21st August 2011, Disney Dream

Hi all! I hope everyone is now safely home, including all the B2B folks - I thought about you after we got off the ship, did Irene have much of an effect on you? Did you miss CC?

Joi, we wound up driving home too! We had a flight back scheduled for Monday morning, after spending a few days in the parks, but of course it was cancelled. My kids started school on Wednesday 8/31 so we couldn't afford to wait around the airport to see what would happen. We drove about 24 hours, with a quick 5 hour stop to sleep north of DC, and got back to the Boston area Tuesday late afternoon. Quite an interesting trip. As we drove past Hilton Head (more or less) I found myself thinking about one of the other families in our meet group who drove down (on purpose) from Massachusetts and stopped there before the cruise. Driving isn't as difficult an option as I once thought - and it got the job done.

Thanks to everyone for the great FE gifts and making connections before and during the cruise. It was fun to see familiar faces on and off the ship (Atlantis - thanks Joi and Nancy). Not sure when we'll get to cruise again, but we had a fantastic time.

Sandy

Sandy, I thought about you guys...was hoping you had power/were safe, but totally forgot you were going home a few days later...leaving us in the same postion:confused3... stranded

I agree too that while I would not do it on purpose...driving did the job. I am now working on reumbursement from our trip insurance for the car rental.:thumbsup2

No CC the second time got me a little dissapointed but it made the first stop one I was really greatful for! I was just happy that the second leg was not totally cancelled.... I don't ever mind being "stuck" on the ship ;)

Very nice to meet you all....I am sure we "will meet again":wizard:

We'd thought about trying to make the DIS meet, but the DCL ground transfer from the WDW Beach Club didn't get us to the terminal until 1:45 p.m., and we didn't get on board until 2:45 p.m. (At which point I rushed to get us on the waiting list for Palo, my wife found the stateroom, and we rushed to get food at Cabanas before they closed it down. I will never use the DCL ground transfers again.)

...I hope we do cruise together again but I fear not in the near future, I have priced up next year and August 1st 4 night cruise would be $3,311.43, same cabin we paid $1,698.51 this year, 7 nights on the new Fantasy August 4th (again same inside cabin) $6,303.90
I didn't bother booking again onboard because I can't see us cruising Disney again unless the prices drop or we can sail in low season(will be at least 2 years+)
Holy cow--you aren't kidding. I just checked out the prices for 2012, and they are insane! We did put down a minimal deposit for a placeholder (aka "dummy") cruise. We were thinking of a 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise in 2013. However, if DCL doesn't bring prices back down to earth, we won't be going. I find it hard to believe they can fill four ships with pricing like that.

As for the trip home, we spent a few days at WDW after the cruise, intending to fly home on Sunday afternoon. Late on Friday, I got a voice mail from the airline telling me my flight had been cancelled. I immediately booked the next flight out I could get, which was Tuesday evening. This got us home about as quickly as if we had driven, and we got to spend two more days at WDW! I plan to file a claim with our travel insurance for the two additional hotel days.

Yes it was us who drove to Florida and stopped in Hilton Head on our way down from Massachusetts, we enjoy driving and do not drive straight thru like all of you did on your way home, we made a 3 week trip out of it and it is fun being with the family, my kids are still young and like to visit different places. our drive home was good with stops for chocolate at Hershey!!! Glad everyone got home safely. We would like to thank everyone for the wonderful FE gifts we were amazed the kids enjoyed getting them throughout the 4 days.
