$230 difference- what would YOU do?

Here's my two cents.... we have stayed at the Best Western Park Place Inn (2013) and it was nice, we would stay there again... I know you didn't ask about this one. Last year, June 2014, I booked via Orbitz a stay at the Tropicana and we were not impressed. In fact, we probably won't stay there again. Our room was okay but not what I expected or hoped for after our stay at the PPI, and on top of it our bathtub didn't drain when we showered (ew). I just won't risk it again staying there. We are going in November and this time decided to try out the Park Vue Inn... So I can't help there on whether I would stay there but I can tell you that I wouldn't stay at Tropicana again. :)

I appreciate your two cents! And as it happens, BWPPI was booked for my dates. Had it been available... well, I would have been a lot more comfortable because so many people on this forum recommend it. Thing is, I'm not looking for the Ritz (good thing) but I don't want to spend six nights of my life thinking EWWWWW.

That was called "college..."

So we're here. In spite of the encouragement to save the money, I chose Park Vue. Though I can't speak for how happy I might have been at the Tropicana, I am happy with my choice.

Now can someone please explain this rain in Southern California??? Aaaaaaaggggggghhhhh

You came to California at an unusual time. We rarely get any rain during the summer months. It does occasionally happen, but rain in mid-July is an anomaly! What you're getting is the outer edges of a hurricane that formed over the Pacific. I live in the SF Bay Area and, apparently, many people around here had some pretty good rain this morning. My friend about a half-mile away posted a picture of a puddle in her front yard. Another friend about a mile and a half in the other direction said her yard got a good soaking. We got nothing! It was dry as a bone and hot all day. I would have loved a good soaking for my poor, dry lawn. Not our day, I guess! Seriously, though, we desperately need rain in this state. So, although it can be annoying when you're on vacation, it's actually a very good thing!:)

Oh, I get the need for it but it just cracks me up that we flew 2,400 miles and the weather looks remarkably the same! We've had rain for most of the summer at home. I just can't get "It never rains in California..." out of my head. LOL

We stayed at the PVI last summer, and it was decent. The breakfast was good, beds were comfortable. I thought it was weird that the swimming pool was in the parking lot, but the kids loved it anyway. (And there is a privacy fence, so it's not like everyone in the parking lot is staring at you. And it's right across from the main entrance, which is a definite bonus when it comes to having small kids. You can also view the fireworks from the upstairs terrace.

Haven't stayed at the Tropicana, though, so can't comment on that.

We stayed at PVI last summer and loved it and will again next time, the only other place we have stayed though was the Clarion and it was horrible! But we drive and parking is important and free breakfast is very important to us and theirs is really good!! Enjoy your trip!

ROFL - we were there at the same time and thought the same thing!! We've had an endlessly rainy summer and we kept thinking we must have brought the rain with us!
