That's actually a really nice perk if you think about it. Have a reservation you have to cancel in the last few months of your UY? Just use those points to buy an AP that you'll have 12 months to redeem. Note to self: consider using direct points for reservations that occur after my banking deadline.

My UY is March, and AP is due for renewal on Jan..

As was said before even distressed and points in holding are allowed to be used!

You can buy a new AP voucher whenever you want.

But, the vouchers are only good for one year. If you don’t activate by then, then you have the cash value to put toward a new one.

Still, with a new pass purchase, you can make those points useful up to 2 years later. 1 year to activate + active pass for 1 year after activating. It's definitely a nice feature

I called to add an AP in September with points so that I could take advantage of the $75 gift card and they told me that I could not buy one since I already had an AP (that expires in January). They said you could not have 2 on your account at a time.

Well I would say that is BS.

I have two RIGHT now. One expire in May and one that haven’t been activated yet. The one that’s not active I guess is a voucher.

ETA: I didn’t get any of mine using points.
