Does anyone know if Disney has a policy against large groups at the resorts right now? Well I mean besides the NBA ;)
The school is saying Disney cancelled their reservation, forcing the school to make a decision to stay off sight, which the school administration wouldn't do.

There was also wording in the letter to parents regarding the waiver that Disney wanted parents to sign. Is the below the standard waiver or is this something else?
My daughter is 18, so...

“You are agreeing to let your minor child engage in a potentially dangerous activity...There is a chance your child may be seriously injured or killed by participating in this activity because there are certain dangers inherent in the activity that cannot be avoided or eliminated.”

That sounds like "School District" legal disclaimer wording for field trips vs how Disney has described the situation:

We have taken enhanced health and safety measures—for you, our other Guests, and Cast Members. You must follow all posted instructions while visiting Walt Disney World Resort.
An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and Guests with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.
By visiting Walt Disney World Resort you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.
Help keep each other healthy.

I get that. Not sure if groups are any different. They said Disney wouldn't allow school groups until June 2021 after school was done.

Idk but Disney and Marriott are hosting the National Beta Convention in June which will certainly be a large group.

I have been told there is still a possibility the convention may go virtual and that decision will be made 60 days in advance, but it looks like a lot of work has already gone into making it happen on-site so I’m on the fence on this one.

Is the trip an official Disney trip or an official school sponsored trip? Can parents just get together and make the trip happen on their own? Seems like Disney wouldn’t really have a hand in the matter then.

That sounds bogus based on this great post on another thread here on DIS from @WEDWDW

Here is the Spring Schedule for WDW Cheer/Dance Events.

I surveying surrounding schools, it seems their trips got cancelled as well. One school is packing up and going to Universal. Not sure if Universal is allowing this onsite or not. A lot of the parents seem to be peeved and still want this to go forward, but the school doesn't want to be responsible, so they are just bailing.

Yes! I was going to also add that I know of at least two cheer gyms going to Disney soon as well. So they must not care about big groups.

If the OP is talking about a typical senior class trip, the wording on the supposed permission slip seems a bit extreme.

What is the time frame for your cancelled trip? It may simply be that Disney does not have the resort capacity until then due to the pre-scheduled events already on the books for April - May.

Note: not all value and moderate resorts have reopened.

My friend runs the senior Disney trip in a local school district. She said that Disney cancelled their trip too. They are going to Universal as their base and will bus to Disney for day visits.

Those sports events are not like these school trips. These school trips are a bunch of kids whose reason to be at Disney is to party it up together in the parks. I can see why WDW doesn’t wanna touch that with a 10ft pole. However absolute shame on them waiting this long to cancel!!

I’d believe the waiver, surprised it’s not normal for every Disney school event- but I’m from CA where my parents had to sign waivers like that all the time for all trips 😂 Going to the zoo? Senior center? Museum? Have your parents sign this that if you get mutilated or die it’s not our fault or no trip for you.

I assume they make every parent sign to be extra careful, don’t want a lying 17yo slipping through.

I’m sorry to hear of another round of disappointed Seniors like 2020 brought. That’s just such an important time in life 😔 I hope they’re all able to Universal instead!

Now if you’ll pardon me I’m gonna go off and ponder how screwed up life is when others in the country are getting school trips to Disney World cancelled and my state of CA is still not even allowing jr high or high schoolers in person learning 😢

I agree with @Dave006. There are many school groups who do "senior" trips at the end of the school year, so all in a short period of time. With the closed resorts -- some of which are usually the group accommodations -- there may not have been enough rooms for ALL the school groups so they decided not to pick and choose which group could be accommodated. And while cheer squads are still planning to go, I think that's a different sort of trip with specific schedules for practices and competition and often fairly limited free time in the parks.

OP - sorry your daughter's senior trip, and whole senior year, is impacted. :(

Sorry that CA is so locked down. It stinks.
We are hardly back to normal in NJ.
It is crazy how different states react differently and even different districts in the same state.
As far as my children's high school, they started the year with 4 cohort's with 1 day in school each and the full schedule went to half days. My daughter would say that there were some classes where it was just her and the teacher in the class.
Now they are up to 2 days per week and still half days every day. So they are trying to cram a full curriculum in less time and remote.
My DD who is a senior this year lost her junior prom last year, and now this year, lost everything. It is very rough.

Hmm. The seniors at our school took their annual trip the first full week in January. They typically stay at Fort Wilderness in the cabins. Maybe they stayed elsewhere this year? Maybe offsite ...not sure about that part? I did see the picture of them, though.

My friends son is a senior. His school also said Disney wouldn’t host them or cancelled them. The schools around here usually do 4 days at Disney and 1 at universal and stay at an all stars resort. His school has switched to onsite at universal with a day at Disney.

That's the key point only 1 All-Stars Resort is even scheduled to open the All-Stars Movies on March 22. The others remain closed until further notice.

Dave

You would think they’d open one up to accommodate the groups and make some money. But the kids aren’t going to socially distance and Disney probably doesn’t want to open up that media nightmare.
