3/4's of nations schools now starting before Sept

My kids start school this year on August 29th (so we are going to WDW 8/25-8/28 ). That's actually kind of a late start for the kids, it's usually about a week earlier. Then they get out of school at the beginning of June. A friend of mine is a Chicago Public School teacher and they increased the hours of the school days for them this past year, it ended up being about a week extra of school for the year. They go until mid June and start the day after Labor Day. On Labor Day they have the "Bud Billican (sp?) Parade" which is a "going back to school" tradition in Chicago. I think most of the suburban schools start earlier and finish earlier than Chicago Public Schools do.

NC is also a required 180 days

My kids start Aug. 25th and still don't get out till June 7th. There is also no week break in the fall. That would be real nice to have a full week off in Oct.

We're in NC and they require the 180 days.

Re. the Wisconsin law, I beleive it states that schools cannot start until Sept. 1, not after Labor Day. I teach and having the first and second week both partial weeks makes for a nice tranistion back into school. We have no air conditioning and August can get HOT!
