Went to my PT yesterday for the 1st of my 3-pack of tune-up visits. Focus was on lower body strengthening with an emphasis on my left knee, which has started to give me issues. As usual, this is a first-time problem, which I really think is not due to running as much as trying to do leg strengthening (squats, lunges)….or age, I guess. So he has created a lower body program for me to do.
I’ll go back next week, which will give me time to do the program 2-3x and then we can adjust, if needed. We’re also going to review the upper body set that I’ve been doing related to my neck issues.
The goal for me is to have a sound total body program that reflects my needs as a runner and an older athlete. The days (if there ever were any) for doing any random set of “recommended” workouts to build strength are over for me. I need to be pragmatic/realistic about what strength training should be for me vs what I might expect/want it to be.
