Port Orleans Riverside

Day 7 – Monday, May 7

Up at 6 a.m. to make early entry at MK, after a quick breakfast at Riverside food court. Started out with rides in Fantasyland by riding Peter Pan twice. I love this ride. It’s so pretty “flying” over London and seeing the tiny cars driving on the opposite side of the street. Then over to the Tea Cups and Pooh.

Ate lunch at The Plaza on Main Street. I had the Rueben Sandwich and it was fantastic. A huge amount of corned beef and very lean. DH had the Tuna Salad. There was a family next to us who asked us if we wanted their free ice cream their children were entitled to from their kids’ meals but didn’t have time to eat. She asked the waitress to allow us to order it at no charge at the end of our meal. DH didn’t want any, but I wasn’t about to give up free ice cream. It was a scoop of ice cream in a paper cup to go. The vanilla was very good.

Rode the Tomorrowland Transit Authority (Wedway) and a few more rides. Then went over to Epcot to try and locate the special Epcot Flower and Garden show pin for week two. No luck again.

Ate at Mama Melrose Italian Restaurant. Our waitress Debbie is one of our favorites, so we asked to sit in her section. She actually remembered us from October. I order Orecchiette with Chicken. It was pasta, chicken and broccoli in an Alfredo sauce. Very good. DH had the Rib Eye steak. After our entrees, Debbie brought us a complimentary dessert. It was a piece of chocolate cake but with a sampling of the chocolate mousse and canoli filling along side. The canoli filling was so good, I can’t wait to go back and order it for dessert. No nap today, so we were back to our room by 8:30.

Day 8 – Tuesday, May 8

Had breakfast at Tony’s Italian Restaurant in Magic Kingdom. I had a bagel with butter and fresh strawberries. DH had the Lady and the Tramp Waffle with sausage. After breakfast we rode Buzz Lightyear, It’s a Small World and a few others. I saw a pin on a cast member lanyard I just had to have. It was a round blue pin and had Disney Store and their toll free number written on it. I had never seen one before so traded for it. I also traded for last year’s Pooh Easter pin that I really wanted and was glad to find.

I was looking at the pins for sale in the Emporium and couldn’t believe what DH spotted. On the pin rack were three or four Grad Nite pins. What a find! We bought two but wish I had bought more. When we asked about them before we were told that they usually don’t sell them to the general public until after all grad nights are completed. Back to room for a nap very pleased with my three new pins.

After our nap we headed for Epcot to meet some friends for dinner. We first looked for the Flower and Garden show pin and actually found it this time and boy was it something. The pin looked something like stained glass flowers and the whole thing was assembled in a tiny plastic flowerpot with clear domed lid. Very unique, so I bought two.

Months ago we learned that a couple from our church would be in WDW about the same time we were so we made plans to have dinner together one night. We went to Le Cellier Steakhouse in Canada and had a great time. Both DH and I started off with the Cheddar Cheese Soup. It’s so rich and delicious I think I could drink a gallon of it. DH had the Maple Glazed Salmon and I had a Steak Fillet that was cooked to perfection. Very tender and juicy and one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. For dessert DH and I each ordered the Crème Brulee. It was so delicious and we were so stuffed. My friend ordered the Seasonal Cobbler for dessert and her husband didn’t order any dessert for himself. She ate every bit of it and when she was done her husband teased her that she didn’t even offer him so much as a lick. We got a big kick out of that.

We left the restaurant to catch half of Illuminations. We headed out and proceeded to our separate bus stops. Of course there was a huge line for the bus back to the hotel. Another wonderful day of magic.

Day 9 – Wednesday, May 9

Woke up at 4 a.m. and had a difficult time falling back to sleep. Then I didn’t want to get up. A quick breakfast at food court then off to MGM for early entry. I just had to ride the Tower of Terror again. I love it and was able to ride it twice with no wait. DH waited for me in the gift shop and chatted with the cast members there. One in particular was very friendly and memorable. Daksha from India I believe. She even posed with us for a picture. Did a few more rides then headed to Magic Kingdom for lunch.

Ate lunch at Cosmic Rays Starlight Café. We each had a half stack sandwich and a cup of soup. The sandwich is fantastic. Deli meats, cheese, tomato, lettuce on facoccia bread. I had vegetable soup and DH had cream of chicken which looked just awful. Much too thick.

Back to room for a much-needed nap. We were running out of energy by this time and had no particular plans so decided to have supper in the hotel food court. I had a kid’s meal of macaroni and cheese and a fruit cup for $3.99. Just enough for me. DH had fried chicken and onion rings. Back to room for an early evening to start packing, as we have to check out tomorrow.

Day 10 – Thursday, May 10

Up early to finish packing. Just barely got everything in our suitcases, the one we brought and the new one we had to buy. Our friends we had dinner with last night thought it was so funny that we had to buy another suitcase. I guess they aren’t big shoppers.

We had a nice late flight with Delta and had almost a full day in the parks before having to leave.

Another quick breakfast in the hotel food court. I had to order another chocolate covered croissant. It was so delicious it was sinful. Spent our last morning at the Magic Kingdom. Did Small World, Pirates, Peter Pan, Tiki Birds.

Went to MGM around noontime to have lunch at MGM. Ate at Mama Melrose again. We both started off with the mushroom soup with bacon. Oh boy, was it delicious! So rich and creamy. For my entrée I had the Portobella Mushroom with Polenta which is really an appetizer. I love mushrooms and this was delicious too. DH had the salmon. Once again our waitress brought us a complimentary dessert to share. Chocolate Decadence cake. It was excellent.

The last day at the parks is so sad. You’re always conscious that you will have to leave soon so it’s hard to fully enjoy the time. We saw Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular, Little Mermaid and Muppets 3D. Left around 6:00 to meet our Tiffany Towncar driver at our hotel for 6:30 flight. We find it worth the extra money to use Tiffany. It just makes the ride to and from a little more hassle free.

Slept on the plane ride home. Overall we had a wonderful trip. We’ve only been home a few days and DH is already whining he wants to go back!

Afterthoughts

Overall we had a wonderful trip. The weather was excellent. But it did seem like we shopped too much. DH says he can’t wait to go back now that we’ve finished all our shopping. The only disappointment was the bus system. Sure hope they get it straightened out soon. Thanks for reading. I welcome your comments and questions.

I'm glad you had such a great trip. I agree about the bus system. Surely they can do something about it!

Wow...what a wonderful anniversary trip...and congratulations on your 25th...

So cool that you were able to find the Grad nite pins and the Flower show pin. I heard that the second one is beautiful.

It seems that the only real down side to your trip was the transportation! Everything else seemed awesome! Hope you had a great anniversary when you got home to, though Disney is a little hard to top!

Thanks for the good read!

Your trip report was a joy to read. What a wonderful way to spend your anniversary! By the way, I don't think there's such a thing as too much shopping. ;)
