Wayne...hope you are feeling better soon!:goodvibes

Shell...Cool that your daughter is psyched about the Pirate Party. :thumbsup2
As far as your queistion...dont drink :) so I have never taken alcohol on the ship, I am sure someone here will help ya... but I am interested in this answer..

Has anyone ever checked a case of water at the pier? (delivered to their room?) I am thinking of bringing some for port activities. but only if I can get it taken to my room.

Printed new door magnents...almost here!!

Had to book our transfers today - I waited too long! I never do this with client's (I'm a travel agent) but of course when it's me I just put my stuff at the bottom of my looooong list!

We wanted to go with Happy Limo from AKL to the port; but ended up booking with Mears. Has anyone used them? I trust my client's with Happy Limo and like their no pressure complimentary stop included on the way to port. Mears has all these rules about only stopping for 15 min exactly, and being charged another full fare if you go 1 min over!!! :scared1:

Anyway, we rented a van to drive ourselves back to CSR so we can go shopping along the way. Soon enough 18 days will be up and I will be in the sunshine forgetting about this! Highs of 15 here in Newfoundland - too cold for summer...

Shelby - Highs of 15?? I may have to rethink my many complaints about the weather in New England... hope you are staying long enough in Florida to thaw out!

We went round and round with whether to take a limo or rent a car - we finally gave up on the limo idea and are renting a car for our whole stay. I like the idea of having the limo available, but I figure if we can get through the annoyance of just doing the rental at the outset, it takes care of all of our transfers (from the Poly, to the port, to HRH, to the Beach Club, and back to the airport) without any further changes. I think it will be worth it in the end since there will be fewer logistics to me to worry about (and DH doesn't mind driving us around).

I'm still annoyed that I can't find my door magnets, but at this point just hoping they will jump out of my closet from some hidden location doesn't seem to be working!

Newfoundland has some great weather in summer usually - highs in the low 20s Celsius which is hot enough in direct sun, but still with a nice breeze to cool you off. This summer though has been one rainy day after another. People think we are nuts going to Florida in August but we need that for some Vitamin D!

Must play with some more magnets - have to decide what to print!

Wayne if you could update us we will both be joining the FE.

room 8589 Me - sheila, DH - Gene and DS- Camdyn will be 6.

room 8583 Mom - Nancy and my other DS- Zakari will be 9

Thank you.

Sheila
Sheila - I know this is a late question but I just wanted to confirm that you have two people in one room and three in the other.

I saw some other FE logistic comments. Donna and I are separate households but we're just putting up a single FE since we couldn't figure out how to hang them separately easily (we'll get tips from Carrie's split hanging plan). We figured since we're new at this, we could split it up when we're back home.:hippie:

Only 9 more days of work before vacation:banana:

Shell.... OMG ... when you said 15 I was thinking Fahrenheit!!!!! PHEW...I was thinking to myself gee I dont remember hearing Newfoundland was THAT cold:confused3 DUH!

I always forget to convert to Farenheit when posting about temps! It was a cool 10C this morning at 6:30 when we went out for a walk. Should be a high of 20C today. That's like a low of 50F and high of 68F.

It has been unseasonably cool here - we are patiently waiting for summer to arrive...but I think we are going to have to find it in Florida this year!

And it has been extremely warm here... strange things all over... :confused3
But I ma glad you are not really freezing like I thought :goodvibes

ADVICE PLEASE
I need some advice on how to bring alcohol on board the ship. We have never cruised before, so this is all new. I understand we are allowed to bring a soft-sided cooler, but it will be easier to just put it in a backpack (since we are traveling from Canada, and the cooler is an extra piece of luggage that won't be reused for something else later). Our boarding time is 12:30, so it is a good bet that we won't have to carry our luggage around with us for too long once we get on board? I read that rooms are available at 1:30, but wasn't sure if that was a rule or just an average time.

I have so many questions! I will try to keep them to one per post, and keep searching out answers on here. Seems like the closer we get the more questions that pop up!

Hi, DW and I are beer drinkers rather than any hard stuff. We tend to bring a 12 or 24 pack of cans, usually a basic lager like Yuengling. We keep it in the cardboard case and then put it in a carry on luggage with wheels. It is the same one we use as a carry on during a flight so it is not extra. That way we just wheel it around until we can get to our rooms. We never bring the cans to bars or the dining room. But we will bring one in a beer cozy to shows and other areas.

Hygiene99, thanks for the info about Cabbage Beach! I think we're set on the Wyndham beach but I appreciated your help!

shelbecat, we've had very warm temperatures here in Toronto. We're all trying not to complain about the heat (one day it was 48 Celcius with the humidity factor) because we do so much of that when it's cold during the winter! I think I'm going to St. John's at the end of September for work...never been there before and I'm really excited about it. I've heard so many people say how beautiful it is in Newfoundland. Also, I have used Mears and they were quite good. We use Tiffany Towncars now because their drivers are so friendly but I really can't complain about the service we received from Mears.

Thanks for the alcohol advice. I wasn't sure if it was allowed in the standard carry-ons but that will work perfectly.

St. John's is a gorgeous city, and September is typically warm (well warm for us!). It must have been 12 degrees today - brrr. We used to live in the Toronto area and miss the warm summers (but our winters are nowhere near as cold).

17 days to guaranteed sunshine!

We are going to St. John next summer. Carnival is bringing a ship to Boston so we are taking a 4 night cruise. I am excited to go get a Tim Horton's ice coffee! I drink my way through Ontario everytime we drive to my sister's house in Michigan. It usually takes me about 4 to get through! Do you have any recomendations for excursions or things to see while we are there? Once I return from this cruise, I will start planning that one! :dance3:

Don't get me started! I'm a travel agent, so I love talking travel anyway, but get me started about Newfoundland and I might not stop...especially over a drink! I will give you lots of pointers. Maybe we can meet up on the cruise at some point too (I know we will meet, but I imagine I won't be able to put any names with faces).

I can't believe how close we are getting. I finally emptied out my suitcase from our last trip (somehow the last little bits and pieces from a spring trip to Williamsburg never made it out) and started piling in things I don't want to forget - the cruise docs, passports, a few new books, etc. I'll rearrange later, but it is neat to see the pile start to grow.

I still have to package up the FE's - probably this weekend. I'm having so much fun - we ordered an FE online but it hasn't come yet, I can't wait for that either...

Fish Extender arrived yesterday and my 7-year-old DS went crazy he loves it so much! He is super excited about the cruise, which is really enhancing my experience as well.

He loves for me to go on YouTube every night before bedtime so he can watch video after video of the ship. I am trying to get him to NOT have his expectations so high that nothing could match them.

I don't think he remembers our 2007 or 2004 cruises at all, so it is like a whole new world to him. :yay:

So excited!! :woohoo:

Okay, it is 9 degrees here today. Although that is in Celcius...it is still FAR TOO COLD!!! We have been hit with a low system that is just hovering over us bringing rain, fog and drizzle. Numerous flights have been cancelled. Fingers crossed we have better luck in 2 weeks (and thankfully I know how important travel insurance is!)

We started packing too - dusted off the suitcases and put the small things in. It's getting real now!

I finished all my FE's and put them into bags for each cabin. Check!

Then I made the mistake of saying to DD12, "you aren't going to dress up for pirate night, right?" I thought this issue had already been decided, but apparently once DD13 said she didn't want to dress up, DD12 just thought she had to go along, and now is feeling sad. Well, with less than two weeks to go until we fly to Orlando, I'm feeling the pressure! I think what we decided in the end (after much debate) is that my DD's and I will all wear white shirts, black skirts or capris, and we'll get some fun black and red striped fabric to make some kind of belt/sash type thing. Maybe a hair thing as well, or a bandana. A compromise outfit, for sure, but I think it will be fun.

All Packed ready to leave on Thursday, spending the week before in Hilton Head, South Carolina then a couple days at Disney then off to the port. Kids are very excited to go. All our FE stuff is packed and ready to go! Can't wait to board the Dream. :cool1:
