At 8:00pm my phone rang, DH and I where home, getting ready to watch Big Brother. I said Hello, the lady said may I speak with Katrina? I said this is she. She said we have an offer for you if your interested. I said yes, she said we have a Pancreas. Your a Perfect match in the country and your also at the top of the list! The lady then asked me if I wanted to accept the offer. I said "YES"!
DH jumped up and he knew what was happening, etc. DD just walked in the front door from Florida. I had just been told that I have 3 to 6 months to live. I was only on the UNOS list for 3 days. I was up most of the night, getting things ready etc. I was told if I wanted to eat to go ahead and then nothing more to eat or drink.
I was told that if everything was a go, I would get a call back around 6 or 6:30am the next morning, at which time, we where told that we have 30 minutes to leave our house, as we had a 3 hour drive ahead of us.
We packed, etc. made all the necessary phone calls to family and friends. etc. The next morning, the call came, get on the road, and please leave us your cell #. If you get here by 11:00am, we will take you up to the landing pad and you can watch your organ being flown in.
Today is another milestone for me, I am so grateful to my donor, God and the wonderful transplant team and Dr's who worked so hard for me. Also to you my DIS family, who prayed for me and send me many wonderful cards. I still have each and everyone of them and get them out often.
I will be leaving on Augl 16th to WDW for my celebration of life trip with my DD for 11 days. DH will be staying home, ok he's not into Disney like DD and I are. I look forward to meeting many of you. I should be easy to find, as I use an eye cane, so if you see me, please come up and say hello.
I get very emotional as my 2 year birthday is soon coming up!
