..

How scary! But I'm glad he's ok. My DS is 5 as well, and I also have those fears. In fact, I don't even let him play in his room upstairs unless I am up there too. I just can't trust him alone.

OP: I am so happy that your little boy is OKAY! :grouphug:
You poor thing, what a scare!
Keep up with those doctor appts since little bones and growth plates are growing/changing and need to be monitored! ;)
Best of luck!!!

When my son was a baby, I read a book called "Bringing Up Boys" by James Dobson. He said that one difference between boys and girls is that girls look at a dangerous situation and think, "I might get hurt if I do this." A boy will look at the same situation and think, "I might not get hurt." It's so true! Boys are just wired differently!

Thankful that your little one is ok. Could there be bars on his window in the near future? ;)

I think my 15month old DD is wired like a boy. She has no fear and she will fall and hurt herself while doing something and go right back to doing it before she is even done crying. I think I say "No climbing on that" more than anything else during my day.

Soo glad your little guy is okay-- that would have definitely aged me 40 yrs or so!

Two children in our state (CT) were not so lucky this weekend. Both were 2 yrs old (seperate towns). The both fell from 2nd/3rd floor windows. One child leaned against a screen in the window and fell out. The other was jumping on a bed near the window and just fell out. I was in tears this evening when they were reporting the deaths. Imaging that poor child - probably laughing like crazy while jumping and then its all over. My heart breaks for those families.

Again soo happy your little guy is okay

Ever Heard the Song "The Cape" by Kenny Rodgers? I couldn't help but thinking about it when I read this - well that and The Chicks dig it ;)

This reminds me of Christmas a couple years ago... my nephew received Superman PJs that had a little (very little) cape attached. He was practicing his flying by jumping off the bed and said he didn't think he was flying very far. I told him (in all innocence, I swear!) "If at first you don't succeed, get a bigger cape." 5 minutes later I'm downstairs with Grandma and he's shouting at us to watch - he's got a bedsheet wrapped around his shoulders and he's trying to figure out how he can climb the bannister to make the 9 foot jump. The lecture was long and than we had to watch The Incredibles to reinforce the danger of capes.

Very glad he's okay!

Wow, I'm glad he is okay! We're in a two story house for the first time in my life and I'm forever paranoid about it! I'll only open the upstairs windows from the top down because they're so low to the floor that I just know it is a temptation.

My son is 12 now and we refer to the summer he was 4 as "the summer of the ER" because he did so many crazy things at that age (including, but not limited to, trying to play "tarzan" using a bedsheet tied to his ceiling fan). My 8yo daughter had me pretty complacent thinking all those sayings about boys were true; she's a stereotypical girl and has always been rather cautious. But my youngest daughter is proving those theories wrong. She's every bit as fearless as her brother and what's worse, she's got better motor skills than he did at her age!

No; Why, was I supposed too????

We went to his follow up appt. with the Orthopedic Dr. today. they took more X-rays. They said except for some bruising, it's fine! They took the splint off and he walked out of the office!! YAY!!

No but sometimes the ER sends a worker after an accident like that.

As for the follow up, that is great news. Sometimes the initial swelling hides a break, glad to hear the follow up went well.

When my son was that age I caught him right before he tried to do the same thing. He wanted to touch a bird.

OP...I am sorry you even had to go through it..and your ds. I will tell you from personal experience and my own personal story of a ds who thought it would be great to jump from the 2nd story, I have never been able to laugh at the story. He was 5 and the van was parked under that side of the house. He got the great idea of coming out the window, onto the porch roof and jump on top of the van. Even today, just thinking about the what if's my heart flutters!

He never did it again, I probably scared him toooo much to ever do it again. It was one of those mommy moments I am not proud of. As soon as I realized he was fine, no broken bones, no blood, no swelling I was so mad I could spit fire. He has done some crazy things but this was theee worst.

The good news is he is 14 now, and he is not a danger seeker anymore. Thank Goodness.

Kelly

I am very glad he is okay & you survived.

My danger boy is now 25 and we spent many a night/day in the ER explaining some wonderful adventure but he did survive.

The best thing is his DD, 2, is a danger girl so what goes around comes around:laughing: Oh don't worry we have bolted, cemented and proofed everyting possible in their & my house but so far 1 ER visit for trying to climb a tree.

thank goodness he is safe. Poor thing (and poor you too!) You have really started one of my fears, especially as it is the season for window ac's and I"m really unsure what to do.

Here is MA during the spring there is usally ads run which say "babies can't fly". Unfortunately every year a child dies or is badly injured in this way.

When my daughters were young I put guards on their windows because I was terrified they would fall/jump out.

I have 3 brothers. When my younger brother was a child he broke his arm 3 times. Once he decided to walk on a porch railing (1st floor thank goodness) to impress the neighbor's daughter. The neighbor brought him home crying.

The 3rd time he was trying to follow our older brothers by swinging on part of the ceiling over a set of stairs (only 3 stairs about about 3 feet from top to bottom). I still remember him screaming and I just wanted him to shut up. He spent 3 weeks in traction and was released just before the Blizzard of 1978. He was annoyed he couldn't go out and play due to his cast.

Now I have a 16 month old nephew who seems like he will be a daredevil. My sister is stocking up on items from First Start to protect him from himself!

I am so glad he is OK. I wonder if we will survive our children's childhood. DD5 loved the winter olympics this year so much that she deceided to try to ski using her bike and going down our stairs. We ended up in our local ER then to Children's Hospital and luckly all she did was knock out 3 front teeth(baby teeth). She is now called Evil Kenevil (sp)

Lordy when we were little, I thought they were going to name the ER in honor of my little brother! One time he decided to do a Tarzan from the light over the kitchen table....splat

We were kids in the late 70s so Evil Kineval was big so once he decided to jump the garbage cans in the driveway. There he is in July with his snowsuit on and an old football helmet! The only trouble....no ramp... :rotfl:

I can't tell you how many times we were in that ER but I am still surprised my parents weren't investigated by CPS!

If the dr was really doing his job you would have, in our county definitely would have, you should see some of the things kids do, and parents encourage :confused3

at least it provides job security for me

I was a tom boy and I can't tell you how many times i used my bike/bikes in stunts. I never broke anything, but the last big stunt I messed up my beautiful purple bike with the banana seat. then my df bought me a 10 speed and i had to give up my stunt days.

Also, when I was little: i watched too much batman the original one. I wanted to be batgirl. I tied a rob around my neck as a cape and I jumped off my parents bed and was SUPPOSED to land on the dresser. Um, I missed and knocked myself out for a few seconds !!!!!!!! i was taken to the er and had a mild concussion. I remember being there for hours and they kept asking my name, etc. and I couldn't go to sleep.

i had a skateboard and i wrecked and I still have a scar from it. but those were the days.

OP, glad your baby is all right.
