2017 Points Charts Out

There is also a minor change at BWV: B/P view two-bedroom Premier Season is going up from 470 points a week in 2016 to 477 points in 2017. This is the only change I spotted on any of the resorts, other than SSR's major change.

My guess? A typo. Wouldn't be the first time for DVC to have some mistake with the charts.

Wouldn't a corresponding move have to be made elsewhere to keep the number of points constant over the year? That's not a very big move though so perhaps the other change is only in one season.

An increase needs an offsetting decrease somehwere at BWV and I have found none. The rest of the chart is exactly the same as before. The premier season increase is a one point increase per night for 22 nights of the year in the boardwalk and pool/garden view 2BRs. There are about 108 preferred 2BRs affected so the point increase could potentially be over 2300 points.

On the surface, the single change at BWV doesn't appear to be point-neutral. I did not see any corresponding decline anywhere on the BWV point chart. There are 149 two-bedroom villas at BWV, which means this change could potentially generate (149 x 22) 3,278 points for the length of the 22 day Premier Season. That isn't a lot of points, considering that BWV has about 4,872,175 total points.

Edited to add: Forgot to take into account only Boardwalk/Preferred villas are affected by this change. See Drusba's post above.
The offset may be that they had to pull some rooms down to standard view. I know the view for some of the rooms at the very end of the hallway were disputed.

So some pertinent information from the 2015 Notices for Saratoga Springs:

Pursuant to Section 721.13(3)(c)1, Florida Statutes, the total number of 7-day annual use availability periods currently registered with the State of Florida is 45,288.

And there are 888 vacation homes in Saratoga Springs (studios and 1 bedrooms as part of a lockoff are not counted separately).

So Dividing 45288 by 52 gives 870.9231. This leaves approximately 17 vacation homes unaccounted for. This is 1.9% of the vacation homes.

So the 2016 point charts should cover those 45288 use availability use periods and give a total number of points for that usage. My understanding is that any changes from year to year have to equal that total number of points. It seems my understanding is not complete however since given Daddio's statement of what is Preferred at Saratoga, and looking at the 2017 point chart, it seems to me that the total number of points has increased.

What am I missing?

The divisor used by Florida in determining the number of timeshare weeks is 51, not 52.

As you posted, SSR has 45,288 authorized timeshare weeks. Divide that number by 51 and you get 888, which is the number of Vacation Homes at SSR (36 Grand Villas, 60 Treehouse Villas, and 792 Two-Bedrooms).

Its quite possible this introduction of the Standard/Preferred categories will result in a point-neutral reallocation of SSR's point chart. Some accommodations are going up, some are going down; the tricky thing is to find out how many vacation homes fall into each category.

Although not all the facts have been made available to the Membership, I highly doubt that this reallocation is generating any additional points for SSR. I also think its an extremely safe bet that DVD will NOT be building more inventory at SSR

2016: March 20 to April 2 = 10 weekday, 4 weekend; December 24 to December 31 = 5 weekday, 3 weekend
2017: April 9 to April 22 = 10 weekday, 4 weekend; December 24 to December 31 = 6 weekday, 2 weekend

Could the difference be in the mix of weekday and weekend at Christmas?

I would think that all the resorts should have some little difference if that were the case.

Wonder why they didn't go ahead & put a * on the chart to explain which sections will be considered preferred & which ones will be standard? Just one more teeeny weeeny leetle detail that could explain so much. Sigh. Wonder if they've made these changes based on the most often requested sections? We usually request Grandstand for easiest / best bus access so now our "preferred" section is gonna cost us more. Such a bummer. I suppose we'll suck it up and book preferred unless we're planning a trip where we're trying to pinch points then we'll take standard. :headache: Never thought I'd see booking categories at SSR….

That should not be a factor since the original spread of points and point charts released at time of initial sale are based on a non-leap year, base year specifically chosen at the time, and thereafter no changes occur simply due to having a leap year or that the number of weekdays in a season might differ a little from year to year. That is why there has to date never been any changes to the charts from year to year except when Disney has actually done point changes.

The changing of a room from preferred to standard, mentioned above, is a possibility that could result in not seeing a lowering of points on the chart to offset the rise at BWV. Or it might just be a typo as also mentioned above. I have sent an email request asking what is going on with points at BWV and if I get a response I will post it

Looking forward to hearing what the true total change to BWV was. Something went up very slightly, something had to go down. Did they move one room out of boardwalk view?

I was thinking the same think, but then DH pointed out that they don't tell you on the point charts which section of BWV is standard, or at BLT which are standard etc.

Yes, but those are views. Are the new SSR categories based on view, or location? If location, it seems like we should know which location.

Based on what we're hearing, it's building based which would mean location not view. I don't think it will take long for people to find out what's what.

Not a fan of this point reallocation for SSR. Always stayed in the Congress Park area, I guess I will try different areas in this resort. Who knows maybe I will like another area better.
Wasn't a fan of the SSR treehouse reallocation, and I am still not!

BLT is our home resort, though we just came back from 4 nights at SSR. We requested and got Congress, specifically because this was more or less a non-park trip, and we wanted to spend some time at Disney Springs. We have stayed at Congress before and liked it, though the walk to the main building does take some time. So for us, the value of Congress is probably a little more than the other areas and we can understand committing a few more points. But we have always wondered why at BWV there are only two options - Std and Preferred (Garden/Pool-Boardwalk). Maybe it's just us, but we always choose a Boardwalk view over the Garden/Pool view. And a few times I have gone in to look at availability and it seems like the Boardwalk view does fill up faster than Garden/Pool. Would anyone else consider it reasonable to make a minor change in point allocation to account for this difference? I know this isn't a perfect comparison, but at BLT there is Standard, Lake view and Theme Park view. At BWV, Standard, Garden/Pool, and Boardwalk would seem to be a similar situation.
