I was looking through the Event Guide and saw about them saying to please not check a gEAR bag.
As someone mentioned, gearbags are big plastic bags that you put a sticker on that has your bib number on it (don't put that sticker on your shirt...that's not what it's for...and yes I've seen people wearing their stickers before). You put all your stuff that you want for AFTER the race in there (like flipflops, a sweatshirt, chocolate milk, etc) in there and hand it over to the bag check volunteers, then pick it up at the end.
They are just encouraging us to not do that. So either they thing we have family and friends spectating to hold our stuff OR they think we're sooooo amazing we don't need anything at the end.
And please do not check gold or gel packs?
Things to keep things cold.
So if I wanted my chocolate milk to absolutely positively be cold at the end, well, I'm out of luck b/c I can't check a cold pack. So I just put my box 'o chocolate milk in my gearbag and deal with slightly not very cold milk at the end.
So you can bring energy gels, just not 'check' them?
It has nothing to do with energy gels. Do you have a lunch bag or a cooler bag that has a cold pack? Filled with gel that you put in the freezer? That's what they are talking about.
As for the event guide, there has always been hard copies at then expo.
At Star Wars the event guide was a slightly big pamphlet. I think they've stopped doing the lovely thick guides. Sigh. I mean, it's OK...I was a total overconsumer of them for scrapbooking purposes (and then i've never scrapbooked them b/c they are so big), and you multiply that by others like me and you have waste.
What they SHOULD have always done is mailed those things. It's hard to read online and it's really too late to get all those tips once you're there.
At least two ridiculous typos in the guide. "Disney Pincess" was towards the start, and then in the Galloway section they forgot to copy/paste Princess stuff.
"If you have another event or three, limit your walking to one hour at a time and get off your feet for an hour. For those running the half marathon and marathon, I suggest no more than three hours in the theme parks during the days before the marathon. If you are Goofy or Dopey, take it easy during the half marathon on Saturday."
Embarrassing for them.
Rundisney...still available to hire for proofreading purposes! (I've literally told them on the phone that they could and should hire me...)
