My post about the lysol got me thinking..... I know the general rule of the 3-1-1 rule.... but what I want to be sure I am interpreting correctly.... each traveler in our party can have 1 baggie of liquids/gels each correct ??.... so for us 2 adults, 2 kids and me carrying the one and only carry on bag...I have 2 of the 1qt bags with liquids/gels in them. One is a bag w/ some of my medications and things like neosporin and saline...then I have another baggie with my daughters liquid medications and inhaler and the purell bottles in it. This will pass security rules right?

your link isnt working :(
interesting about the gel inserts in shoes...never would have thought about those, but no issue here we dont have any. I have very benign stuff and most prescribed medications and hygiene items. thanks.

Just FYI, hand sanitizer counts as a toiletry, not a medication; it needs to be in the 3-1-1 baggie.

You can carry all of the baggies for the entire party if you want to. You will need to remove them from your carryon at security and place them in a plastic bin for scanning; we put ours on top of our shoes to save bins.
If one person is carrying all of the bags for a party, it is best to put a name on each baggie; that clues in TSA that you are not one passenger trying to carry four 3-1-1 baggies for yourself. (If you don't put names on the baggies you may be held up while they determine who all the extra baggies belong to.)

And remember that there is a size limit on the baggies. They cannot be larger than 1 qt. I have seen some TSA peeps let gallons go, but just as many get yelled at (and I've been on mostly international flights lately, so I probably see more mistakes with the liquids rule than most people - there are still people trying to fly with "make-up cases" where everything is full sized and nothing is in a baggie...).

The medications and inhaler do NOT have to be in the 311 bag! They are separate. Sure you might want to keep them in a quart sized zip-top bag, but they aren't part of the normal 311 thing. (and actually it's 3.4-1-1, LOL)

Medications are separate, there's a whole medicine section on the tsa site. you do need to bring them out and declare them, but if you need more room for 100 ml bottles of conditioner and whatnot, you'll have one quart sized zip top bag for each ticketed passenger, along with the medicines.

I can't get into the TSA site right now, guess it's being used quite a bit, but go there once it's available and check out the section for medicines.

Anyone know if there is a rule against play-doh? I can't find anything on the TSA website, but last time we flew, they took DD's unopened, still in the plastic wrapped package play-doh away. Just wondering if this is the policy or if they were being overly cautious. Thanks!

Play-doh has a very unfortunate resemblance to plastic explosive in appearance. It isn't specifically banned, but most TSO's will consider it a gel and take it under that rule. (It also is oily and has a strong odor that is unpleasant on a plane, so it's best avoided, anyway.)
