We drove to my brothers today and I still have 7 hours left LOL!

We did Mon-Wednesday at DL and Thursday at Knotts.

Stayed at Hojo's, walked to the parks (drove to Knotts).
We ate all over the place.

I have no desire to go back to knotts ever.

DH had a ball and wants to go back to DL in May:banana:

If anyone has any questions please ask. I'm working on our trip report.:dance3:

Please tell me about Knotts and why you were so disappointed/unhappy with your experience. We were considering spending a partial day there on our Dec. trip as they are doing "free" admission with a donation to Toys for Tots. It seemed like a good opportunity to check it out fairly inexpensively, but if it's a waste of time, I would like to know that as well.

Yeah, I'm curious to know what was so terrible about Knott's as well. I haven't been in......oh, I don't know....7 or 8 years! But back when we last went we enjoyed it.

Be fair warned that the Toys for Tots days are very crowded there. And the lines are huge! Its so bad that I don't even try to drive around that area it gets so crowded. If you go early and only hit a the kiddie areas it might be worth it. And the holiday area is always worth seeing. They do a whole craft faire and have Santa on hand for pics and such.

Really? We were already planning on going to Knott's on the 6th, after 2 days at DL. Then we heard about the Toys for Tots thing and thought...BONUS! But, will it be really bad now? Will it be a waste? My oldest daughter and my husband were really looking forward to the "bigger rides".

Go early and just be prepared for crowds. Decide which rides you really want to do and hit them first. There really isn't a lot of shows and such like DL, so you can just do all the rides. No parades either. I don't think it will be a total waste, just be prepared that it will be crowded.

We went in 2006 and vowed never again too. Its OK if you like the wild rides but the rest of the park was very run down when we were there. After Disneyland its a real disappointment, those rides that were similar to DL just weren't a patch on the DL versions in terms of theming etc.

We went to Knott's this past summer, and probably would never go again either. The rides are rough and short in length. Most rides are so extreme it really isn't very fun. There just isn't any charm.

I would recommend Universal over Knotts...it is more interesting to me.

How did you enjoy HoJo's? What building did you stay in? How comfy was the bed?

Glad you enjoyed your trip overall.

We will be there in less than 2 weeks! :cool1:

This thread seems to belong in the So CA theme parks forum now.

Corrections:
There is a Knott's Christmas parade, but it is short and features only a few small floats.

There is the Snoopy ice show for Christmas, 2 plays in the Birdcage Theatre, and other entertainment.

I have posted a photo thread in that theme parks forum that includes pictures of the park at Christmas time.

There is a link to a QuickTime movie on the Knott's site, but I can't get it to load.

Oh, and I hope people aren't talking about the Ghost Town when they say the park is "run down".
This is not a Disneyfied (read: phony) area - the buildings are authentic and well over 100 years old

Sorry it took me so long to reply, we were doing more traveling (now I'm only 4 hours from home LOL!)

Hojo's was awesome. We will stay there again for sure. Everyone we talked with that worked there was wonderful.
We ate at Pizza Port, Pacific Warf Cafe, Whitewater snacks, Captain Kidds (not recommended LOL!), Golden Horseshoe (MUST see the Billy Hill show!!)

As for knotts...prepare for my little rant LOL!

I grew up going to knotts. We've been going there for over 20 years. I used to LOVE it. Now it's just run down and gross. The bathrooms were like a truck stop (honestly, some of the truck stops we stopped at on our trip from Arizona were CLEANER than the bathrooms at Knott's). The rides are geared towards teens. Lots of coasters. My teenage siblings loved it. My kids are 5 and 2 and we had a lot of problems with rides. Camp snoopy only had 4 rides that my petite 2 YO could go on with me. There were some that she could go on by herself but she's 2. I wasn't going to send her on the airplanes without me thankyouverymuch. My 5 YO had a little bit better time. Unfortunately some of the height requirements were ridiculous and he wasn't able to go on many of the coasters (even the tame ones like Jaguar). He did get to go on Sierra sidewinder and he loved it.
The first person we ran into was the photographer at the Old west photos. Granted, we had a large group (13) but she was so cranky from the get go. And we were the FIRST group! We ran into several other not-so-nice employees and it really made the day sour.
It was dirty. There was garbage everywhere. I actually took a picture of a latex glove floating in the water on the calico mine ride. It was just gross.
The food was REALLY expensive. If you think that Disney food is pricey, Knott's was WORSE. $4 for a bottle of water, $8.75 for a funnel cake...

That night we got back and DH asked me to go back to Downtown Disney with him just to find some magic because Knott's truly was a bummer for us. I think it would be fine for teens/taller kids but my kids were bored.

We are taking DS7 who is a roller coaster nut for a day in January. I guess I will go with an open mind...:confused3

As long has he's tall enough it should be fine. Most of the height requirements are 46-48 inches.

He's 52 inches so I believe there will only be a couple rides he cannot go on. He likes Snoopy and the Peanuts too so I am hoping it will be a good trip. Legoland was fun for him but on the younger kids side so we don't want to go there again. I believe in January they are having a food drive and if you bring a can of food you get in for the kids price.

Your coaster rider should love KBF. My DD9 loves it and has since she was small. We only go to KBF during non-peak times and it's like having the park to ourselves. Jan., May, and Sept. are great times to go. We had AP but I let them lapse in May. I'm either going to renew this month or in May again.

A few of the rides are rough. We won't ride Ghost Rider or one of the others (can't remember name right now, I think it's Boomerang.) DD9 can't ride Excelerator yet, but I know she'll love it when she's tall enough. Once she rode Montezuma and Jaguar she loved those both. When she was smaller we would spend most of our time in CS. One day she did 26 rides. She still likes some of the rides there.

And, to me, it still has some of the quaintness-there's the train, stagecoach, log ride (one of the first), and Calico Mine Train. And Ghost Town is stil there inc. most of the cemetary.

Yes, it's not as clean as DL but as long as you go not expecting DL standards you won't be disappointed. Yes, they seem to take a long time to load some rides-especially the ones with only one worker. But if you are there when it's quiet, you'll get to ride all you want.

As for food, KBF is very expensive. And their drinks are out of this world (plus it's a Pepsi park, no Coke!) We bring in water bottles and Crystal lite tubes. You can also get glasses of ice water for free.

We get chicken from the To-go next to Mrs. Knott's. It's cheaper and it's the same chicken. Ask for it hot from the kitchen. A worker gave me this tip!

Better yet, eat at the Claim Jumper, nearby (expensive as well, but huge servings and very good) and there's a Fat Burger not too far away as well as a McDonalds.
