24 hour event at MK

In the past it's been on leap day or first day that summer season starts in may but never both in the same year. Next year has a leap day so I suspect after the marathon in jan, we'll start to hear if it'll be then.

I'm not so sure. I would have imagined we would have heard about the leap day thing. I doubt it will be that day this year. If at all. There really hasn't been a pattern to it. Of course this is my opinion.

Last year it was over Memorial Day weekend which was nice. I am planning/hoping it is the same this year. We stayed all 24 hours and had a blast.

In 2012 it was announced on the ABC New Years Eve Show for leap year.

It fell on our trip in May last year, announced after we'd already made plans. I was kind of disappointed because it meant that we couldn't see the MK opening show, which we really like (the park opened at 6am and we just weren't doing that). Plus the park was very crowded. And with a 5yo we could not practically try the 24-hour thing (not that I would want to, anyway). Definitely something I'll try to avoid in the future.

I'm hoping to hear something this weekend.
There isn't much precedent really.
The first one was Leap Day in 2012, announced New Years Eve
The next 3 have been near Memorial Day, to kick off summer
Now, there is no way to know if they moved them to Memorial Day because they want to do them in summer or if they moved them because there was no Leap Day those years.
I booked a trip for Leap Day just in case. We loved the 24 hour day last year, even though we didn't stay all 24 hours. But it was awesome to have all of Adventure Land and Frontier Land complete by 8:00 AM
