21st August 2011, Disney Dream

Hi everyone,
I haven't been around for a while either so sorry about that! Thanks for posting the link re the dismeet! And what a great article by Matthew! You can really feel his emotion and passion; signs of a great journalist!

I find it hard to believe we're just a month away too! My DD17 and I can't wait!

Hi All! My husband and I & 2 daughters will be sailing for our first time August 2nd ! We are all so excited :yay:! I purchased a fish extender from ebay and was wondering if another family would like to do it with us? I am really new to all of this so I am not quite sure of the protocol.

Thanks,
Kim

p.s. I am not a vacation club member.

Hi Wayne --

I completely understand that I will be an "unofficial" FE participant. No problem -- we're getting our stuff together and we will definitely be giving but understand that "receiving" will be optional.

Anyway, could we be added to the main meet list (not the FE list?)? I am hoping to try to make it to the meet and say hi to everyone! :yay:

Thanks!!

Sarah - We added you to our list as well. I have two boys that are 9 so it should be fun. Can't wait to see everyone.

So I've finally had the chance to catch up on all the posts, and I see that the FE has been "closed" for a couple of weeks. :sad1: I don't want to rock the boat, so I understand if you can't fit us in.

I do hope to meet you all on the cruise, and maybe beforehand here on the boards. See you soon!!

Hello everyone --

I'm just getting around to organizing for this trip (crazy time at work lately), and I hope I'm not too late to get in on the fun!

There will be four of us in cabin 5550:
[ME--wife/family travel planner] Sarah
DH Tom
DD Shelby (age 12)
DS T.J. (age 8)

We're from Silver Spring, Maryland

My mother and stepfather will be in cabin 5552.

Can we get in on the Fish Extender goodie exchange? I know my kids would KILL me if they saw this going on and they weren't involved.

Before the cruise, we'll be at WDW first from 8/16-8/19 (Pop Century), then in Port Canaveral at the Country Inn & Suites 8/19-8/21 (with a day at Kennedy Space Center on Saturday.

Looking forward to meeting you and seeing you on the Dream!

Thanks!!

-- Sarah

We also added your cabin, 5550, to our personal FE list. We will also be at CI&S from 19th-21st with our three kids (DS16, DS13, DD10) so we may see you around there before the cruise.:)

I know my kids would die to find out that I dropped the ball on this, so here's what I am going to do -- I'll bring goodies for the FE participants, and I'll put out our FE. I'll also (secretly) bring some extra goodies for my kids and sneak those in their pockets on the FE occasionally, so they still have the fun of finding surprises there. If any other participants have some extras to spare and they want to drop something at our FE, that would of course be very kind :littleangel:
but no one should feel obligated to do so.

I do hope to meet you all on the cruise, and maybe beforehand here on the boards. See you soon!!

We can add you to our FE list also. We're in room 6684:wizard:

Since the meet and greet is at 2:30pm, there is a chance we won't make it. We'll be taking the Magical Express from WDW and I've been told that you are usually picked up anywhere between noon and 1 but you don't find out when until the day prior. Hopefully, we will make it to at least say "hello" during the meet/greet time but I wanted to let everyone know in advance.

Only 3 more weeks until we head to Bay Lake Tower and right onto the ship a few days later.

If anyone is interested, a podcast called Be Our Guest Podcast has had two shows regarding their recent trip on the Disney Dream (late June-early July recent). They're dated July 15 and July 18. Listening to them is making me even more excited to board!! I know you can find them in iTunes and Stitcher but I believe they are also available online somewhere.

:wave2:Thanks so much to those who will try to fit us into their FE exchange.

DS and I hit the craft store this weekend and we're having a blast "creating." My stepdaughter--just back from Hawaii and NOT going on this cruise -- has even gotten in the act. :wizard:

We're getting very excited for the trip. It has been FOUR long years since we were last on the Magic (although we did take a Carnival cruise to Alaska two years ago). Can't wait to see the new ship in person!

My son has been watching online videos of the ship with me every evening now as his "snuggle time" request.

Also, I've booked a Comfort Suites room in Nassau as I've read about here. I believe there are others in this group doing the same, right? My DH is skeptical, and calls this a "caper," but it all seems on the up and up to me, right?

I also have pirate attire ready to go for us all. Yo ho!! pirate:

Looking forward to meeting at 2:30 as planned (hope I'm on the ship by then, ha ha!!). Any plans for shirt colors or name tags or the like? On other cruises we've met up wearing lime green.

And to respond to prior comments: YES! I want to do FE as well!! But my kids are in fact into it too. Also, so jealous about the stay at Bay Lake Tower. We stayed there last November and it was FABULOUS!!!. :woohoo:

See you soon!!!

Hi Sarah!

We are one of the families who have booked a Comfort Suites room at Nassau. Last time we went to Nassau (4 years ago on the Wonder) we just went to a beach near where the ship docks, and had a very lukewarm experience. So we decided to go for it this year, and are very excited! I don't think there is anything wrong with this approach, and since Comfort Suites makes plenty of $$ off of our caper, I'm sure they are thrilled to have us do it (they don't even have to make up the room). Someday they'll catch on and put all the cruise guests in the same room...

We can't wait for our trip. We are starting it off with one night at the Poly before the cruise to watch the fireworks (the kids don't know this part yet), then after the cruise we are doing two nights at Universal to see the Harry Potter part of the park, and then three nights at the Beach Club for some Disney time. A lot of moving around, but we are trying to fit in as much as we can in the time we have.

We are also having a lot of fun making and assembling our FE gifts. I'm having a bit of a hard time knowing when to stop...:goodvibes

Does it make sense to book the Comfort Suites if we just want to go to the beach at Atlantis? We don't want to go to the water park, just the beach.

glassslipper, we're going to the Harry Potter World too! We're starting out there and then we're spending 2 days at WDW after the cruise. My DD17 and I are really excited!

Lynda - I'm not sure if it makes sense to book the Comfort Suites room - probably someone on the main thread can tell you if you can buy a pass for the beach which is cheaper than the room. The real advantage of the room is that it costs less than the Disney package which includes the water park.

Going to HP before the cruise is a great idea - a burst of touring, then the relaxing cruise, then more Disney. We had to arrange it this way because we couldn't leave earlier than August 20th, but I like your schedule better. You'll have to give us some tips on what not to miss. Seems like the first and most important tip I've heard so far is to get there very early and head straight for HP.

Well, found something fun to do in Nassau this time. Getting a day pass to Sandals... How about this for a description:

Imagine a sanctuary so alluring the Duke and Duchess of Windsor made it their epicenter for high society as the famed Balmoral Club of the 1940s. Today, transformed into the Sandals Royal Bahamian, it remains an oasis of European grandeur where guests are still treated as royals. Voted “Top Spa Resort” by readers of Conde Nast Traveler, Sandals Royal Bahamian is considered to be the Caribbean’s most elegant resort. Seductive alabaster sand beaches and crystalline waters embrace tropical gardens and opulent suites

Being a travel agent has it's perks. :thumbsup2

Doesn't sound like my cup of tea Rick but I am sure you will have a great time. Rather do some Geocaching myself, into a bar for a beer or 2 then back on the ship.:goodvibes
