2022 Updates: Any Changes To Uses of Future Cruise Credits?

I’m scheduled to sail in about a month. This cruise is paid for with a FCC from a canceled 2020 sailing and we’ll have a substantial onboard credit due to the fare differences and the FCC 25% bonus.

I’m planning to use the FCC for excursions & gratuities, as well as Palo & Remy, tastings, a couple services in the spa, internet, and some souvenirs from the onboard shops/the Disney stands on CC.

I’ve been under the impression that the FCC can be used for anything that gets applied to your onboard account. Is that correct?

But the “What can the funds from my Future Cruise Credit be used for?” page on the DCL website only lists “voyage fare, pre-paid gratuities, air purchased through Disney Cruise Line, pre- or post-night hotel and resort stays booked through Disney Cruise Line, transfers, Vacation Protection Plan, Port Adventures that are pre-booked and pre-paid through Disney Cruise Line, and Taxes, Fees and Port Expenses.”

Now it doesn’t say that these are the exclusive uses, but it has me concerned I missed a policy change.

I know that DVC purchases and deposits for future DCL sailing do not get applied to onboard accounts (and I believe are charged directly to credit card). Are there any other places where we won't be able to use the FCC?

Thanks!

We had a huge FCC for our cruise in April and we were allowed to use it for anything on the ship - merchandise, food, alcohol, photos, internet, tips - so yes, anything onboard. We didn't do an excursion but I cannot imagine why it wouldn't apply to that as well.

This list above includes ways to use the Future Cruise Credit before a cruise. If you have some of the credit remaining when you board your first cruise using the credit, it will become Onboard Credit, which can be used for anything applied to your ship account, as described here (https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/faq/non-refundable-onboard-credit/receive-onboard-credit):

Prior to the start of your earliest sailing where a Future Cruise Credit has been applied, any unused Future Cruise Credit will be automatically converted into a nonrefundable Onboard Credit, which can be used to cover anything that is charged to your stateroom account, including Port Adventures, spa treatments, beverages and more.

If you received a 25% Future Cruise Credit for having moved from a sailing that was later cancelled by Disney Cruise Line due to the COVID-19 operations suspension, you will receive the remaining balance of your Future Cruise Credit when you sail on your original reservation, regardless of whether you have applied any Future Cruise Credit funds toward an additional reservation.

You are correct that Placeholders for future cruises (and actual future cruises, if the ability to book cruises onboard returns) need to be paid for separately and are not charged to your ship account. Purchases at the Disney-owned shops at Castaway Cay are charged to your account, so you can use Onboard Credit for them. Purchases at the Castaway Cay Post Office, though, need to be made in cash (US currency is accepted).
