up until the car would grip - BLESS THEM !

However, all I could do was get the car to the nearest parking bay and leave it :(

So the boys and I had to abandon the car and walk home - PLUS carry the shopping and their heavy schoolbags!!

How much snow did your area have? I'm thinking that you don't get too much each winter? I've been stuck in traffic jams before due to snow, but not for that many hours!!! How terrible that must have been.:earseek:

I'm originally from the South Wales Valleys and it seems that eventhough it snows there more often and deeper, the people are better at dealing with it.
I'm now living on the North Norfolk coast and on Wednesday, Norwich where I work was totally gridlocked. The only option I had was to walk the five miles to the Norwich airport Park & Ride and after clearing my car, drive home the remaining 20 miles.
Gritting lorries were held-up in the traffic and were not going anywhere.
The best part for me was going to McDonalds at the airport and buying a steaming hot drinking chocolate!!!

As I couldn't be certain of getting home yesterday, I didn't even bother trying to get into Norwich and played in the street with my two children whose schools were closed for the day.

......... I think this is why they deal with it better.

When you are in an area more used to these conditions, you are definitely better prepared for them. Perhaps they are more prepared to pay for the equipment/manpower to deal with it too - when it is only occasional, they aren't.

I'm near Stansted airport and we were hit with a very heavy blizzard and as fast as they were trying to clear it away it was replaced just as fast!

However, they have been donig a great job locally on the main roads but they never grit/salt any of the smaller roads.
