This is Mrs. Mickey'sApprentice, or should that be Dr.Mickey'sApprentice.
Anyway, I thought I would try to go forward with the trip report, and maybe give everybody some insight about what its like to get hurt at Disney, and how to go forward with your trip, and whether or not its really worth it to continue the trip.
To recap: We left Montgomery, AL at Midnight Friday Night/Saturday Morning and drove to Atlanta for a 6:50AM flight using DH's frequent flier miles.
(DH likes to fly. We've tried staying overnight and driving over night. Neither works. I will insist that we drive in the future. We got to POR absolutely exhausted and slept for most of the day. I did some last minute work on my dissertation to get it ready to turn in to the graduate school. We got up and went to Raglan Road, and then saw Bob Jackson's show at POR.
The next morning we got up, took our bags to luggage services at POR, caught a bus to DHS and a boat on to BWV. I Still had some work to do. DH was getting antsy, and I was feeling pretty guilty. I finally decided that although I still had 30 minutes worth of work to do...it would wait until Monday. I wanted to go have fun afterall, and knew that I would easily make my Monday deadline to the graduate school. I got in touch with DH who told me the room was ready, and that he had already gotten our stuff. I got to the room and found flowers.
SO...finally, off to Epcot we went. We had a nice meal on the water at Mexico, and then rode the Mexico and Norway rides. I love Maelstrom!! We saw an excellent performance of Chinese acrobats, and saw the China movie. We explored the China pavillion more than we had in the past.
We walked around a little bit more, and decided to find a spot for Illuminations. We found excellent seats in front of Norway. It had gotten a little cold during Illuminations, and we decided to go back to BWV to get my jacket before going to MK.
MK had late EMH until 2am. I was not in a hurry to get to MK. I thought it would be really cool to not get there until after 11PM. We strolled back to BWV and went to Thimbles and Threads. We then went and got my jacket. Strangely, by the time I went to get my jacket...I wasn't cold anymore. I figured MK would still be cool at 2am so I took it anyway.
The MK bus came along after a short wait, and then headed to Swan and then Dolphin....We were on a bus with an elevated platform on the back half of the bus. Our seats were facing backwards. There were about 10 people on the bus. Well, after leaving the last S&D resort...the bus driver made a hard turn. I felt myself losing my balance and tried to steady myself by putting my left foot on the floor. I've done that a million times. This time though, my foot didn't land where I thought it should have. The seats were elevated 6 to 8 inches off of the aisle. My foot kept going. The bus was still turning and I was off balance. My body flew into the seats on the other side of the bus. My rib cage caught the bottom edge (seat) of the opposing seats. My knees then hit the floor. I heard a pop or crack. It hurt and I was scared.
My husband said that I screamed, and the other passengers had to yell at the driver to stop the bus. He was oblivious. At some point, someone, maybe the bus driver asked if I needed an ambulance. I had to think for a moment. That was difficult being very shaken. I knew that I was hurting, but didn't know if it was going to hurt for 10 minutes or 3 months. My first thought was for the other people on the bus. It was already late and they were missing theme park time. Maybe I could go without the ambulance. Then I thought about what it would take for me to get to the hospital, and that I really needed to go. The pain was getting worse. I was crying uncontrollably. I think I was in shock.
A very nice lady from Atlanta was on the bus and identified herself as a medical professional. She asked me several questions, I think to keep me calm, and to access whether or not I was at myself. I believe that I answered the questions correctly, and quite professionally...for a woman that was crying and in a lot of pain. The paramedics arrived in a very short period of time. The bus driver did not seem very concerned.
I sat on the bus thinking about being a very fat woman, crying on the back of the bus, and keeping people from the MK. I absolutely detest living up to the fat stereotype, and felt like I was doing just that. I don't know what DH was thinking, but became quite concerned when I asked for the ambulance. DH knows that I don't ask for or accept ambulances.
More to come...
