21st August 2011, Disney Dream

9 degrees!!! Oh my gosh, shelbecat, you should have stayed in TO; it's been 25 to 30 C here for a while now! :-) We've had a great summer and we're only sorry that it's too short.

I"ve started throwing in small things in the suitcase too! glassslipper, I had to chuckle at your pirate night dilemma with your DD. It always seems to be the case with kids that you think you know what you're doing, and then they often send you a curve ball! Anyway, your ideas re your pirate wear sound great and I'm sure your DD will love her pirate outfit!

I have been trying not too wish too hard for vacation, because when we get back we only have 5 days until school starts. I can't belive how fast our summer went by. We had a very snowy winter this year so instead of getting out of school in mid june our kids were not out until the 25 th of June. That definately put a damper on our summer!!

You're so right about the end of the cruise being so close to school time again! I too have tried not to wish away the summer because of the cruise but it was very difficult!

July 25th!?? Oh, your kids must have been very upset about that! It's one thing to get snow days, but giving up so much summer vacation isn't fun at all!

Yeah, I think the curve ball has something to do with being a teenager (or preteen, as the case may be). Although my girls perfected the eye roll years ago.:goodvibes

We also had a snowy winter and late end date for school - my kids go back just two days after we return home (but we have a few days at WDW after the cruise before that happens).

We have a couple more days than that in Ontario as our kids don't go back until September 6th. However, our kids didn't finish up until June29th this year!

My boy goes back to school the day after we return from the Cruise (Monday) :scared1: but he is used to it...we've cruised mid/during the school year, winter holiday, vacation, etc.... as long as we still cruise, he figures out a way to "deal" with it ;)

he missed 14 days of school last year for the transatlantic....he had to make up the work and do a "report"....he survived it all

I really can't wait !!!! :woohoo:

Joius24 - lucky boy, getting to go on the transatlantic and miss school! We've done that a few times over the years, but this year just missing two or three days of middle school turned out to be pretty hard, so we won't be able to do it again (at least, probably not!)

Hello fellow DISers! :goodvibes I haven't been here on our cruise's meet thread much, but I am totally excited to get on board!… See ya'll there (if I can manage to come to the DISmeet lol :) )

:yay: 12 DAYS LEFT!! :yay:

Some of you lucky people are probably in Florida already enjoying the sun! It is a brisk 8 C here this morning and fogging. Very cold - we have our heat on! But it will be 12 later - double digits!:cool1: (You have to find the joy somewhere)

I am taking it as a blessing that I can pack all of the summer clothes I just washed and not have to wait until last minute to fit it in the suitcase. There's always a bright side!

Shelbecat -that's definitely a bright side! On the other hand, my DD13 is away with a friend this week, so I won't even be able to look at, let alone wash and pack, her clothes for another 5 or 6 days. :goodvibes

Hopefully they'll all come home with her!

I know it will only take me about an hour to pack everyone up, but I am still really looking forward to getting it all done. I hate waiting till the last minute. I definatley prefer the off season trips so I can be all set a week or so ahead of time!

I know. I kind of like packing and organizing everything, and it's hard to do when everyone is still wearing their clothes!

A friend encouraged me to buy some packing cubes, so I'm giving that a try. I'm not sure yet that they work any better than ziploc bags, at least not for a trip of this length, but it will be fun to try them out.

What do you guys like to carry in your carry-on for the first afternoon? We always bring swimsuits and sunscreen - but you can't put the sunscreen in the carry on for the plane, or it will get taken away.

I love my packing cubes!! I pack the cubes in my bag and take them out when I get to my destination leaving the suitcase for the laundry bag. I've always been afraid of ziplocs and clothes with even the slightest chance of water (swimsuits excluded of course) I'll have to pack them twice this trip: once at home and again pre-cruise after our wash day. I hope they work out for you.

My Wife packs for me! very excited here in Boston.....:thumbsup2:banana::banana::banana:

We are all getting very excited as well and REALLY need this vacation. Our basement has flooded for the second time this year so it has been a stressful week for us. Getting on that plane next Wed is going to be sweet.

All packed ready to go. Leaving tonight heading to Hilton Head, SC for for the week, then heading to Disney for a few days can't wait to meet all of you on the boat!

Have a safe trip.

Glassslip.. I have found the mini travel versions of sunscreen very helpful. I have one tube I keep refilling and reusing There are a couple brands and I am pretty sure at least one of them is under 3 oz. I like also like pack a snack for my son for the port wait.

I am equally excited AND nervous to get it all done... I cannot beleive it is here already...

I have used compression bags to pack... I like them especially for the dressier clothes, seems to lessen the wrinkles.

Sonny.... I am hoping YOUR FE includes something from your home town???

sooooo excited! :yay:

We bought a small tube (under 75mL) of Hawaiian Tropic Sunscreen in the travel section at Wal-Mart. It lasted us the afternoon on our last trip and will work again this time (can also be refilled).

We also take shampoo in small refillable bottles (from Wal-Mart) that are less than 75mL so you can put lotion sunscreen in those.

Otherwise we take a change of clothes, swimsuits, sandals (since we have to wear winter boots leaving from here!). It's a long flight (two 3+ hour flights) so we are definitely ready to change clothes when we arrive.

Under 10 days! Happy dance time!:cool1:

I actually have the girls wear their bathing suits under their clothes!

We packed the suits in our carry-on for our first cruise on the Magic and, since we didn't really know the boat yet and hadn't figured out where the bigger bathrooms were located, struggled to put them on in the small bathroom by the pools. On our second cruise they wore the suits and we went right to the pools after we boarded. Of the few times we used the pools during that cruise, we found that this was the least crowded time of all. We grabbed trays from Topsiders and ate at one of the tables nearest the pools.

So we only bring one carry-on with sunscreen, a few toiletries, and a change of clothes just in case our suitcases don't make it in time for early dinner seating. :scared1:
