She went to the doctors and was diagnosed with shingles again.. She had them at the exact same time of year last winter too..

Anyhow, her doctor said that they have diagnosed 11 patients with shingles just since last Friday!!

I wonder if the extremely cold weather tends to make the virus kick up at this time of year? :confused3

They gave her a script for Valtrex - $278 for 21 pills.. :scared: Once again her prescription plan is maxed out for the year, so she had to pay out of pocket..

That is odd. My ds got them in the winter time too. Maybe you are on to something there.

Sorry about the insurance stuff. I worry about that kind of stuff myself. It must be so hard to be sick and not want to go to the dr worrying about the money.

Hope she feels better soon. I know ds hated them, I hated them for him!

:grouphug: To your DD.

Wow, that prescription is expensive, so sorry about the insurance.

I wish her a speedy recovery.

Hope she gets better soon. My mom has shingles right now. She has had them for months now. They just don't want to go away.

I'm just getting over them. Fortunately, mine was a mild case. By the time I figured it out and went to the doctor it was already scabbing over and it was too late for meds. Obviously I didn't need them if I made it to that point, so I'm glad.

The Doctor told me when it's totally cleared up I need to come in for a Shingles vaccination. Hopefully that will keep me from getting it again and avoid a bad case. Has your dd tried the vaccine?

I'm getting over them now too! Today is my last day of the anti-virals. From what I've heard, I had a mild case as well.

Hope your DD is feeling better soon.

That's really weird becuase I had shingles at exactly this same time last year. The Dr. was puzzled because of my age and kept asking me if I was under stress. I wasn't, so I have no idea what caused it. Mine was a relatively mild case - even so, that was bad enough.

After I was diagnosed last year I was doing some research on shingles (which I do NOT recommend to anyone who has it :crazy2: :scared1: ) and one article said that shingles is more common now since the varicella vaccination has been introduced. This is due to the fact the the exposure to chicken pox gives a boost to the immune system in someone who has already had it, lessening the chance for shingles. Now that children rarely get chicken pox anymore, adults aren't getting exposed to the virus. I don't know how much truth there is in this, but I thought it was interesting, nevertheless.

Sending prayers and {{hugs}} for your DD C.Ann . I remember she had some health concerns last year and was undergoing lots of testing, was there any particular diagnose? Sorry to hear about her shingles and the meds are making her sick. I can imagine your concern and hope she bounces back real soon. :flower3:

It's only January....how can it be maxed for the year?

----------------------------------
Her plan runs from March to March, I believe..

Mine runs from September to September..

They don't follow the traditional January to January.. It goes according to the date you first acquired the health insurance/prescription plan..

She had the same problem last year..
