I was watching a rerun of Bridezillas last week and a comment was made that just rubbed me the wrong way..

The bride-to-be (driving) and her maid of honor were on their way to get ready for the bachelorette party - where the bridal party was going to be transported around town on a bus.. The MOH asked the BTB how much the bus was costing her.. She replied, "Nothing - everyone has to pay their own way.." The MOH was totally shocked and said:

"You can't do that.. "That's so ghetto!!"

Huh? I found that comment to be very distasteful - especially the "tone" of it..

Does this phrase bother anyone else or is it just me? :confused3

Maybe I'm just getting too "old" and "finicky" to watch "Bridezillas".. :rotfl:

I'm uncomfortable with Bridezillas. As for the phrase, poor taste.

Hmmmm, haven't thought much about it, but this is a timely post.

My son came home from camp today and said he was told that the boys can no longer take their shirts off at camp because "this isn't the ghetto." That was the term one of the teenaged counselors used.

Not saying it was wrong to say, just funny that you posted that today.

rude! what if some of those boys WERE from the "ghetto"???

Then they'd probably just laugh at it. I've noticed since that phrase came up a long time ago that the ones offended by it aren't the ones who should be.

I currently live in the ghetto. I didn't grow up here (just stuck here) but I am not offended (but it would ptobably take a lot to offend me). It is used here often. If I use it I am most likely talking about my stupid car.

I find that by using the term people are better able to laugh at their situation. It can be quite comedic here.

And I agree with the MOH, it is ghetto, lol.

that is the catch phrase in our little town with the teen crowd. words are just that but some people chuck a fit, "OH MY" if you use the wrong ones. it makes me feel like a retard."YOU DID NOT JUST SAY THAT" but does that make me an idiot? "PUUULEASSSSE".................. now stick around i am about to get trashed, unless i read my dissers wrong, and every one that does would just set and roar with laughter if they heard that in a comedy club.

I don't watch it often because it drives me nuts, but I believe the people on Bridevillas are not usually the cream of the crop anyway. I find them somewhat "trashy".

After watching those shows I feel incredibly good about myself. lol My daughter and I made a pack this weekend. If either one of us even thinks about acting that way, we get slapped.

It is a bad phrase, but one that most of the people I have come across, and I live near a ghetto, don't find offense in. :confused3:

It's kind of like saying trailer trash. The ones who are trailer trash don't get it. :p

My students use that phrase a lot, but many of them are from the ghetto, so I guess it's okay. Doesn't rerally phase me when I hear it.
