If I booked a 2 BR lockoff for 7 nights, and a 1BR for an eighth (at the end) night, what are the chances we could just check out of the studio portion of our 2 BR lockoff after the 7th night, and keep the 1 BR for the next? As opposed to checking out of the unit entirely and moving to a new 1BR? This is a points issue -- not enough for full stay in 2BR lockoff. If it matters, it's at BLT.

I tried to do this very thing last jan. @ the boardwalk. Through several phone calls to MS and the boardwalk what I was finally told was that the person that assigns the rooms gets the dvc ressies 10 days prior to check in. I called and spoke directly with him on what I had hoped to do. Also MS noted on the ressie that I wanted to try to stay in the same room. Through my experience, it is possible for it to happen but I think it also depends on the time of the year as well. If they are fully booked then it would be harder to do. I would just expect to move but hope that you dont. Good luck.

It doesn't always work even if you request it early (especially if they are close to capacity). It never hurts to ask! Here's some pixie dust!

Make sure you request a lockoff two bedroom villa and not a dedicated. Have the noted added to your reservation. Then when you check in, see if you are blocked into the same one bedroom portion. They should be able to tell you right then.

I'm still in the planning stage -- picking between a 1 BR for the entire 8 nights or a 2BR for the first 7 nights and 1 BR for the last. If there is any risk that we *won't* be able to simply check out of the studio portion of the 2BR for that last night, we won't do it. It would be a huge inconvenience to pack up all our stuff just to move rooms for one night. I have three kids under 10, and we have a tendency to "fill all available space" in our rooms, especially after a week.

I think what I'm hearing is that there is some risk. We are looking at checking in on Saturday of memorial weekend, so while it may not be the most crowded (DVC) time of the year, point values are still lower than in the summer, so I would expect that time of the year to be somewhat more popular.

We stayed in a 1BR this year for the same trip, and it was fine -- kids still small enough to deal with sleeping on all the pullouts (and to fight over who slept on the fold out chair). We were toying with the idea of reserving the 2BR purely to spoil ourselves, but since we don't need it, we probably won't if it can't be guaranteed that we wouldn't have to move.
