I know it keeps getting harder to get a site at FW. Well I started thinking I grew up vacationing at FW with my parents. Now me and the DW take our own 5er but my parents are still in a site close by in there TT. So now about the same amount of people are there but its 2 trailers. So I was wondering if anyone else was 2nd Generation friend of the fort.:confused3

We are 2nd genners at the Fort! I went there with my folks as a kid, and now we go there. For Thanksgiving this past year, we were there and my parents were in the site next to us. So, I guess we are contributing to the site deficiency!

BTW - this is my first post! I've been hanging around the neighborhood for a while though. FW sure is awesome...nice to see more people that love it like we do. It's our favorite place to camp. Just wish it wasn't 720 miles away!

we too are 2nd generation. Spent many years going done about 4 times a year. Met many friends as kids. FW really feels like a home to me, so much that I fell confident and safe there with my kids. I don't mind sending them to the trading post or arcade alone (they know the rules about strangers and the "buddy system"). DH and I took 9 kids (our 4 kids plus some of their friends) last 4th of July and had a blast. Trying hard to make sure it holds memories of family bonding for our kids by going as often as we can. We must be doing something right because even the teenage girl loves roughing it.

We are also 2 gen, but when I was little and went to FW my grandparents were also there so even back then we were a 2 site family. My grandparents with Aunt, Uncle and 2 cousins in their motorhome and my family in a slightly smaller motorhome. Now it is my family in our TT and my parents(and occasionaly DB and DSIL) in their 5th wheel.

We are too. I went once as a teen with my parents and got the bug. They however no longer camp. They are cruisers in their old age.

Me too! I went the first time with my parents when my son was 4. Know we have our 5er and my son is 21. He still comes ever once in awhile so that would be 3 gen. We are annual passholders so we all still go twice a year. Its the family memories that keeps me going back!

Howdy and welcome!:cheer2: pixiedust: :wave2:

Oh my we are almost to the 3rd generation. My parents, us and now the kids. DS talks about getting a small pop up. One of these days it will be three, but I think the prospect of sharing a site with his tent and saving money is more important to him right now. :goodvibes

Thanks CottontailCurl! Sure is a friendly and fun site! Have learned a lot, and it helps pass the time when we can't be at the Fort. Wish I was there right now...:sad1:

I think we all wish we were there right now. Once you start posting here its hard to stop.

I also traveled to the Fort as child. We went almost every spring. Sometimes my grandparents would be there too, so like Maggie, my kids are 4th generation. My parents still come down to FW with us sometimes. I love showing the kids all the things I used to do "back in the day".

Our DS, DDIL, and GD will be camping next to us in their Hybrid this April. They were next to us last year, too. Our other DS and his GF will be staying with us this trip, too.

Lone-Star can I high-jack your thread for just a minute and ask you if your FW site 211 and 210 were close to the marina ? Also whenever you stayed there was it a pet loop ? Thanks alot ! popcorn::

I camped at FW with my parent as a kid. We had a pop-up, that is until they sold it. My Mom still regrets it because they never replaced it. We just had our first FW trip with our 5 kids in December. I guess that makes them 3rd generation also. I am hooked but...We were supposed to be there with our pop-up but it didn't make the trip. It broke down in SC and we ended up with a late night run to Wal-Mart after our 2 night to get another tent. We ended up with 2 large tents and no camper. My DH has a sour taste in his mouth now after that experience and really doesn't want another camper. We still can use it but not for long trips.

I guess I would be a 2nd generation, but we actually skipped a generation. I used to go to FW with my grandparents and uncle (who is 4 years older than me and acts more like a brother than an uncle). We started out with a pop up, then TT and then MH. My uncle is very similar, however, doesn't go to FW like we do all the time. He takes his boys to the parks to go on their ATV's. I would rather be on my golf cart in FW. :thumbsup2

I am the first generation of Disney person, my boys will undoubtedly be the second generation. We have made more than 20 trips to WDW since 93, I cant see them not sharing that with their families when they get older.

The 200 loop is close to the marina the only one closer is the 100 loop.
If your trying to get closes to the marina in the 200 loop ask to be close to the comfort station. In the 100 loop ask to be close to the path that comes out by the Settlement trading post which will be farthest from the comfort station. It was not a pet loop.

Sorry to here about your camper. I have wondered what I would do if something happened to the truck or trailer. Hope ya'll still had a good trip.

I'm sorry to hear about the camper too. I helped a man from Quebec last week for about 2 hours changing lug bolts and studs that broke off his camper here in Jax. He was walking down 95 pushing the tire when I got to him. His DW was at the trailer. I got him to a Cracker Barrel and we took the drum off and went to NAPA and found all the parts he needed. He tried giving me $300 after putting all his stuff back together and said I saved his life lol. I told him to stop for me if he sees me one day and had to run from him as he's trying to pay me. BTW, he explained he had a flat the night before and put the lugs back on with an electric impact. The lugs came loose and it looked like somebody torched his rim where the studs wrung the rim to what looked like molten lava. I've never seen a rim quite that messed up. So the moral is check those lugs with a torque wrench every couple trips and don't use a cheap impact to tighten your lugs.

That was very nice of you to help the eway you did. You get a medal for the day:thumbsup2

I didn't understand half of what you just said, I hate the mechanics of things and my DH is no handy man either. I have spent the last 6 months prior to our trip getting the camper in shape. It was given to us from a friend of a friend who didn't want it in his driveway anymore. It took many hours of cleaning to get the canvas decent. The inside was brand new. I had it serviced with new tires, took it to a local camper sales and service place and had it all checked out. Well about 30 miles from the GA line, smoke was coming from one of the tires. Long story short got it to a garage and the guy said he needed to build a new axil or a spindel but couldn't get it done until Monday. Being that it was Saturday and we had reservations for that night, we opted to empty it and go with out. We still had our tent and everything to sleep in. We only forgot one of the air mattresses and our cook top. After Disney and some $500 repair we had to tow the darn thing home. They had to rebuild a spindel. The axil would have been closer to $1000 he said. We still had a great time. I wish we could have relaxed a little more, but we had to worry the whole time how much it was going to cost us.:headache:
