I got some of those tiny yogurt drink bottles, they are 3.1 oz. Do you think the kids can each bring one through security in their baggie? I was going to bring breakfast stuff so they could eat while we are waiting for our plane.

Thanks!

Declare larger liquids. Medications, baby formula and food, and breast milk are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint.

this was taken off the tsa website
But hopefully someone with some experience will be able to give you a response to your question.

3.1 ounces is less than the 100 mL that is allowed, as I understand it.

Not sure about the size of the container (I grew up in metric), but each passenger does get their own baggie.

I doubt that the yogurt bottles will fall into that catagory, but.....you may very well be able to get away with the 3.1 oz. I 'think' that the guideline is 100ml...which equates to a bit more than our 3 oz measurement. I think we use the 3oz because that's what our small, travel size stuff is.

You can bring up to 3.4oz.

Most of the rest of the world uses metric and the limit is 100mL which equates to about 3.4oz (okay, it is technically something like 3.381oz), so you can bring a bottle up to 3.4oz.

3-1-1 sounds better than 3.4-1-1, so that is why the TSA uses 3-1-1 even though the actual limit is 3.4oz, not 3.0oz.

Stick the yogurt in your kids' baggies and all is good.

ETA - it wouldn't fall under the baby food exception as it is not baby food/juice.

My 4 fl. oz.(118L) bottle of contact solution says "TSA Compliant" right on the front.

I really don't know why I felt the need to post this, but I just thought it was odd. TSA's all worried about 'how many ounces' a bottle has, but how do they know it really contains contact solution and not something flammable?

That's because contact lens fluid falls under the exemption for medications and can be taken through security in containers larger than 3 oz. (or 3.381 oz. :) ). In fact, a 16 oz. bottle of contact solution technically would be TSA compliant, I suppose. Please note that your contact lens solution and any medications in containers larger than 3 oz. should NOT be put in your 3-1-1 bag *(although putting it in a bag in case of leakage is a good idea) and you should notify the TSA screeners that you have it in your carry-bag. They will tell you if you should take it out for screening (most likely) or not, so have it someplace where it is easily accessible.

And, no, there's no way for them to know what the bottle contains and they rarely, if ever, actually check.

Whereas I think it's because most U.S.-born residents don't understand the metric system :umbrella:
