When my DH saw the new 'free' dining plan today in an email he had me call and book our family for 6 nights, 6 days, the end of Sept. We have only been to Disney once (as a young married couple, no kids) and are now going to go with our DD who is 3 (will turn 3 August) and a baby who will be around 3 months old. (I am due in the next week and a half). How nuts will it be to do this? We have already booked in All Star Movies with Park hopper and Magic plus options.
What is Disney like with a young baby? I will be breastfeeding the baby and honestly can't remember how much they feed at that age, although I seem to recall that is the age where she only just started sleeping for more than 3 hours at a time! Plus it is a nine hour drive to Disney for us (with out kids!). We have until Aug 11th to make up our minds and cancel without penalty.
I would love love to go and take my 3 yo. She is a HUGE Disney fan! Loves Toy Story and Hercules and the Princesses. We had planned on going a couple of months later in Januaryish because the baby would be older and on solid food sometimes and I wouldn't mind some formula at that age. But not at only 3 months old...
Any thoughts, comments or suggestions welcome!
How hot is it at the end of Sept? (25th to Oct 1st)
Thanks!

Hi sandy... the first time we took the kids DS#1 was 2years and DS#2 was 4 months.. we were very low keyed that trip, brought our own stroller, spend a lot of time in Fantasyland. Discovered the Baby station near Crystal Palace . It was cool inside, the ladies there were very nice, nice changing table and rocking chairs. We got there early, left went they started to melt, stayed on site , so we took the bus and carried sleeping kids back to the resort, everyone napped and then the older one went to the pool. We went back to the parks when it was cooler..

We had a great time..

We'll be taking a 2-month old in December, so if you're nuts, so am I! :) I think it may be easier to take a baby who is solely nursing--you don't have to worry about bringing in baby food--you can feed on demand almost anywhere you can find a quiet place to sit. I'd suggest bringing your own stroller for the baby as well as a snugli-type carrier or sling. I'm planning to carry our baby in a sling most of the time but will have our stroller along as well. Heck, at this point I can nurse the baby in the sling while waiting in line for a ride! I bet you will have a great time!

Are you nuts? Yes. Would I do the same thing? Yes.

There is nothing wrong with a hint of insanity - I think that is part of what pushes Disney-philes!

Congratulations! I am due June 18th...and yes...I am nuts too. (Is this like an aaa meeting? :rotfl2: )

We are taking our ds (who will turn 5 down there) and the little one (who will be 4mths old) in October.

Feel free to PM me or post a report after you return. I would love some pointers. I am planning on bringing a stroller/carrier for the baby ( do I need a carrier at that age...I forget) and a baby bjorn. I am debating what to do with my older child who prefers a stroller when down at Disney. I may throw an extra one along...what's one more checked item on a plane when you've already overpacked???

Best wishes and I would say go for it!

My thoughts exactly! :rotfl:

do it! there's never an easier time to go - no sippy cups, no baby food, etc! and they are SO portable :flower:

We did it with a 4, 19 month, and 2 month old. We also drove from Ohio. Took us a little longer than normal but we made it. And I agree with the poster who said that they just were lower keyed. We had a great time. And there are lots of places to breast feed at Disney. I took my front carrier, as well as the stroller. I would do it all over again. So have a great time!

we went with a 7 week old, 5 year old & 7 year old....then we went we again this past year when they were 15months, 5 & 8; and 18months, 6 & 8....it was easy all 3 times...but much easier when the baby was really tiny!! have fun.

My now 8 yr old dd's first trip was at 3 months....we also had a 3yr old, 4yr old and 5 yr old in tow....

It's a great time to go with an infant. I have great memories about that trip with her at that age. She really loved to watch the Shows, espeically the ones with bright colors and shapes and movments....

I think bringing a 3 month old is actually easier than a 2 1/2 year old Stitch (nick name for my Son the monster).

Have fun, wouldn't mind switching for 5 seconds!!!!

My initial thought is YIKES! On our visit to WDW last month, I saw a lot of babies in strollers, carriers, etc. and thought "Wow -- I don't think I could do that w/a baby!" (remembering back to when DS8 was small). But, you know what? I started to think that Daxx and I dragged baby DS all over the place, to the mall, on other vacations ... so what's the difference between schlepping him to the mall, to NYC,Washington, DC or England and schlepping him to WDW, right?! lol!

It seems like a lot of work ... but by this point, you're used to the "work". You're used to the routine. I say go for it ... have fun and enjoy. I'd take it on the easier side and take my time, but that's just me.

Have a ball! Warmly, Daxx's Wife

Thanks to everyone who replied! I appreciate it! I think we are nuts in the first place for taking kids to Disney. When DH and I went solo (life before kids) we said we would never ever take young children there because we saw so many unhappy kids! I am sure there were lots of happy ones but we noticed the crying tired ones!
I can't wait to take DD (who will be 3 then). We took her on a Disney cruise at 20 months old and she loved it. I know she will have a good time in Disney too.
We really plan on taking it easy. We have 6 nights and don't think Animal Kingdom, or Epcot will take long from our past experience there. That leaves a few mornings for Magic Kingdom and afternoons for waterparks and pool!!
Plus the more I thought about it, the easier I figure it will be with DD3.5 mo because she will more likely to sleep in her car seat carrier in the stroller than she would even at 6 months old!
Thanks!

We went for a short trip with my ds was 3 and my dd was 3.5 months as well. It was great. It was easy with the baby. My dh or I would stay out with her in the shade if she was napping. She went on lots of rides with us...including Buzz.

GO FOR IT !! I took my 2 1/2 yr old and my 3 month old...we had a great time! My son has been 5x's and my daughter 2x's.They are 3 and 8 months. Just remember you can stop your life or just keep smiling and keep going :) :) :) :) :)

Hi,
We went last year Aug 27 - Sept 3. My DD was 3 1/2 and my other DD was 4 months. We stayed on the grounds at the old key west. The one problem we faced was everytime we would leave the parks, both kids would fall asleep and we were stuck carrying strollers, bags and babies. Everyone on the bus had to pitch in and help us and it became such a problem that we decided our last few days that it was easier to drive to the parks then take the bus, which I recommend b/c with the heat and activities your children will be exhausted after you leave.
Since you are breastfeeding, you won't have to pack bottles and formula like we did so it might be easier for you then us. Overall it wasn't a problem once we got in the park itself.
We are going again this year, the same week you are :). We are staying at pop century though. Now my kids will be 4 1/2 and 1 1/2 so it should be a little easier for us, not to mention we will have 30 family members with us so someone should help this time on the bus :).....

Have Fun,
