25 Points at BLT-Limited Time?

I HOPE it was OK for your Guide to communicate this information via email. Even with the names removed, it's pretty simple to check server logs for the text you quoted. If DVC is watching, I'm sure they know exactly who sent this message by now. :scared1:

Darn. And that's what I do for a living. Go figure I of all people, never even thought about that. All removed (FWIW) except the main statement.

It's gotta be general public information by now though. I hope he doesn't catch any crap because of me. He's gotta be one of the best guides at Disney even if he is fairly new. :(

We have to realize that this was to come to pass. Making a special rule for a subset of DVC owners and a subset resort is, in essence, a form of discrimination (though not the legal kind) and it just wasn't going to fly over the long haul.

I think we all knew that even though we all just complained about it. There was no way it was going to hold up. No way. I think we all really knew that from day one of the announcement.

Dare I call my guide and make a purchase? Is this still for a "limited time" or is it back in policy for good?

I called to speak to my Guide and he is working on the cruise right now. But I managed to speak to another Guide and he confirmed that yes, you can add on 25 points, no incentive, so $112 per point, and cash only.

And you can also do two 25 point contracts and finance.

I asked if this was going to be available for a while, and he said that he didn't anticipate it going away any time soon, but then we know how quickly the winds can change with DVC.

Hi All,

I'm a new DVC member as of this past Sunday Feb. 15th.
Purchased at BLT and I can confirm that the 25 point upgrade is available but without financing. To finance the minimum purchase is 50 points.
This was confirmed by my guide and the "closer" that you complete the paperwork with.

Yea. There was a lot of speculation early in the thread about special cases and such.

From what I can tell and have been told, it looks like a general repeal on the rule for 100 point minimum add-on at BLT. Looks like it's back to exactly what it always was prior to Jan. 15. Time will tell.

I am glad that it changed for everyone and apparently, the information that went to the guides was not very clear as I talked to my guide directly the other night and was told there was no way I was eligible.

It turns out, though, that I was able to modify my contract (had not yet closed) to add the additional 12 points that I wanted, so it worked out okay for me. My hope is that it will stay until the fall when I will be in the position to add on another 25 pts!!!

Thank you for saying this.

Everyone, you have no idea how DVC goes over these threads with a microscope. If you like your guide, do them a favor and never, quote anything they say to you in person or otherwise on the Net. You are not doing them any favors, might cost them their job and it might prevent you as a member from getting special notices from your guide.

It's gotta be general public information by now though. I hope he doesn't catch any crap because of me. He's gotta be one of the best guides at Disney even if he is fairly new.

WilsonFlyer, you are not helping this person, you just gave them another clue to who this is, with the "fairly new" comment. You would never make a good spy. :)

Added 25 points at $112 a point today, cash. Guide said this was not available to everyone, but mine would be approved based on when I bought my initial points (before the 2010 charts were released). Who know how true that was, but that is what my guide said.

Also guide said lawyers were "involved" to get VGC to go on sale to "everyone" prior to Mar 25 (or was it Mar 23). Minimum points were being debated too...not sure if that would be 25 or 50 or 100.

Whaaa? There better not be a lawyer involved in changing the GCV founding member's time period! We paid over $20,000 at AKV JUST to have this priority. I would frankly find that really unfair. Many of us West Coasters would not have bought in Orlando had we known that this founding period was going to be open to all.

Yeah, I kinda agree with that. Truthfully, there is no way I would have bought at WDW if I knew for sure that I could have gotten what I wanted for sure at GCV otherwise. Not that I don't want to go to WDW, but... I love my Disneyland :)

New 411 from about an hour ago. E-mail addresses and names removed to protect those concerned since guides are supposedly not suppose to communicate to clients via e-mail.

FWIW, YMMV, yada, yada, yada...

Code:
It's for anybody, although I usually don't recommend that people just get 25 pts a different home resort - even with banking and borrowing you will only get up to a 75pt stay with an 11 month booking window.

We always communicate through email with our guide, so much easier with living in the UK. I didn't know they were not supposed to.

Yea. It's my fault but I'm betting my guide's OK. I'm not making excuses but I'd be remiss if I didn't say the following.

I quoted him because of the critique on this board. Let me try to explain.

Someone tries to provide information here to help everyone and immediately others that didn't know it before the OP start chanting that it couldn't be true because how could this guy possibly know it before me and my guide knew it. The exact same thing happened to me when I told everyone they could get their matching developer points for early BLT purchases. Look it up and see. :( That came to fruition/proved true too.

Point being I was trying to reinforce the information I had this time by trying to prove it was real up front. I learned my lesson in the DP thread when some wanted to tie me to a stake early on and stone me for lying. After I was dead, it turns out I was right. Heck, it happened in this thread too. Look at the first two pages. :(

In hindsight, what I attempted to do with this announcement was a weak attempt at best and may have very well hurt someone I have come to think a lot of (my guide). In this particular case, I have reason to think it did not. Lucky me. The additional information I initially posted likely didn't help to prove anything which brings us full circle back to the original problem.

When we learn something beneficial to our friends here, we can choose to post it here; or not. Those of us that are fairly new 'round here just want to earn your trust. Maybe we shouldn't try so hard but on the same token, maybe the old farts shouldn't make it so hard to earn that trust. :)

As it is in life, if what you share turns out to be true and beneficial, noone remembers. That's OK. No big deal. When it turns out to not be true, however; or not exactly the truth; noone ever forgets. Just like real life; damned if you do and damned if you don't.

It kinda makes you wonder why anyone bothers, doesn't it? :(

I bother because I really do care. It's a flaw in my character, I guess. You guys have been good to me (for the most part) and I want to give back when I can. I think we all do. That's why most of us are here.

We all want to be trusted, especially when we know what we post is accurate. It's a hard reputation to gain and an easy one to lose; especially on the net. It's just the nature of the beast, unfortunately.

If this thread helped one person that was upset over not being able to add a few points when they maybe couldn't afford it (prior to Jan 15), it served its purpose in a positive way from my perspective. Same holds true for the incentive points thread a couple of months ago. Some guides apparently aren't as good as mine so, unfortunately, these threads are the only way some people ever find out about these opportunities.

I guess I'll keep doing what I can when I know something that could help someone. The lesson I've learned is that I need to do it more discretely and trust that I have either earned people's trust or that time will prove what I post to be real. :)

Yes...you helped me add on 25 points at BLT whereas I would not have known otherwise. Thanks.

There's a bit of irony here, isn't there?

When we're griping about things like the paper/glasware problem (or whatever it was) and the 2010 points charts, people are quick to snap, "Write to DVC. Complaining on these boards never accomplishes anything."

Yet when something like this comes up, DVC supposedly <snip> "goes over these threads with a microscope..." <snip>.

I guess it could be interpreted that they see what they want to see and ignore what they don't want to see but you really have to appreciate the direct contradiction in play here. :)

I hope if they do find out... they give that guide a bonus!!!:flower3:
He is communicating! He is doing his job! He is selling DVC!!!!

If they don't allow email... that's a ridiculous way to handle business in 2009! That is the BEST way to communicate with me... and if the microscopes are on... DVC needs to know that!!!

FYI... I called my guide yesterday and ASKED that he email me... which he hasn't... nor has he called me back. And I want to buy. Maybe DVC should be looking there!

AND thanks to WilsonFlyer and everyone else that posts on these boards! Disney ultimately owes this board for keeping information going... selling DVC... actually doing a good bit of THEIR work!!!:grouphug:

WilsonFlyer, I thank you for posting too. I've been here a long time and sometimes I wonder the same thing. Why bother? There are some here that are very vocal and sometimes their opinions seem to be more respected.

But this board has helped me so much and I think of all the new people that read here that need some balance in what they read and how we are not helping each other if we let a chosen few speak for all of us. No need to be defensive, just know you did what you thought was right and someone is going to benefit from it and someone is not.

I dont always have good things to say about DVC because they dont always do good things. If we had listened to those that interpreted the POS for us and told us we should have expected for DVC to lie, cheat and steal and we were being unreasonable, they would have never reversed their decision. They knew they were wrong and they didnt care. They did it anyway. Only when they were hit with legal action did they respond.

So thank you to you and all the Disers and members who did not let DVC beat them over the head with a POS that obviously is more of a suggestion than law.:flower3:

WilsonFlyer - I too thank you for posting. Because of your post we were able to add on 25 pts last nite at the DTD event. They didn't say anything about it in the presentation but when I asked about it later, the guide I talked to said she just found out about it yesterday morning. I also asked if she knew how long this offer would be available and she went and check with someone and came back and said they didn't know. I don't understand why all the guides don't know things at the same time. Maybe it has to do with their days off or I wonder if some guides don't check their email or where ever they get their info from. I'm excited to have 25 more points!

Nothing wrong at all with posting. :thumbsup2

But I would personally suggest not posting others' email messages without approval of the sender. Email communications are generally regarded as being private and most people do not send an email with the expectation that it will be shared with hundreds or thousands of others.

As a DVC representative, your Guide should know to be careful in what he sends out. Of all the business units at TWDC, DVC salespeople have to be prime targets for having their email monitored due to the legal repercussions. So it's probably no harm, no foul. But in the future I'd suggest asking before you go down that road again.

Don't worry about trying to prove yourself right. The satisfaction should coming in knowing that you are being honest even if the Doubting Thomases won't cut you any slack. :goodvibes

Bob- I'm sorry others are giving you grief and I truely hope there aren't any repercussions for your guide.

*I* REALLY appreciate your information and people like you who provide breaking news are why I read these boards!!! I hope you do "keep doing what [you] can".

Thank you!
