3 Changes Coming to DVC Rumor

I don't think there is anything new to report. These changes were announced weeks ago, just went into effect today.

http://dvcnews.com/index.php/dvc-pr...220/2794-price-increases-for-sold-out-resorts

The way I read the OP, there were three rumored changes, all regarding points cost. I thought increasing point sales price was one, and still rumored. Thanks for the link. Does the link confirm that these increases have occurred, or is it still speculation? I couldn't tell if this is from a Disney site. Are there 2 more points to be added? I was expecting some sort of announcement that D is taking more control over the resale market.

I would gladly pay double the current maintenance fees for pristine, like-new condition rooms.

Moreover, I think villas should be inspected upon arrival and departure. If your child draws numerous blue hearts in marker on a wall (i.e., Animal Kingdom Value Studio), then you should be billed for the paint job. Like the accent pillows on the couch? Great! Bill them to the room folio.

I would not want to pay double my MF. I just sent Disney over 2K and am glad it isn't 4K. I don't expect pristine, but yes, I agree the rooms should be inspected after each arrival and before. Even though it would take more staffing it would be well spent. And YES folks should be charged for damage, just as they are for smoking. But..that wouldn't bring about a better experience for the next guest for bigger infractions. Yes, hopefully they can get a wall clean before a new guest checks in, but to repaint a wall? I'd think the room would need to be put out of service for at least a day, and if you have several rooms down and out and a fully booked resort, who gets booted and to where? It's a fine line all around, and usually Disney juggles it well, but the massive amount of rooms are going to lead to some hic-cups along the way. I DO expect things to be fixed in a timely manner, but it also has to fit into scheduling and guest traffic.

Holy cow. My resort, VGC, is at $170 a point, I can actually resale for quite a lot more than I paid originally. Not that I will.

As someone with experience in the paint retail world, a wall can be repainted in 4 hours, and not have anyone ever know. There are plenty of odorless, zero VOC paints on the market today that are dry in an hour. It would be tight, but it is doable. I do not think it should be the default action by any means, a magic eraser would be a first choice! Just saying it can be done if need be.

The link is from DVC News. While not an "official" Disney/DVC site it is as close to being accurate as you can get. Back when these raises in costs were announced people started calling their guides to get on waitlists and were told that they would not honor the old price past Jan 6, 2015. Believe it when it says these prices are official now. Have no clue about the other 2 changes, maybe those were in fact only rumors.

The only way for Disney to take control of the resale market is to ROFR every contract and they just are not going to do that.

Well, sure, a wall could be painted and new guests in at under 4 hours, but really, you'd have to have a staff person all ready to go, paint match on hand(that would still match porperly and not make one wall look a different color from others walls having faded, cleaned too often, etc.), the furniture would need to be moved, floor coverings put down, maybe windows taped, etc., and then still have time for the regular room cleaning to be done. Sure, it's possible, but logistically, especially if on any given day even a small percentage of rooms needed extra attention of some sort, that could still be an issue getting the next guest checked in in a timely fashion. Yes, Magic Eraser type of product would be great...I don't know if they use that..and I agree...housekeeping really SHOULD do a better job and rooms should be inspected much better before and after each guest, but having a merry crew able to zip to any room with a quick fix in a short period of time can be much more difficult than it sounds
I believe that Disney is truly wanting to keep the guests happy, within parameters of what can be done, but we can't know their priorities or how other things can impact what they would ideally like to do. If a union is involved that can also have an effect, and in any huge company there are odd ball rules in place almost impossible to get over, and managers have to often their pick their fights. Until we know the behind the scenes workings, we can't say "well, it would be simple to just do this..." sure it would, but things aren't always simple through a thousand layers of big business.

I'm laughing really hard right now. I cannot imagine any Disney resort hotel wall being cleaned so often as to change the paint color!

Enforce standards and policies, stop letting housekeeping leave 45 min early with pay just because the finished their section. Problem is it's a union shop and changing the contract can be difficult.

:earsboy: Bill
Not sure what a union has to do with poorly kept rooms. I think its more likely management that is not doing a good job of leading it's employees. Besides, it's not like they are overpaid union workers:

Once ratified, starting wages will raise to $9 an hour.

They'll go up to $9.50 an hour in 2015, and $10 an hour in 2016.

We had white tile in our last villa. I wonder what color it used to be?

I did not say anything about changing a paint color. Paint fades, and constant cleaning wears it away enough where if you paint some of an original color over a wall painted a year or two ago it will not match. Try it.

I also did not say unions have anything to do with a poorly cleaned room. I said unions may affect how scheduling can be done. I worked as a manager in a union shop and I can tell you it can add to the time it takes and the time needed to get things done.

My only point, which folks always love to ignore, is that we all want things nice and so many think it's a simple fix, but unless you see it form the other side, you have no clue, so give those in charge a break.
