Hey everyone...My parent's 25th anniversary is in September and I am thinking of taking them into the city for a really nice dinner with the whole family (maybe their parents too)...ANYWAY, I am looking for help with a restaurant...

Some of my thoughts are:
1. Rainbow Room at the top of the rock--haven't heard great reviews though, anyone been?
2. 21 Club
3. Tavern on the Green

So if you have been to these places, do you have any opinions on them? Any other restaurants you can recommend? Thanks!

I work in that building (30 Rock) it's been closed for a while now. The building owner is looking for someone to move in and take it over but he hasn't found the right person/company yet. I've heard he's turned down a few.

As far as the others, I guess I would pick Tavern on the Green, I've been there once I think. I have never been to the 21 Club.

We ate at one of Bobby Flay's restaurants and the food was AMAZING. I believe he owns 2 in the city but the one we went to was Bar Americain.

I would not go to Tavern on the Green, the atmosphere is nice but the food mediocre. I would suggest the River Cafe or Le Refuge. If you make a reservation at Le Refuge, request a table in the back room when you call. Both are pretty inside with good food, neither are inexpensive. I've been to both multiple times and have always been very happy.

This is one of our faves as well. :)

Although it is not very quiet or romantic, but the food is great.

Forgot to add that I've been to the 21 Club, the food was very good, but it's not really the atmosphere I'd want for an anniversary dinner. Very businessmen oriented.

I also love Bar Americain. Other restaurants we love are MOMA in the museum of modern art and Mario Batelli's Babbo in the village. We go to these restaurants every time we are in NYC, I highly recommend all three.

We loved Bar Americain. The food was absolutely delicious. Went late after a Broadway show and the place was close to empty.

We also loved Fresco. It's a tiny little Italian place, but very elegant, first class service, I highly recommend the Duck Pappardelle. It's owned by the Scotto family who are always on the Today show. btw - DH goes there every time he's in NY for business: during the presidential campaign saw Giuliani and McCain dining together there. Kinda cool.

Went to Tavern on the Green -- I found the food and service to be just okay and the decor a little run down and cheesy.

Wasn't River Cafe just named as one of the best restaurants in the country? Or best views, or most romantic or something. :) Seems like I clicked a Yahoo headline list and remember it.
