I know this sounds very far-fetched, but the weekend after reading this thread, DH and I went to WDW and I had a very similar visual issue as what the OP was describing--like movie frames passing in front of my eyes. It was actually while I was watching Expedition Everest!

I really think it was an ophthalmic migraine. Since my diagnosis a few weeks ago, I've had a bunch (like, about 8) recurrences and they have all been very different--sometimes jagged lines, sometimes a graying-out of different parts of my visual field, and then this experience with "movie frame vision."

The ophthalmologist the emergency room doc referred me to wanted me to see a neurologist. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks and I imagine she will order an MRI. OP. hopefully this is just another manifestation fo your migraines.

After reading your update, I am glad to hear you are getting to the bottom of the second spot in your MRI. Don't let up on those doctors until you get answers - and make sure they explain everything to you. Keep your family doctor informed so that he can keep on top of the entire situation.

Hope it's nothing. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Interesting.. I believe I discussed something similar here last summer.. I woke up one day (after a short nap - which I don't normally do) and looked at the wall towards the end of my bed.. (There's an open bookshelf at the top of that wall..) Suddenly it was like the bookshelf was "flicking by" - very, very fast - like you described the flipping of the pages in a book.. I remembered thinking that such a sensation/motion should have been accompanied by nausea (like if you spun around on the tea cups at WDW), but there was no nausea and no pain.. I flipped over on to my other side (with my eyes closed), opened them again, and the same thing happened.. Flipped over one more time and it was finally gone..:confused3

Still to this day I don't know what it was.. My DD was afraid it might have been a mini stroke or I had a small seizure, but it's never happened again - so I really don't know what caused it..

I do have to get new glasses soon - I noticed just how bad these ones were about 2 weeks ago - so I'm going to mention it to the eye doctor..

Is that what you are describing? If it is, please update if you find out what is causing it.. I'm really curious now - just thought it was some "fluke" that only happened to me..:confused3

At the moment I have a script in my hands for a bunch of blood work that I don't understand. Lyme Titer (I understand Lyme but think its unlikely- I don't really do the outdoors), ACE level, Methylmalonic Acid, Homocystine level: SED rate

Anyone have any ideas what he's looking for with these tests?

I'm glad your family doc took that time to talk with you, especially after what you're going through with your boy.

Here is a link to info about the sed rate test, and I'll also let you know that that site is really good for all sorts of lab tests. We're going through some stuff with hubby right now...could have been diagnosed 2 years ago if any of the MDs had followed up or listened to what he had to say; as it is, we had to FORCE the endocrinologist to throw in some extra tests beyond triglycerides and a1c etc to get this issue diagnosed. The problem it seems to be has affected his whole body, his hormones, etc. It's affected our life together and people ignored his symptoms for 2 years.

It's rotten when they miss something, and if they did, follow up with that. Contact the licensing people, etc. Radiologists aren't "allowed" to miss things, especially things in the brain, and you can't let them get away with it.

So anyway, that site is really good for understanding lab tests.

Best of luck!!!!

Hey out there, I forgot to mention that I did have my eyes checked right before DS got sick by an eye surgeon who specializes in retina trouble and got a 100% clean bill of health.

I am leaning towards migraine but the second spot has me a bit spooked to be honest. The trouble with migraine is it's a catch basin. IF nothing else easily fits it drops into migraine- which means Dr's tend to stop looking pretty quickly. I am really grateful for my Primary care Dr, he never gives me the brush off and genuinely listens.... thank heavens for that or I'd still be in the dark.

I've had those headaches that mimics strokes. Very scary stuff. I just had an MRI last month and called for results. My Dr says (over the phone) everything looks good. In fact the spot is smaller. Spot? What spot? First I had heard of it. I go see her tomorrow actually so we'll see.
Guess they see some spots that seem like it would be something alarming to us but maybe not to them. :confused3
Besides the vision, any other issues?

SO here is the update.

lyme - you know what that is

ace level - for sarcoidosis (specifically, neurosarcoidosis) - seriously doubt.. most cases i see are young, aa people with confusion, delirium, and not ha/blurry vision.. and if you had an mri previously you would have had symptoms far severe by now (usually along with lung symptoms too)

sed rate (or esr) - for temporal arteritis (again doubt, but possible) - probably the more serious of the ones, needs prednisone/biopsy.. but doesn'tsound like what you're saying.. people get headaches on side (temporal) just even touching/rubbing side, but does come with visual disturbances (and can cause blindness if not treated).. some people get jaw symptoms pain with chewing... most people lose part of vision, not blurry.. probably the most serious one to miss though

MMA - for b12 deficiency usually... not sure why he's checking that.. usually has other neurological symptoms, not just ha/blurry vision

homocysteine - elevated levels can cause pro-clotting conditions- like stroke, etc.. don't know where your 'spots' are, but doesn't sound like stroke to me.

good luck - oh, and btw, i don't know if i'd make "too much" out of spots.. spots are so non-specific sometimes.. anyone can have spots.. sometimes we get too much from just ordering a test.. findings things there that we never might have found and would have been totally asymptomatic for the rest of your life .. i'm not totally blowing off the 'spots', but have just seen so many things ordered that even the reading radiologist or ordering dr either 1) ignores it as 'oh that's nothing or 2) wish they hadn't ordered it because it just causes more testing for nothing.... (although again.. i don't know what they mean by 'spots' in this case)
