$274 ? Reasonable for Aug. week/full size rental/National

Just got a quote from National...using Carlson and WWEB product code....

$274 for Aug. 21-28 (early flight on 21 and late flight on 28 so it will be a 8 day rental)

This is for a full size car..is this reasonable? Should I book or will better codes come out closer?

Or...other companies to try?

That's really high. I just paid $119 for an intermediate, priceless vacation code, free day coupon, 7 days. A full size was about $10 more. I would keep checking. It will probably drop, mine was $198 when I first checked in February. I cancelled reservations 4 times when the prices dropped.

what is the priceless code......everyone mentions it but I can't find it....are you using national and when are you going?

Also..what is the difference between full and intermiediate.

I'm going the same time frame of August 21, 10:00a thru August 27, 4:30p. Considered 7 days. I'm also having a really hard time getting the rate down compared to others here on the DIS.

My total is $184.10 TOTAL for an Intermediate on the EA. I'm using the Carlson Code with a $20 coupon.

I just tried your dates with arrival at 9:00a on the 21st and departing the 28th at 5:00p using Carlson code and $20 Entertainment coupon (no WWEB) for an Intermediate and got $214.14 total. The Full size came to $251.56 total.

Are you an Emerald Club member? If so, that's a benefit of staying with National...bypassing the counter!

I'd book because you can always re-book and cancel if the rate goes down over and over till you get the rate you are happy with!

For National, full size is Pontiac Grand Prix, Chevy Malibu, Toyota Camry, etc. Intermediate is Pontiac Grand Am, Toyota Corolla, Mitubishi Galant, etc.

Last month they had several Aztrecs in the full size aisle as well. These have a lot of luggage space. We took a Grand Prix, but regretted not taking the Aztec later. (4 women=lots of luggage)

They no longer have Milbus (which are an intermediate size car and I am aghast that they term them full size) they have Classics which are intermediates.
Full size will also include Impalas and Intrepids, Regals and Centuries.

If you are not fully committed to renting from National, I was able to book a full-size car through Thrifty for 119.99/week. For 17 days my total with taxes is $386.00. The same size car on National was costing me $560.00 even with using all the codes and coupons.
Thrifty is off-site but does have a shuttle. They are located near Hertz. There is also a code on Mousesavers for an additional 10% off.

I don't think that's a bad rate. I have $464 for a full size for 14 days in August, and have been absolutely unable to even come close to that rate anymore.

I tried Thrifty, and came up with $470 for a rental.

It's been very difficult finding any good rates. When I booked my $464 rate I was aghast....now I'm grateful I booked it!

The priceless code for a free weekend day is for minimum 3 day rental and MAX 4 day rental.

So it will not help you for a weekly rental.

We have Aug. 11 - 22 National , EA, with the BJ coupon ( $20 off ) and the Amex code. #5125601.

For the time frame we are going its $303.00.

I think it will be lower because there will / should be a coupon out for AFTER June 15.

It may be around $280.00 when all is said and done.
I figure it on a 12 day rental...even though the first and last day are just airport "back - forth" it should come to about $23.33 +/- a day.

But you guys should try the AMEX code with the BJ coupon. It may be lower.

Using the priceless link I was able to book Alamo for Sept one week....$163.08 total. That's a full size with the free day coupon.
