Hello all,

I'm planning a trip to take my Daughter and Grand Sons to Disney land and am interested in peoples opinions of the Meal Deals. Is it really a deal ? Are you limited in what you can eat or do you end up having to pay extra for the good food ?

Is the Meal Deal a good value ?

The main reason I get it is because I have the trip all pre-paid! The other thing I like is that the character meal vouchers include tip and taxes so there is nothing additional to pay for those. As for the regular vouchers, just remember you don't get any change back. If the meal is 37, just give 35 in vouchers and $2.00 cash. Hope this helps.

If you have AAA or APs, you get a discount at alot of the restaurants (including Character meals) so you will save money that way. The meal plan isn't like WDW where there is a real savings. At Dl, it's more of a convenience to prepurchase your meals

I (and many people on these boards) would not recommend the dining plan at DLR at all. The main reasons being:

a) It doesn't save you money. Most people who've experienced it break pretty close to even.

b) You don't get change back with the vouchers. So if something costs $4.95 and you pay with a $5 voucher, you lose 5 cents, no big deal. But if something costs $4.95 and you have already run out of $5 vouchers, you either need to pay with cash (which is the exact opposite point of using the dining plan) or pay with a $10 voucher and lose $5.05 (which can add up very quickly)

c) You can't use the vouchers at Downtown Disney restaurants, which is where there are a lot of good dining (counter service and table service) options.

Thanks for the input and advice. Since I'll be feeding 7 people I was researching options to save a couple bucks where I can.

My vote - NOT a deal, you have to totally watch it just to break even with what you've paid for the meal deal (i.e., you're paying for the highest priced meal at a certain time and if you don't get into that meal, then you actually LOSE money.) If you want to pre-plan get yourself Disney dollars or Disney cards from the Disney store or online. I wouldn't purchase this myself, ever, ever, ever.
