20th Anniversary Baja Cruise and Disneyland Visit - October 2017

We've decided to finally do a Disney Cruise next year and will probably go from Port Canaveral. We've been so many times to WDW and DL and have wanted to make the leap to a cruise but could never pull the trigger. I am on-the-go type of person and love to always be doing something so that has always concerned me. I'm thinking a 3 day cruise to start with. What other cruises have you said you've done? Any advice for a first timer?

We've decided to finally do a Disney Cruise next year and will probably go from Port Canaveral. We've been so many times to WDW and DL and have wanted to make the leap to a cruise but could never pull the trigger. I am on-the-go type of person and love to always be doing something so that has always concerned me. I'm thinking a 3 day cruise to start with. What other cruises have you said you've done? Any advice for a first timer?

As an on the go type of person, I don't think you'll have any problems on a cruise ship. There are lots of activities to keep you occupied. On this trip, even without kids, I was surprised how little downtime we actually had. A 3 day (4 night) cruise might be a nice way to start.

We did a four night cruise on the Disney Wonder in 2010 out of Port Canaveral with a stops at Nassau and Castaway Cay. In 2012 we did a 5 night cruise on the Disney Dream with a stop at Castaway Cay, a stop at Nassau, and then Castaway Cay again on the way back. In June 2017, we did a 7 night cruise on the Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas with stops in Nassau, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten. And then of course, this one.

I think advice for a first timer would maybe depend on your itinerary and the size of your group and age of kids. Based on this cruise experience, I'd try and book a room in the center or front of the ship. We've never stayed in a room without a veranda before. They cost a bit more, but I we've always been grateful for the opportunity to enjoy the sights from our room.

Prices seem to be the cheapest when the dates are first announced, and if you can book within a couple days of when the itinerary is released, you can save some pretty big bucks.

On your arrival day, the rooms won't be ready until the afternoon. If you have kids who want to swim as soon as you get on the ship, make sure to bring their swimsuits in a backpack.

Make sure you download the cruise ship app, if you have family members and you don't plan on paying for internet service... They have a chat application that you can use for free.

Find the Facebook group for your particular cruise. Lots of people ask questions and even if you just following along, you'll learn all sorts of things.

If you are social and enjoy crafty things and treats, join a fish extender group. It's like hanging Christmas stockings for each member of your family outside your stateroom door. You trades dates/times with everyone in your group. Each day you'll receive some goodies from a family in the group, and then one of the days you distribute goodies to the other families. It's usually candy, small tchotchkes, small crafts, etc. It can be fun if you are into those sorts of things.

The Facebook group might have other meet and greet events planned too.

If you are remotely interested in the pirate party, go ahead and bring costumes. You'd be surprised at how many people dress up.

Plan on doing Palo or Remy's (depending on your ship.) I costs a little extra, but it's totally worth it.

Make sure you look through the navigator each day, there are all sorts of activities that you might find interesting.

Port days and excursions are super subjective. It's hard to have advice for those, because they are so generalized. We've been to Nassau three times now. Once was enough for us, but we didn't go to the beach or swim with dolphins or anything like that. The second time we stayed on the ship and enjoyed it being less crowded. This past June, we walked to the John Watling's Distillery for a rum tour/tasting. I'd totally do that again!!!

Castaway Cay is awesome. You'll love it.

The fireworks at sea are worth staying up for.

We've enjoyed seeing the movies in the theaters on ship more than I would have ever expected.

I'm sure that I could keep rambling on... not sure how helpful any of that is. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask away :-) :hippie:

Day 4 - Tuesday 10/3 - Afternoon in Cabo San Lucas

The Roger's tour guys dropped us off a little after 11:30 AM. We were sort of in the back corner of the marina, and it turns out that they had an indoor shopping mall right there. It had a nice courtyard, so we grabbed a couple photos.

We decided to go inside and explore a little bit. The idea of getting into some air conditioning for a little while sounded pretty good at this point. And we did have a minor mission to find some small trinkets/treats for the kids...

The shopping mall was sort of weird. The mall infrastructure itself was super nice. Beautiful and modern architecture, nice open space, premium building/finishing materials, etc. But many of the actual stores weren't very nice. Not that they were bad or run down, they just didn't have the same premium feel.

They had a lot of clothing shops and traditional stores that you'd find in shopping malls at home, but we mostly passed by those and browsed through some of the tourist traps…

I have no idea what kind of candy bar this is, but I told myself that I was coming back for one. (And then I forgot about it. Doh!)

This was one of the nicer looking shops in the mall…

And at times, it sort of felt like I was shopping in the Mexico pavilion in Epcot!

We probably spent 30 minutes or so in the mall, and then decided it was time for lunch.

Lunch…

We had spent some time looking through Yelp and Trip Advisor before the trip. We found this place called Tacos Guss that had seriously amazing reviews, and a ton of them. We looked at other options, but this one really stood out. So before the trip, I wrote down the address and noted its general location so that we could find it.

It was slightly off the beaten path, but not too far away from the marina area. And just like earlier in the morning, it seems like nearly every shop/restaurant that we passed had someone pestering us to come inside. Eventually, we came up to this guy who had a Tacos Guss menu and was, like hey, are you looking for lunch? He kept pointing to menu and saying Tacos Guss. I think we've found our place…. He had us walk down the corner with him, and he escorted us inside the restaurant.

It was half a block down off the main road. "Hmm.. That's weird, I thought Tacos Guss was on the main road?" And then, hmm, "This place looks like the photos on Yelp, but not exactly. Weird. But, they have the right name, logo, the menu looks basically the same. I guess this is it. Maybe the photos are old? And I guess it's too late now, we're sitting down and have menus in our hands. Let's just go with it…"

We weren't sure what to order. Everything sounded good. He suggested that we try a large combo plate. I realized after the fact, that this was like twice as expensive as what it would have been if we had just ordered a la cart. But no worries, it was only like $30. Not bad, all things considered. So yeah, it's sort of like fajitas or a "make your own tacos" platter. It came with four meats. We chose shrimp, fish, skirt steak, and pastor (the pork being roasted in that first photo of the restaurant above.)

They brought us out some chips, salsas, and a plate of "fixings".

I guess I don’t have a photo, but there were four different salsas. They were all good, but not amazing.

We also ordered bottles of Mexican coke. Refreshing!!!

It took about 15 minutes for our food to come out. They had a TV above us with some sort of Mexican variety show. We had fun watching along, even if we didn't understand. (Neither of us took Spanish in school.) The people were all friendly, but a bit distant and "stand off-ish". Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

When the food came out, it was clear that we over ordered. LOL. That was about twice as much as we really needed.

How was it? It was good. But not amazing. If I was to rate it on Yelp, probably would have expected it to be more around 3.5, certainly not in the 4.5 to 5 star range. The shrimp was excellent. The fish seemed a little off to me. The pastor was super dry. The steak was fine. Not much else to say about it. Hahaha.

The total came out to be $32. For the price and the amount of food, I wasn't disappointed. Just not blown away like I had expected.

So as we were leaving, the guy who caught us and escorted us inside was back at his corner. He then explained, that this was Tacos Guss #2. Apparently the son had a falling out with the parents and made his own version of the restaurant. (who knows the real story) He went on trying to explain that this was the better one and all that. So essentially what happened, is that this guy stands on the corner trying to divert ignorant people like us from the original restaurant over to the copycat restaurant.

And then he had the nerve to ask us for a tip. You just willingly deceived us, and you want a tip? Great job. Yeah, whatever... Here's a couple bucks to get you to off our backs. :rotfl2:

We headed down the road going in the same direction as when we arrived, and a few doors down was the real Tacos Guss. It smelled amazingly good. Lots of people. Good energy. The real deal.

Aw man!!!!

I started to get bummed out. Stephanie thought it was pretty funny. You always hear stories of people getting taken advantage of in Mexico. If getting a "decent meal for a good price at the wrong place" is the worst that happened to us, then we came out pretty good!!! She's right. At least we didn't get bad liquor, robbed, sick, or worse. (Apparently there was a shooting in Cabo a couple weeks before we arrived, and a couple people were killed.) So yeah, Stephanie had the better perspective. I think I was more bummed out that I saw enough signals in the beginning to suspect that we were victims of a bait and switch, but didn't feel confident enough to push back on the guy after we sat down. Oh well, such is life. LOL. :hippie:

After lunch, we decided that we were pretty much done window shopping and being pestered by people, so we decided to head back to the ship. With plans to stop at one shop that we browsed through in the morning to pick up some souvenirs for the kids.

And eventually we made it back to the dock…

Here's an area that sets Disney apart… They had a cooling off station waiting for us.

Inside that big white cooler (in the photo above), they had small towels soaked in ice water.

I can't even begin to tell you how good it felt to wipe off my face (and my bald head) with that cold towel. And they had cups of ice water ready for you too. What a simple, but effective luxury!!!

And then we hopped back on the next tender boat.

And made our way back to the ship.

All in all, it was a wonderful day in Cabo San Lucas. Our tour boat excursion was seriously off the charts amazing. And despite being deceived/suckered for lunch, we had a fun adventure in town too. I enjoyed Cabo more than I thought I would, and I would love to come back for another visit some day!

Day 4 - Tuesday 10/3 - Back on the Ship!

It was a little after 2pm when we got back to the ship. We decided to drop off our stuff in the room and then go relax in the adult pool and hot tubs.

They had alcoholic dole whips at the pool bar… I had been craving one of these since we saw them on the first day. You could get one with regular rum, or one with spiced rum. I went with the spiced rum.

I was pretty disappointed by it. It sort of tasted like a dole whip, but the consistency was all wrong. More frothy/grainy/icy than smooth and creamy. And the alcohol was just at the bottom, you had to stir it in by yourself, which didn't help the consistency much. But it was still enjoyable!

We went back and forth between the hot tub and floating around in the pool area. So nice!!!

Eventually, we headed back to the room to get cleaned up for our 5:45 PM dinner seating.

And oh yeah, today was Halloween on the High Seas. A little bit before dinner time, we decided to head down to the lobby to watch some of the afternoon Halloween party.

It was fun seeing so many people dressed up. And just like the pirate party, a lot of the adults really got into to. How fun!!!

They were having costume contests when we arrived.

And then Mickey and friends came out to party with everyone. Lots of dancing and goofing around!

And after their performances, the characters came out for meet and greets in the crowd.

I've been saying how the ship hasn't been too crowded. I think this party and the late night Pirate party (fireworks) were the exceptions. It was super crowded here, and we were glad to be up a couple levels!!!

After the party, we still had 30 or 40 minutes before dinner, so we walked around the ship and enjoyed the views of Cabo a bit morel…

And eventually we made it to Triton's!

Dude!!!! We lucked out. Our table was on the back wall right alongside the amazing tile murals!!!

We didn't plan on dressing up for Halloween, but we did get into the spirit a little bit with some Star Wars shirts. And Stephanie tried to put Princess Leia buns in her hair. I think they turned out pretty well considering that she doesn't have long hair...

And the menu…

A few minutes later, the other two couples arrived. We had fun catching up and sharing stories from our excursions through the day. They both did one of the tours that included a short boat tour and then beach time (and lunch) at one of the local resorts. I think they enjoyed their excursions quite a bit, but I don’t think they were blown away like we were with Roger's Tour Boats.

Here's a 360 degree photo for you to click on…

Starting off, for the bread selection, they brought out Warm French Country Bread with an Olive Spread.

It was good, but like normal… I tried not to fill up on bread.

I ordered the drink of the day, "Spooky Juice". It was rum and St. Germaine based… with blue curacao. It was supposed to have lychees and cherries for eyes.

Here's an official promotional photo.

Here's what I received. LOL.

No spooky eyes and the colors were off, but it was still tasty and quite enjoyable!

For the appetizer, Stephanie and I both had the Chilled Jumbo Shrimp with White and Green Asparagus, Micro Greens and Lemon-Dill Dressing with Horseradish Cream. Very tasty!!!!

And then I had the “Chef Louis” French Onion Soup with Gruyère Cheese Crouton.

I'd give it a solid B, maybe B-. Enjoyable, but to be honest, I'd probably prefer the onion soup from Panera.

Stephanie had the Red Wine Bosc Pear Salad (Arugula, Sliced Red Onions and Crispy Lardons dressed with a Sherry Wine Dressing and served with a Red Wine Poached Bosc Pear.) She thought it was amazing. Another lady at the table had it too, and they both went on and on about it.

For the main course, I narrowed it down to the stuffed pasta and the chateaubriand steak. I couldn't make up my mind, so I ordered one of each. And Stephanie went with the steak.

Here's the Wild Mushroom-Stuffed Pasta in a Vegetable Broth (topped with Watercress, Shaved Parmesan Cheese, and Paprika Oil Drizzle.) I have to say... although it looked lovely, I wasn't very impressed by it at all. (And I normally LOVE mushrooms.) I ate a few bites and then focused on the other plate. I was pretty happy to have a plan B ready to go.

And here's the Chateaubriand-Roasted Filet Steak (Roasted Filet Steak, Crushed New Potatoes with Shallots, Buttered Green Beans, Red Wine Jus, and a Béarnaise Sauce on the Side.)

This was pretty good. I'd maybe give it a B+ (the mushroom pasta was maybe a C-)

Next up was desert…

I wasn't really excited about anything on the dessert menu, so I used this as a good opportunity to order a Mickey Bar from the kids menu!!!

Mickey Bars get an A+ all day long!!

Stephanie went with the signature dessert, Classic Opera Gateau (layers of Jaconde Sponge, soaked in Coffee Syrup, Chocolate Ganache and rich Buttercream.) She was just walking by, and I asked her how she liked it. She gave me an enthusiastic, "it was really good!!!"

All in all, Triton's was fine for me. Probably my least favorite dinner of the cruise, but possibly the best location! (Obviously, with so many options on the menu, I'm sure that for someone else, this could have easily been their favorite dinner on the cruise.)

After dinner, we immediately headed back to the atrium for the pumpkin tree lighting ceremony. And old lady (well, probably a young lady dressed up as an old lady) told a "scary" story and the light up the pumpkins on the tree. It was fun. Some of the kids were really getting into it!

We headed up to the room for a few minutes after the ceremony. And how cool! A frog was on our bed!!!

On our last two Disney cruises, we really enjoyed seeing a couple movies… So we had to see at least one on this ship. Believe it or not, neither of us had seen the live action Beauty and the Beast movie yet. It wasn't our first choice, but other movies like Cars 3 and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 didn't have as convenient of times. So Beauty and the Beast it was!

The movie started at 8:15 PM and we showed up about 10 minutes early. The theater was completely empty for at least another 5 minutes. And even after the movie started, I'd say there were only about 10 of us total.

Since we were completely alone, I goofed off with my camera for a couple minutes.

First a shot of us with the selfie stick. Click on the photo to get the interactive 360 experience. It's pretty cool!

And since the camera has wifi, I then went and put it on the stage… and took a photo of us from a distance… Wow, I still can't believe we have this entire theater to ourselves!

And then a few minutes later, a couple people showed up and the movie started.

I have to say, that I enjoyed it a lot more than I had expected that I would. Stephanie was getting pretty sleepy towards the end and somewhere around 10:15 PM or so, she decided to head back to the room. I stayed the last 15 minutes or so and then came up…

To find that our room was really noisy!!!!

Especially the door. It was rattling and rattling. The bed was shaking like one of those coin operated beds from the 70's (I'm thinking of the original Chevy Chase Vacation movie here… but not quite that bad.) And the ceiling was squeaking all over the place.

It turns out that the ship had issues leaving Cabo, and we got a late start. About 2 hours late. So, they had to run the ship at full steam to make up the time through the night. Apparently, this is what caused the shaking/vibrations to go all the way up to 11.

Stephanie was trying to go to sleep, but the front door was just too darn loud. I tried messing with it for a while, but could never get it to stop rattling.

After a half hour of trying to ignore it, I went down to guest services to ask if this is supposed to be tolerable or not.

They were nice and professional, but not very friendly or empathetic. It just didn't have that Disney charm in the interactions. (And I wasn't upset or angry in my interactions. I kept my cool the whole time.) In hindsight, I'm guessing they knew exactly what was going on and felt bad about it, and tried not to engage… maybe to ease their conscious.

It was that loud.

(After the cruise was over, from the Facebook group, I discovered that other people had complained… and some were even given other rooms. Since it was after 11pm when I came down, I don’t think they had any options for us.)

They said that they'd send a "carpenter" up to check on the room. And that was that. No, "I'm sorry this happened to you", or "I understand your frustration", or anything. I was like, "Do you need anything else from me? Is he coming up now?" And they were like, "We called. He'll be up in a little while." Well... All righty then.

I headed back to the room and the carpenter showed up about 40 minutes later. If you've ever seen the Karate Kid, he was like Mr. Miyagi. A nice guy, but a man of few words. Very short and to the point. Again, he didn't have the Disney charm either. But who cares if he can fix the door!!!

After 10 or 15 minutes of fiddling with it, he could't get it to stop. So his solution was to load up the door jamb with a gazillion layers of tape to act as a cushion. It looked pretty shoddy, but it did the trick!!!! The door stopped rattling. I mentioned the other squeaks to him, but he wasn't interested and pretty much moved on.

Here's the taped up door jamb. It stayed like this for the rest of the cruise.

The worse part of the noise was dealt with, but the squeaking ceiling was still annoying. I realized that if I pushed up on the ceiling, that it would stop. And that I might be able to wedge some paper between the crown molding and the ceiling to stop it…

And then I noticed a bunch of wooden wedges all around the room.

The were randomly spaced along the ceiling joints every several feet. I realized that this was the more permanent version of my paper wedge idea. And that I would be fighting a loosing battle, because they've obviously tried this before and it didn't work… Argh!!!

I gave up and did my best to just go to sleep. Not cool, Robert Frost!

Sorry about the creepy room, its awful when that happens. I throw some earplugs in my suitcase just in case we get a creaky room.

Ohhhhh, that olive spread is my favorite, I could eat it with spoon!

You Cabo excursion looks great, I will definitely look into this one for our visit to Cabo in 2019.

Sorry about the Tacos Gus / Tacos Gus Plus situation - but does seem like something you can look back on a chuckle a bit and, like you said, certainly not the worst thing that could have happened!

I am going to have to take notes on what food options you seem to be liking so I can remember them for our trip - your meal at Triton's seems pretty good - but a bit dependent on which things you pick

Though those two drink images looks like one of those "what it looks like on Pintrist, what it looks like when I do it" things ;)

Sorry to hear about the issues with you room - that really doesn't seem acceptable and, perhaps worst of all, the fact the staff didn't seem all that sympathetic to your situation ... that really seems like you should have gotten some compensation for dealing with that!

You may not have gone to the original restaurant but you didn't get Montezuma's revenge and you got a funny story!

Glad that you are finding food photos helpful. Stay tuned for the next post (probably tomorrow) because I'll have a gazillion photos from our Palo brunch. It was out of this world amazing!

We actually did get a small amount of compensation. $100 ship board credit. To be honest, I felt a little insulted/disappointing about it, but on the other hand... that credit totally paid for Palo and a couple drinks! I'll share more details in one of the upcoming posts.

You may not have gone to the original restaurant but you didn't get Montezuma's revenge and you got a funny story!

Yes, super stoked that Montezuma didn't take his revenge on us!

Great trip report. I'm really enjoying it. So sorry about the noisy room though.

Thanks!!!

Day 5 - Wednesday 10/4 - Palo Brunch

So we are on the home stretch, heading back to San Diego with a at day at sea. The general plan for the day was Palo brunch at 11am, dinner at Animators Pallet at 5:45 PM, and the Frozen stage show around 8pm. Other than that, we'd play it by ear.

Here's the Navigator for the day:

So yeah, the room was shaky and creaky all night long. Stephanie woke up around 4am and it was so bad, that she was never able to get back to sleep… So I think she played games on her phone until I started to stir, around 6:30 AM.

We lounged around for most of the morning, until it was time for our Palo reservation at 11am.

We had dinner at Palo on our last cruise on the Disney Dream, and it was AMAZING. We decided to try something new and do the brunch on this trip… and getting straight to the point, it was equally amazing! (I liked our server better on the Dream, but I enjoyed the meal more on this trip.)

Brace yourselves.... this next section is going to be picture heavy!

OK, how about a selfie?

We were seated almost in the middle of the restaurant. Nice!

So the deal with Palo Brunch, is that they have a fairly extensive buffet of cold & room temperature items, and then a menu with more traditional entrees from the kitchen.

I've heard people having different strategies, getting lots of things of the menu as well as the buffet. My game plan was to go in relative moderation. A couple trips through the buffet and just one entrée. (I was tempted to go with a couple entrées, but we'd been eating so well all week, I didn't want to overdo it.)

So yeah, the waiter took us up for a tour of the buffet area, explaining what different things were and whatnot.

Here's a bunch of photos. I'll let the pictures to the talking for a little while…

Yeah, that was a lot of photos! A few minutes later, the waiter escorted us back to the table. Asked what we wanted to drink, and offered us either a complimentary mimosa or a glass of prosecco. We both went with the prosecco. (Which is like an Italian version of champagne.)

Day 5 - Wednesday 10/4 - Palo Brunch (Continued)

Here was my round 1 plate:

Crab legs (of course), shrimp, scallops, mushrooms, and some octopus salad. Everything was amazing, but I didn't care for the octopus salad as much…

Stephanie's round 1 plate:

Hers was very similar to mine, but she got some of the tuna and salmon.

Here's my round 2 plate:

More crab legs. So good! Some different breads, salamis, olives, cheeses, etc. All delicious!

I guess I lost track of Stephanie's plates. She may have just had the one plate, the entrée, and desert.

And, I must be missing some more of my own plates too, because I remember trying the tunas as well as a few other items…

But eventually, I made it to the pastry table!

Good stuff! Nutella puff sticks in the middle. Nutella and chocolate chip muffin. Chocolate chip brioche twist. Hazelnut and strawberry puff. And a cinnamon roll! The nutella chocolate chip muffin was actually the best thing on that plate!

Let's take a break from the food and admire the flowers…

Um… sure, whatever… Here come more food pics…

For the entrees, we both went with the Chicken Parmesan. We heard that most of the entrees were delicious, but that a lot of people loved this one the most. So we gave it a try.

To be honest, it wasn't all that impressive to look at… but it tasted like heaven on earth. So good!!!! The recommendations were spot on.

Desert time!

While I was up scoping out the food, taking photos with my camera… the waiter brought out some chocolate cake for us. (I think they just bring this out to everyone without asking.) I thought it was good, but Stephanie thought it was amazing. So, I let her eat most of it, while I pigged out on the other stuff!

I think I pretty much had one of each desert. And two of a couple. And possibly three of another. And a cup of coffee to wash it all down!

Not sure which of these were mine and which were Stephanie's but here are the close ups!

Believe it or not, this was one of my favorites. Champagne jello and fruit. So refreshing!!!

I may have eaten three or four of those puffy things on the bottom left of this photo. (It reminded me of the gray stuff, it was delicious!)

So yeah photo overload here. Sorry!

All in all, the meal was amazing. We probably took about an hour and 45 minutes from start to finish. Our server was super attentive and very nice. Maybe not the most appealing/attractive personality, but still an awesome guy. The energy in the restaurant was great. All the other guests seemed to be enjoying themselves every bit as much as we were…. And then of course, the food was amazing. Crazy good. 100% worth it. I think I'd recommend brunch over dinner after this experience!

Sounds like a great meal!

For some reason I got a kick out of each and every little sign that indicates what each item is had "Palo" on in - so you could definitely not forget where you are eating!

Every looks really good but the dessert buffet blew me away with how many options they have!

Our plan is to try to do Palo Dinner for my birthday - but seems like you can't go wrong with either option

I just read your Aulani trip report yesterday (we are headed there next month) and we have booked this cruise for March 2019 and I stumbled on this report today! After two days, I feel like we are old friends!

Your reports are fantastic. I loved your Cabo pictures. We will definitely do a sail/snorkle adventure there. Thanks and keep it coming!

Wow that food looked AMAZING! I have always heard that the food is one of the best parts of a cruise! I love that they cut the crab legs in half so it is easier to get the meat out. I LOVE crab but HATE having to get the meat out and always end up leaving half of it. Everything looked so yummy but I don't think I could have eaten even half of that LOL. That's the only downside. ;)

Hi everyone! Sorry for the long delay since my last update. We've been super busy the last couple weeks, and I've had a few other projects competing for my time...

Wow - that food looks amazing, especially the deserts!!!

Yeah, those deserts were incredible!

I think you can't go wrong with dinner or brunch. If you can somehow swing it… I'd suggest you try and do both. Just not on the same day!!! LOL.

Yum! Palo brunch is heaven.........

Those sticky buns and the chicken parm.

Amen to that!

How cool! I'm glad you've enjoyed both TR's… and that you feel like friends. Isn't it great how Disboards brings like-minded people together. How fun!! And I hope you have a blat at Aulani. I have to admit I'm a bit envious of you right now!!!!!!

I hear you on the crab legs. The only negative, was that they didn't have melted butter to dip the crab meat in. But they were super tasty as-is… and to be honest… I think it was a worthy trade to swap out the butter fat/calories for the ones on the dessert table. Hahaha!

Thank you for sharing. Gave us something to look forward to on our 5 night Baja. but a long wait until 2019.
Happy Anniversary:flower3:

Thanks! And I bet 2019 will be here before you know it!!!!

Day 5 - Wednesday, 10/4 - Our Last Afternoon/Evening on the Ship

We were totally stuffed from brunch at Palo. Major food comas combined with a poor night sleep made our decision for what to do next pretty easy… Let's go relax in the room for a while and maybe have a nap!!!

We relaxed on the veranda for a while, and then spent an hour or two snoozing and watching TV. Later in the afternoon, we were feeling rested and decided to get a head start on packing our bags. They had to be out in the hallway later in the evening (for them to pick up - since we didn't feel like carrying them off the ship ourselves) and we didn't want to be bothered with the task after dinner.

And speaking of dinner, let's move on to our last dinner on the ship… Animators Palate. The theming idea is that it's a black and white canvas, that comes to life with color as you progress through dinner.

The effects were a bit different than they were the last time we cruised with Disney, but still fun. Lots of TV's made to look like canvases all over the walls. The animations would slowly come to life through the dinner. Cool!

The menu had one of those lenticular images on it, that made Mickey move around depending on which angle you viewed it at…

Love the dishes!

The bread service was Garlic and Herb Focaccia with a Roasted Garlic Dip.

It was tasty!

And check out the hidden Mickey's…

The table centerpiece was fun too!

We decided to have a couple drinks…

I had the drink of the day… It was called the "Two Seasons". I don't recall what the ingredients were, but it was pretty tasty!

And Stephanie had some other drink… I honestly can't remember what this one was either, but I do recall that she enjoyed it!

For the appetizer, I had the Black Truffle Pasta Purseittes (Pasta Purses filled with Truffle-scented Cheese and coated with a delicate Champagne Sauce) They were fantastic!

And for the soup, I had the Baked Potato and Cheddar Cheese Soup (with Bacon Bits and Chives) It was fine. Nothing to write home about.

Funny, I don't remember what Stephanie had for her appetizer and soup/salad options… and for some reason, I don't have photos of them either. She may have still been so full from brunch that she passed on them…

For the entrée, I couldn't make up my mind… so I ordered two of them. The Ginger-Teriyaki dusted Angus Beef Tenderloin (served on Wasabi Mashed Potatoes with Bok Choy and a Tamarind Barbecue Sauce) and the Grilled Tuna Steak (with Fingerling Confit, Caponata, Sun-dried Tomato Pesto, and Aioli).

The steak sounded amazing, but it was just good. Maybe solid B rating. The sauce was just a little off for me to give it an A for flavor.

The tuna on the other hand was a solid A. The potatoes and caponata veggies were super tasty too. I was stoked on this entree. Yum!!!

And throughout the dinner, the animations kept going on the screens. How fun!

Eventually the servers came out for a "party" and Mickey came out too. It sort of reminded me of Chef Mickey's at WDW where everyone waves their towels around.

And time for deserts!

Stephanie went with the Deconstructed Carrot Cake (a classic Carrot Cake with a twist). She loved it.

I couldn't make up my mind, so I went with two selections again. Haha!

I had the Crunchy Walnut Cake (with Dark Chocolate Mousse and Raspberry Coulis) OK. Dude. This was awesome!

And I was in the mood for some ice cream too. Cookies 'n Cream Sundae (Cookies & Cream Ice Cream with Chocolate Sauce and Chocolate Chip Cookies.) Yeah, it was just like it sounds. Awesome!

All in all, the dinner was lovely and by this point, we had gotten to know our table mates reasonably well. We were lucky to have been paired up with two very nice and fun loving couples!

We planned to see the Frozen show at 8:30 PM, so we headed back to the room for a minute to freshen up a bit…

This time, we had a bunny waiting for us. Isn't our stateroom attendant awesome?!?!?

And what a view looking out into the Pacific, as the sun was starting to set… beautiful! (Initially, we planned to save a few bucks and get an inside stateroom, but in hindsight, I'm totally happy that we went with a veranda room. It's so nice to step our of your room every now and then and just soak itall in!)

I'm normally not very interested in live musicals and plays, but the Frozen show was fantastic! The production quality of the props and effects were outstanding and the performances were all great too. I highly recommend this show!

Photos weren't allowed during the performance, but here's a 360 degree snapshot for you to click on from before it started…

After the show, we took it pretty easy for a while and eventually made our way down to the "'Til we Meet Again" party in the atrium.

It was fun to see all the characters come out for their goodbyes.... We didn't stay for the whole thing, but we were glad to have at least stayed for a little while. It was starting to get late, so we decided to head back to our room and relax a bit longer before calling it a night. Wow, another fun filled day on the high seas!
