Do you remember where you were or what you were doing when John Lennon was killed?
I was sewing and heard it over the radio and remember being totally shocked.

I was a teenager in bed asleep when my mom came in and woke me to tell me the news. I remember it like it happened last night.

Remember like it was yesterday, DD was a newborn and I always kept the radio on in the room for noise to try and get her to sleep better, heard Tony Pig (remember him?) on PLJ, make the annoucement. I woke my husband up. DJ was so distraugh, I'll never forget it. Horrible loss.

Absolutely. I had my first job. Worked the 3-11 shift. Had been listening to a Jim Morrison special on the way home from work (it's his birthday) and continued to do so when I got home.

When the radio announcer made the first announcement, my first reaction was to think, "leave him alone already...I'm so sick and tired of Beatles rumors!!!"

Then of course, minutes later it came through. No rumor. John Lennon. Murdered. :(

I was only 8, so I didn't really grasp it at the time. However, I do remember what I did that day. I fell while playing outside and got a big gash on my face. I spent the day getting 12 stitches. My mom had a rough day.

When I heard it on the radio, my first thought (before I heard who the victim was) was that the President had been assassinated.

agnes!

I was in college. This was in the days before everyone having a tv and certainly before the days of the personal computer and internet. So all we had was the radio and a bunch of us were hanging out with the radio on and the DJ broke in to say that he'd been shot. We were all shocked and then we immediately thought, "CATHY!" -- a friend of ours who was a total John Lennon fan. We knew she was studying and had the radio off and wouldn't know, so we ran down the hall to tell her.

She didn't believe us and turned on the radio and the first thing we heard was the song, "Imagine." And then she believed us.

I was only 2, so I don't remember it at all but my mom has said that it was the first real celebrity death that made an impact on her.

I was listening to the radio while working in the darkroom in high school.

I was 8, in third grade. I remember my teacher telling us and crying. I don't think I knew who he was.

I was roughly 5 months old. Probably sleeping, crawling, or eating.

Actually the news broke that he had been shot and then died between 11 pm and midnight on December 8, 1980.....why do I remember it so vividly because it was my Dad's birthday and I was up at Towson State University where I was a junior....my roommate and I had a habit of watching "I Love Lucy" reruns on a local station at that time and I remember them breaking in with a special report....I can remember walking down the hall to where my roommate was hanging out playing Boggle and telling her but she already knew because they had the tv on also.....I remember at the time I wasn't obsessed with the Beatles however after he died I started collecting their albums and then their cds....Our school did a special showing of "HELP" on the next weekend and I remember going to watch it....so I definitely remember where I was.

I was a freshman in college. I flipped on the radio and heard a DJ talking about the Dakota, where John Lennon lived, and I knew something terrible had happened. It took a few moments more before they repeated that he had died. It was so shocking.

I was home lying on my sofa. I had bronchitis. I was extremely upset hearing the news. The Beatles were a huge part of my teen years.

I was in 6th grade, and was not into music that much. The day he died did not impact me. What I remember is the day after. I was in the office of the school picking up my lunch card, and the amount of kids coming in with absentee notes floored me. My 12yo brain could not comprehend why a parent would let a kid stay home from school because somebody we didn't know personally was killed.:confused3

I was a freshman in college...love the Beatles, was crushed.:sad2: I remember thinking what kind of animal just decides to shoot someone, and seeing Yoko Ono images...and grief. Just confusion an grief. My Dorm was in a daze, at least my floor was, I do remember that.

I don't remember what I was doing but I remember how I felt. I felt horrified and it seemed surreal that someone could just blow a stranger away like that.
