21 To Check In At Universal Hotels?

I called to make a reservation and they asked me my age. MY, was I surprised and said naively 20. The lady responded well sorry we cant book you at a universal- loews hotel. I was shocked since I just went to disney over the summer and know its 18 there. So, my question is do they really enforce the age 21 requirement at check in and why do they have this age restriction.

It is in fact 21 to check-in at all Universal hotel's and about half the hotel chains in America. I'm 21 now so it's not a problem, however last year when I was 20 I checked in at Hard Rock Hotel with no problem, and they even checked my ID.

It's a chance you probably don't want to take, unless you can live with the fact you MAY have no room and MAY be out your deposit.
