So I just saw the 24 hour Disney Side part announcement, and I have a quick question.

I have an ADR at Be Our Guest at 9:15 pm. We were not planning to head to MK until later (like early evening).

If it reaches capacity are you allowed in for your ADR? Or are you just out of luck. Do they allow you to cancel without penalty when you get to the gates and can't get in?

Also, does anyone recall if the Monsters' Inc party reached capacity last year? I know the Friday the 13th Villains party was close, did it reach capacity?

TIA

You should be fine. It would have to reach a Phase 4 closure...

With an ADR you would only be denied for a very rare phase 4 closure where they aren't letting anyone in the park:

If you are driving, you may experience the parking lot being closed even if the entrance gates aren't. In that case, you'd have to park elsewhere and take transport.

I attended the event last year and we didn't arrive until later probably around 8 pm since we had done animal kingdom that day. While we had to park further into the parking lot then I ever remember being it was still open and while it was very packed they were still letting people in :) we will be at disney for the event again this year but we will not be attending since we are doing animal kingdom that day and we have a wedding the next morning :( le sad

TigTig22 - that was my plan prior to this announcement anyways - morning at AK, evening at MK. This just makes it more fantastic!! Now it will be morning at AK, leisurely nap, head to MK at 8:00 then eat and enjoy the evening. My super later ADR is turning out to be a blessing.

I do not believe the 24 Hour Event reached capacity. It was crowded from the afternoon on through to about 1am. I believe (and someone can verify) that after the crowds for the Leap Year 24 Hour the CMs were not allowed to the Monsters 24 Hour unless they used a "pass". This may have helped.

Unleash the Villains was a nightmare!!! We arrived early in day because we knew that it was going to be packed. Apparently Disney did not get the memo. The theme, the permitting of costumes, all the extras with no party ticket brought in thousands and thousands of locals and non-working CMs. In short the park was grossly too small for the event (MK is better), there were drunks (MK no alcohol), the events were poorly planned and setup, and it became a "unsafe" situation.

I think this upcoming 24 Hour Event is going to be a cross between the two because not only are they open 24 Hours but they gave permission for costumes without a party ticket. This means many who did Unleash and enjoy villains, cosplay, steampunk, anime, gothic etc dress will see this a great opportunity for a fun costume all night party. The only positive is there is no alcohol in MK.

I would not plan the attendance based on just last years, I would add more people. Permitting costumes when they normally are not allowed, potentially changes everything.

Great points! Thank you. This will not be a "key" visit to MK full of the need to ride-rides, etc. It will just be an opportunity to explore. So if it is busy, we will deal with it.

Great post.

Was planning on that being one of our MK days but thinking AK will be the better choice this time.

I'm so bummed by the timing of this 24 hr event!!! We are set to leave on May 24th, so I hadn't even planned to go into the parks that day. I would have loved to been able to do this, but it would require some major redoing of our plans.

Did DHS reach Phase 4 during Unleash the Villains?

I am a little worried about not getting in for the ADR again now. So many people are starting to talk about Phase 4 closures.

Does anyone know how often Phase 4 is reached? I have tried searching it.

And, what time would anyone recommend heading to the park at? The ADR is for 9:15pm.

Thank you!

I do not know what phase they were at I think the issue was parking lots were full in the area, roads were gridlocked so buses and CMs couldn't get close, people were walking on roads trying to get there. Inside ALL the activity was in front of the hat and by the lake so everyone was literally crushed in that area. You could go to other areas to get away but there was nothing to do with the party in those areas and food ran out at CS. Then for fireworks the crush in front of hat was awful. I was with my DS who is handicapped and some great CMs got us out and over by LM and we watched from an angle. I talked to many CMs and they had no idea how the event was planned, where things were supposed to be and were kinda winging it. Many of them seemed completely overwhelmed. That didn't happen at the 24 hour event, they have now experienced two of them. MK is much bigger and access to the park so much more controlled but it should be a busy night. I would anticipate the locals beginning to pour in 4 on after concluding work.

We went to the 24hr event last year. :lmao: The parking lot was completely closed till bout 11pm or so. Was standing besides someone at about 9-9:30pm that was doing a live feed broadcasting that park was at phase 3. Youd still be alright if you were resort guests, ap, or adr's. The parks due reach phase 4 more often than you know, its just around holidays. But im with hopper on this one, this being like in the midldle of unleash and 24hr event it clearly has the possibility of being closed at some level. Check out the coverage the Dis team did of unleash, Craig said he had to WALK from pop century to hs to make the event.
