The Cavness second annual Anniversary trip. Day 5.
Cast of Characters:
Me Father of 2 just got a job so Im happy again.
DW Mother of 2 DH just got a job so shes happy again.
Tuesday Morning:
Today we decided to try out Spoodles for Breakfast. We had heard a bit about it but had never eaten there for Breakfast. It was very good though very filling. I think my bagel and cream cheese probably worked better but Im glad we did it.
After breakfast we headed to Epcot. We were lucky to catch a boat just as it was about to leave so we sat in comfort. As we pulled into Epcot the boat captain made an announcement. He said he was going to do a 180 in the boat and the G-forces may get to be a bit much so everybody better hang on. He made a big deal out of it and had everybody in stitches by the time he landed the boat. Everyone cheered after he tied up. I wish I had brought my camcorder that day his speech would have been a fun memory.
The lady at the turnstile had The Absent Minded Professor on her name-pin. For those of you who dont know, in September all the CMs name pins were replaced. Each CM had to choose a favorite first Disney memory to put on their pin. Most are pretty predictable, Space Mountain or Mickey Mouse. This was the first time I had seen The Absent Minded Professor so I asked her about it. She said that her boss made her put that on her pin because she resembled the movie in being absent minded. It was pretty funny the way she told the story.
We got fastpasses for Test Track then rode Spaceship Earth. At the art store we met a fellow Minnesotan. She had worked in Florida for a year and a half though her husband was still living in Minnesota. Once he is finished with his contract they are going to sell their house and move to Florida. Funny thing is that they live about 15 minutes from us. It really is a small world.
We stopped at the UK pavillion to buy my mother a Mothers day gift and talked to the CM there who told us he had made the decision to work at Walt Disney World when he was 9. At that time his family had made a trip to WDW and he fell in love with the place. He is now working in the college program and is having a great time.
We rode Ellens Energy Adventure the first time we had done that in many years, then rode Test Track. Strangely, our car started moving before we had all buckled in. It was kind of startling but a very fun ride.
On the way out of the park we walked into a gift store. The CM was talking to another couple about the heat it was another hot day. I teased her that the heat shouldnt bother a local. She told me she was actually from Rhode Island and I settled down for another store. Apparantly this CM made the decision to move to Florida when she was 10. She had a bad case of frostbite and had to spend several days in the hospital. After getting out of the hospital she packed her bags and headed south. Obviously her father caught her and picked her up in the car. He asked her where she was going. Florida. He asked her who was paying, she said you are. He said Wrong. He told her that she could move to Florida under two conditions: 1. She must be of age, 2. She had to pay for it herself. She agreed. She told me she is now of age and has paid for it herself so she now lives in Florida. What a great story.
On the way out of Epcot we stopped in the UK pavillion to eat fish-n-chips. Without the extra water this time.
We went back to our room and took a nap. The first time we had done that all week. After our nap we ate dinner on the boardwalk, then changed and sat in the hot-tub.
In the hot tub we met a man who was an ex-New Jersey contractor living in New Orleans. He hated his work in New Jersey, he said it was too stressful but loves living in New Orleans. He works for the school district there, loves his summers off and all the other time off he gets. Time is definitely worth more than money. He has a 5 year old daughter and two sons. 26 and 28. They are both studying to be in the medical field. He has told them both that when they get married they have a choice of two gifts: a punch bowl or a trip to Disney World. Which would you choose?
After he left, we met a nice lady from Boston. This was her first trip since the 9/11 tragedy so obviously we talked about that. And she told some stories. Apparantly, her sister had taken a flight from Chicago to California. As the plane took off she fell asleep. When she woke up she discovered that the man sitting next to her a middle eastern looking guy had eaten her dinner in addition to his. She was really mad about this but didnt want to cause a problem so she just ignored it. After 9/11 she thought she recognized the guy when she saw pictures of the hijackers on tv. She called the FBI and sure enough, after checking the records they found that she had in fact sat next to one of the hijackers on her flight to California.
Back in the hot tub, our new friend from Boston told us that she knows 3 different people who were supposed to be on the plane that crashed on 9/11. All of them got caught in Boston rush hour traffic and didnt make their flights. It is very strange how the world turns.
After two hours in the hot tub we figured our fingers had pruned enough so we changed and went into JellyRolls where we spent the rest of the evening until 1:30AM. We left there and walked along the now quiet boardwalk with the absolutely still water behind the rail. So warm and so peaceful. Tomorrow we would have to go back to cold yucky Minneapolis.
