2025 Destash Time to Heave or Leave it

This past week I cleaned out 2 cabinets and 2 drawers in our master bathroom. Still have 1 drawer and 1 cabinet to go. But already threw out almost a trash bag full of stuff that was expired or we keep trying it and don't like it but don't want to to throw it away because we paid for it so we throw it back under the sink. Time for it to go!

I also cleaned out both cabinets in my kid's bathroom last night while my daughter was taking a bath. Filled up the small bathroom trashcan with trash, 2 things going to donation and multiple things moved back to where they actually belong. Have 3 drawers and the linen closet left in their bathroom.

April
April starte doff slow but with spring break this week I was able to move things a bit more and faster! A pretty decent go at ths week, hopefully I can continue small sprurts here and there to keep things moving forward! A lot of what was decluttered this week were items that were "hidden" so no real noticable change in the day to day appearance but it did open up some storage space for things that need it!

1 inner fleece jacket - donated
126 CD’s - donated
1 partial notepad - used up
3 large plastic bags that came with some office furniture - used up for packing insulation and junk from basement!

I'm back on the decluttering wagon after a week at my aunt's house. My house just seemed so stuffed in comparison when I got home. :rotfl:

11 items tossed over 2 days, plus a large box of jigsaw puzzles hauled out to the car (to be dropped off at the library for the upcoming "book" sale.)

I also took the Easter decorations down and put them away, which helped too.

My daughter invited me to a local group that does giveaways/curb alerts/porch pickups so we gave a few things that way.

April purge stats:
🎁 gave away a dresser, 1 decorative candle & large tray
📦 36 random items donated
👚 27 pieces of clothing donated
🗑️ 6 random items tossed in the garbage
🕯️ 2 Candles & 16 packs of wax melts used up
🛀 6 bath & beauty products used/emptied
💰12 items sold online

Total this month: 108

Dropped off two big bags of clothing/shoes and a blow up bed in the Drop Off containers in the shopping center lot. I usually have VVA pick up. Did not want to look at them and wait for appointment.

Started to shred some paper work again. I keep way too much paper work and for many years. I have so many files. (Utilities, bank statements, policies, warranties, insurance, etc. etc.).

I am working in the garage today. Started at noon, stopped to catch the end of World News. And then will go back out. Out -a small piece of dry wall from the bath Reno last year. A piece of carpet from when we built this house yearssss ago.
I guess those water guns and hula hoops can go, the youngest is 24.
I combined 2 copies boxes of papers down to one. Found some wood cloths pins that I was wanting and washed them up.
Downsized plant containers. And a garbage bag more.

Cleaned a little in the yard. We had lot of limbs down. So instead of a fall fire with leaves, a spring fire.

I fed DH helper that stopped with the tractor- a dish of food that I told him I was going to throw out. As I made something else for us to eat. And I threw in a banana muffin :)

Today I am working in the basement. I am just mostly picking it up and organizing it. I did get rid of just a few items, 2 gerbil balls included.
I like that area ready for when it hits 100° I can go hang up down there.

Ok destashing experts…for some odd reason, I am having a hard time letting go of a particular Chico’s dress, got it on a great sale. Wore it 1 time (Ie the formal dinner I needed it for). It is sleeveless, which would not have been my first choice, but it was less than $40 inches shipping, My first choice was $125, and was not on sale at all in early June.

I thought the sleeveless dress would be good for a wedding later that summer, but then…preferred option got marked down to ~$50 including shipping. I much prefer the second dress (with capped sleeves). So I’m about 95% positive I will not wear the sleeveless dress EVER, as I LOVE the second dress much more.

So why am I so emotionally attached to a dress that I will not wear again? Part of me thinks it is because I never buy something for a single use. The other part of me says…if I donate it, someone else will get a great deal on a dress that then will get appreciated and used by a subsequent owner.

I guess I just need validation that I can “release” l this dress, to let someone else buy/love it.

Thanks!

Permission granted. Let someone find joy in what you don't. The money is spent. You holding onto the dress won't make you richer. You letting it go won't make you poorer.
