21st Birthday, Food&Wine, & 40th Anniversary PTR! Updated 7/4

I'm always trying to plan a trip to Disney and will do anything to get there again so after i got back from a best friends only trip this past Jan, i obviously started to think about how i could get back there again. I really really wanted to be in the MK on Oct. 1st, 2011 for the 40th anniversary but i knew i most likely wouldnt be able to afford it (Even though i work, i've really been trying to build a savings account but being a college student is expensive!). Also, i would be in school during that time so my only option was going for the weekend (which is good because Oct 1st is a saturday).

So, all of a sudden DUH i thought of a great idea. My 21st birthday is Sept. 18th which is only a little less than 2 weeks from the weekend i wanted to go. So why not go to celebrate my birthday? I knew that i only wanted one other person to go with me and my boyfriend, Keith wouldnt be able to afford it because he plays college baseball and can't work (yeah i know, how stupid is that?). Plus, i wanted someone who would pay for the majority of the trip, since it would be for my birthday and everything lol.

This is when i started to consider asking my mom. I've been on a lot of vacations with just my dad (he loves vacations and my mom couldnt get off work for all of them) but i dont ever remember going somewhere just my mom and me. Plus, my mom and I never really spend time together. We dont have a bad relationship at all but we never had that mother-daughter best friend bond that some people have. My next issue was that my mother hates to spend money and would rather spend her time off at home then on vacation. I was kinda scared to ask her because i thought she would freak out and say no (which she does a lot lol) and it was a month before my younger sisters sweet 16 which was costing my parents a ton of money (& i know my mom likes to deal with one thing at a time).

Eventually i did get the courage to ask (and put on major guilt that we never do anything together) and of course she said hell no! But then she said idk we will see. One day i was having lunch with my aunt and she mentioned something about it and said my mom was going and i was like what? Apparently she decided she would go but didnt tell me (this happens all the time, i never know anything!) So yay! Of course my dad was mad because its impossible for him to not go on vacation but i told him absolutely not.

I'm still surprised and excited that we are actually going and the hotel is booked so theres no turning back now!

Here's a pic of my mom and I during our Disney trip in Aug 2010:

Next, where are we staying and when?

Hi Brittney! I'm enjoying reading your PTR and looking forward to more! popcorn::

Love the pics of you and Keith in your siggy! Congrats on being together for 5 years! :thumbsup2

Also yay on persuading your mum to come on a trip with you! My mum is not into Disney but am hoping to persuade her into a Disney Cruise one day...

Finally how cool to be celebrating your 21st at Disney World! :cool1:

Thanks! yeah, i was so afraid she would say no! lol and i really wanna go on a disney cruise too..im hoping for next year! :goodvibes

So the hotel is booked and we are staying at Caribbean Beach Resort! The reason I chose this is because I thought my mom would enjoy the theme and I have never stayed there before and of course I like the theme. Also, I can add it to my list of Disney hotels that i've stayed at because i'd like to stay at each one, so far i've stayed at All-Star Sports and Port Orleans Riverside and soon Caribbean Beach!

As of now it is booked from Friday, Sept 30 - Monday, Oct 3. I'm pretty sure we are going to come down on thursday instead now. This is the part of the trip that makes me nervous because since im in college I might have exams right around that time, but i wont know when until the start of the semester. I have 5 classes on mondays next semester so im going to try to get back early monday morning so I can make sure ill be back in case of exams. The problem is I have a class on thurs and fri too but im going to have to pray that there wont be an exam while im away.

I've been looking at flights for a while and still cant decide what to do. I usually like to fly Southwest out of the local airport (15 mins from me) instead of other airlines out of JFK or LGA (which is an hour) but those flights are looking cheaper right now. I havent taken into account bag fees and such so i'll have to sit down and figure it out. I want to get the earliest flight out on thursday(if we add another day) and back home on monday but for southwest the price just went up really high for the way back. soooo right now im still searching for the right airfare! If anyone knows of any deals, let me know! :goodvibes

I'll leave you with a pic of Keith and I from our first solo trip in Aug 2009..

haha it was so sunny we could barely see!

I love the look of CBR and the pirate themed rooms! Also you can't go wrong with the beach and the hammocks! :thumbsup2

 at exams getting in the way - do colleges not know about the important things we need to plan like a trip to Disney World!

Hope you manage to find good flight prices - we had a stressful time booking ours as well. They are a nightmare at the minute.

That is horrible that your mum got her hours cut at work. Am hoping you manage to sort something out

Hi!

Just read your report and looking forward to reading more.

We stayed at CBR in Dec while we were there. It's a very nice resort. It was our first Mod and the theme was really beautiful. We enjoyed it a lot (but my only gripe was we have 2 small kids and there are no elevators - so naturally we were on the second floor  but aside from that it was great!)

I was a psych major too and now I'm a SAHM. Funny.

Love the plans! :thumbsup2

You know what, I have never thought to visit the wedding pavillion - will have to try it.

Yay on being able to eat and drink your way through the F&W festival as well as being at MK for the 40th Anniversary. Sounds like this is going to be an unforgettable trip :goodvibes

Thanks! I've wanted to get married there since i was 10 years old so i always have to make a visit every trip and i take a million pictures lol you should definitly take some time to see it, it is soo beautiful! I am so excited that i have 2 unique things to look forward to on this trip! the 40th is once in a lifetime and it will be my first food & wine, can't wait!

Great plans so far! I've never visited the wedding pavilion either -even though I would love to. My DH and kids would not be interested in the least so I have no excuse to go see it.

Joining in...a mom and me trip sounds great and Food & Wine!!! Perfect 21st celebration :cool1: My own mom would never go for a girls trip to Disney, she can't even understand why I am going back 2 years in a row with DH and the kids.

Good luck with the flights, airfare is just going up and up and up lately. Southwest is really our only good option out of upstate and bags fly free, gotta love it. But it's getting more expensive every year.

Thanks! You could always convince them to take a walk from the GF to the Poly and on the way you will pass it and be able to look around lol

Yeah, my mom usually feels the same way so i was surprised she agreed to come..and as of now we are putting off airfare since we still arent sure of the dates and hoping some type of sale will come out..thanks for reading!

Fly home

So pretty much only the first two days are different. I am really hoping we can leave thursday but it all depends on if my mom can get the extra day off work. I am really looking forward to this trip so in the mean time i am going to do some mini-trip reports of past trips i've taken when i dont have much to say about the upcoming trip. So i'll leave you with a picture of my bestfriend and I on our Jan trip...

I love the idea of getting a manicure at the Yacht/Beach Club salon.

Also a great pic of you guys at MK - how lovely do the Christmas decorations look?!

Thanks! We were there the first week of January so im guessing a lot were taken down already but there were still some trees up and the garland you see in the picture..it was very pretty so i can only imagine how great it looked when everything was still out!

&& Sorry i've been MIA, i had the worst week due to finals but now classes are over so yay! I should have an update tomorrow!

Sorry once again for disappearing! My computer got a virus last week and it took a while for me to get it back to normal and just when i was going to post again i got some "bad" news that affects our trip so i didnt feel like posting anything until i had some time to digest it lol

So it turns out my uncle just got engaged and plans on getting married in Las Vegas! The bad news....on Friday Sept. 30th, the same day we are supposed to be in Disney :sad1: Of course now i have this dilemma..my mother obviously will be going with my dad to Vegas and he really wants me to go too. Normally i would be so excited to be going to Vegas right after i turn 21 but NOT the same weekend i was supposed to celebrate my birthday in Disney. Most people dont understand my dilemma and it really bothers me! Everyone is like who wouldnt wanna go to Vegas? Of course i wanna go but it just sucks its the same weekend as my already planned trip. We havent done anything but booked the room at CBR which is refundable so it can still be cancelled.

Its looking like i will be going to Vegas because i cant afford to go to Disney alone (my mom was going to pay for most of it) and i dont wanna upset anyone by not going to the wedding (oh yeah they are getting married by Elvis!?). Im still really torn because my uncle did say he wouldnt mind if my mom and I didnt come but i know my dad would care.

To top it off, today my dad calls me with an idea of going to Las Vegas from weds-sat and then flying to disney from vegas and staying there for a couple days. This sounds great except i really need to be back by monday for school and i wouldnt wanna make the trip there for just a day or so. Im glad hes making an effort to make me happy cuz i was really upset when i found out but i dont want to cost my parents more money than necessary just so i can go to disney for the 6th time(even tho i would LOVE to!). I'm really hoping for this option to work out so i can go to vegas and disney to celebrate my bday(how great would that be?) but the logistics still need to be worked out.

Sorry for ranting but i figured i could get some advice or thoughts? As of now im no longer considering not going to the wedding but im still hoping I could somehow do both. I know complaining about going to vegas sounds stupid but im sure you disney fans can relate to me about being upset over this!
