Hello everyone! I have been engaged for a month now and having that ever famous question...did you pick a date!? We knew the year...2018. We have finally narrowed down on a date of August 8th (or 9th) 2018. We are doing a Disney wedding. My question is when do I start contacting Disney about this? I have heard it is 1 year before the date. Is there anything I should be doing now with contacting Disney? TIA!

Congrats on your engagement! They will talk to you 16 months out from a Wishes wedding and 9 months (I think?) out for an Escape wedding. So for August 2018, you're looking at Feb 2017 for initial contact. The one year mark is when you get your date confirmed if you're Wishes. Definitely don't wait til the 1 year mark because if there are other couples with the same first choice, Disney needs to put you in the lottery and you'd miss it if you waited until 1 year out.

Thank you so much for this information! I am just getting together ideas in the mean time!

Get lurkyloo's book! http://www.passporter.com/disney-weddings-honeymoons.php
It is a HUGE help. My wedding is still far away, but I've read the whole book, and I love all the details and planning pages.

I totally agree with purchasing lurkyloo's book!! I'm planning a December 2017 wedding and it has been SO helpful in trying to figure out if we can afford a wedding at Disney :) Get the electronic version so you can 1) Download it anywhere 2) Re-download it when it gets updated (which it probably will by the time you're ready to actually plan the day)

I listen to her podcast pretty much every day at work (some I've listened to twice!!). Cannot rave enough about what an incredible help she is <3

Thank you! I bought The Knots Wedding Planner...think it is worth returning? I just discovered this book right before I looked at your post.

I'm not familiar with that book, but I've found that most other planning things, like timelines and checklists just don't apply to or line up with a disney wedding. If you're using it for inspiration, or putting all you ideas in one place, then it may be useful. It's up to you! But the Passporter's book and podcasts have basically everything you need to know!
