And remember that she has had liver issues in the past?

The other night I was listening to something on the news about someone who was having the same issues.. Liver numbers kept going up and up - then down - then up - lots of pain - etc.. Patient was eventually diagnosed with fatty liver (like DD) with prior instances of liver inflammation (like DD).. And do you know what can lead to these problems in some of these patients??

Two cans of carbonated soda (diet or regular) or two servings of sweetened fruit drinks daily!! I kept telling her to stop drinking the soda (she drinks it daily) because I thought the carbonation was giving her heart burn and a sour stomach.. She stopped drinking it and switched to just water for several days before her last blood work and guess what? The numbers are dropping considerably again!

It appears that for some people, the liver just can't handle these products - similar to the problems with alcohol.. How interesting is that?

I don't think she ever told her gastro about the amount of soda she drinks, so maybe this bit of news might spare her that biopsy and prevent future liver problems..:thumbsup2 Next week she's due for another contrast CAT scan and more blood work and then she'll be seeing the gastro again.. I'll have to remind her to mention the soda to him..:goodvibes

Wow. Maybe this will really help. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

CANN

I'm being tested for this this week. I'm going to stop all soda.

Just to add another benefit. My DH has extremely high blood pressure and was told by a friend of ours to quit the diet pop. He would drink 2 to 3 large drinks a day. His blood pressure has come back down to normal levels. Every time he thinks he can drink it for a few days his BP shoots up again. FYI

CAnn I hope this solves her problems!!

Hoping your DD continues to improve! Those darn livers can be so ornery!

My DM is dealing with NAFL syndrome currently; she's on the transplant list and expects to have a new one in the spring sometime (my fingers are crossed). Back in August her liver stopped working; what a NIGHTMARE that was! They put in a stent to help the blood flow through the liver, and it seems to be helping, but I don't think she's going to ever be herself again unless she gets that transplant.

So, I definitely hear ya, C. Ann, and got my fingers crossed for you and your family!

Good idea! Really push the water and stay away from soda of any kind; sweetened fruit drinks, and of course alcohol, if you happen to drink now and then.. Also tylenol products will mess with your numbers too (and there's tylenol in all sorts of OC meds), so avoid them as well..

Good luck! :goodvibes

Wow, I didn't know this. I used to be a huge soda drinker but stopped when I had gastric bypass surgery. I thought the numbers dropping was from my diet change. I bet it was a combination of the 2. I was up to 3 or 4 cans a day of the diet stuff.

Good to know! I'm going to tell my Dsis and she chugs this stuff as well.

Thanks for the information. I have fatty deposits on my liver also. I don't really drink anything but coffee and iced tea but I take ibuprofen for pain. Maybe I should check my next blood test after drinking water and staying off the pain meds for a little while.

Diet soda is also thought to trigger Type II diabetes. My DH developed Type II a couple of years ago and I just can't convince him to change his eating habits. I found a study that said 67% of people that have developed Type II drink one or more cans of diet soda a day. Their A1C levels have been shown to drop almost 1 point if they cut out the diet pop. I quit buying for the house and won't let my DS 13 drink it anymore. DH buys that stuff by the 2 liter bottle and will drink the whole thing in one day. He keeps telling me that no one in his family has ever been diabetic... :sad2:... well they probably don't drink a 2 liter bottle of soda every day either.

Okay, please define sweetened sugar drinks. I have finally got DD to admit that she had a soda addiction and that is off-limits. But she does drink juice boxes (I try to get 100% juice most of the time, but not always) and she replaced it with the Rasberry Lemonade by Simpy Orange...

Thank you so much for posting this! I have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and I drink a ton of soda. I never even thought that could possibly be a reason my levels would fluctuate. Looking back, though, I did have better test results when I limited soda to one can a day and drank water the rest of the time. I'm going to give it another try.

Thanks again!

Soda is my only thing.I haven't had a drink in 3 years. My husband has been sober so I don't drink either. But thanks.I have an ultrasound on Saturday to see what is going on. It kills me that this thread popped up today!!

Thanks!!!!!!

Very good friend who is also our DR. sent me a 1 1/2 hour video of a lecture regarding the toxicity of HFCS and sugar in alcohol, fruit drinks, soda, etc. with regards to the liver.

I wonder if this is one of the reasons that a warning about the quantity of sugar intake for men and women was on the news a number of weeks ago.

Yeah, I heard that on the radio not too long ago. I guess we should just stick to water.
