2022 Points Charts being updated

We will have to wait see what happens with the 2022 charts as well since right now all they are doing is a small bandaid to say it was messed up. Now in 2022 we need to see if there are larger requirements. Example how is early December not more expensive?

I am looking forward to a cruise right now so I will deal with calculating the points back out this fall if others haven't already done an exhaustive job.

You mean the 2023 charts, but you are spot on.

Oct, Nov, Dec (1-23), and early January all need to be higher (significantly, in some cases).
The summer months (especially August) need to be lower.
Christmas and Easter need to be lower (while still remaining high - they just shouldn't be a high as they are now).

I guess that’s great if you can travel in the last 10 days in September, which is a pretty small slice of people. Just feels like this change is intended to benefit the least number of DVC members possible. I mean, they could lower one day a year to 1 point a night for all bungalows, benefitting 20 random DVC members, but hurting everyone else they up they raise points per night on. Just because it is allowed doesn’t make it in the best interest of DVC members.

Obviously, the popular times means more owners are traveling. Adjusting those lower means more owners have to spend fewer points but in turn it means the already difficult bookings at 11 months would be more difficult.

If September is the time of year that rooms remain longer at most resorts, then it makes sense they are the lowest points.

I think September is mostly open at Disney resorts, outside of DVC so they will want to keep DVC members there during September. October on the other hand, has brought in many with halloween specials and also food and wine is in full force then too. November and December are busy DVC for lower points and Christmas decorations.

Exactly Disney has told me (directly from someone on the team that does point reallocation) that they look at WDW as a whole when setting point charts. I didn't push them at the time but this next year I plan on pushing them on the topic.

The first weeks of December should see a bump in point costs as an example as I think most deem it the hardest time to book of the year across WDW for DVC.

In reality DVC should be balanced based on DVC not anything else.

Demand for the WDW resort as a whole is and should be irrelevant. The DVC point charts should be based solely on DVC demand. The public offering statement acknowledges this.

They should rebalance the first two weeks of December, but they won't. It's the time of the year when they've sold the most fixed weeks at resorts that offer them. If they increase the number of points they'll have to pay the extra points themselves. Unlikely it'll happen.

They've got 10% cushion, I believe. They should use it.

I agree. It doesn’t help anyone to making these changes at the extremes (super high easter, super low September). I’d rather they work on actually evening out DVC supply/demand. Makes no sense that there is a ton of summer availability with super high points and everyone is walking October/November reservations with low points.

The good news is that summer was lowered and fall raised in 2022 so they have started that shift. I expect more in 2023

Point will alway depend on what is happening in ORL. If (and it isa big if). The world cup or Olympics ever came to Central Fla, the points would be adjusted accordingly.

Yes and no. Yes, there is a 10% premium for the fixed week. No, it doesn't make a lick of difference now. That 10% is in Disney's pocket. If they raise those fixed weeks, they still have to cover those points themselves.
I mean sure, philosophically, the fixed weeker is paying for it. But the net change is money out of Disney's pocket, which is why zavandor says DVC won't do it.

I may be one of the few happy about this. We always travel the third week of September and the update to make September more costly a couple years back hurt us a bit.
We have a trip planned for next September as well and the change will save us 7 points! Not a huge savings considering we'll be booking a 2BR for a week but I'll take it.

DVC is already having some problems with fixed weeks with their recent increases. In 2014, a week at Poly Lake View for week 44 (Jersey Week) cost 153 points and the fixed week was 168 points.

I know this because we bought one.

The first higher reallocation was to 167 points, making my premium moot. Last year’s reallocation means my week now costs 181 points, meaning DVC will have to toss in 13 points each year to complete my reservation should I keep the guarantee. We never have before, but now we will start to do so.

I was waiting to see if this point fix would change this first week of Nov point cost but it did not.

1. Any further reallocation of Fall will only make our now fixed week discount higher.

2. Because we’re not first two weeks of Dec, we’re an anomaly. Only a few fixed weeks will benefit under this scenario. IF DVC seriously rebalances Dec such that it put their fixed weeks underwater, that could get expensive for them very fast.

If they did rebalance it based on the most popular times to book DVC rooms specifically, that would certainly present some interesting "vacation arbitrage" opportunities between booking resort rooms and using your points.

I guess in a way it would be another perk of being a DVC member.
